Pakistan reach 259/5 at stumps on Day 1 of the second Test against England

The lead-up to the second Test has been quite eventful, with Pakistan making every effort to ensure a different outcome than the first match. The turning nature of the pitch is expected to push the game at a rapid pace, while the scorching sun, with temperatures forecasted to remain in the high 30s Celsius, will further challenge the players.

The hosts have named three specialist spinners in their playing XI and confirmed that highly-rated batter Kamran Ghulam will replace Babar Azam in the lineup.

The tourists finalized their side after Monday's training session, with Ben Stokes returning as captain, nine weeks after suffering a hamstring injury. Matt Potts is the other change in the XI from last week's stunning victory, while Chris Woakes and Gus Atkinson have been rested.

This is a very important moment in Pakistans Test match history. No one is giving them any chance. Time to pull a cornered tigers. If they win this match I believe Pakistan will be back in form as a team.

do u think with such lineup where they dont have nay genuine fast bowler they can even test England batting lineup?

another humiliating defeat is just on the cards.
 
Pakistan have actually selected a team for conditions for once.

I call upon spirits of famous tigers, Collarwali and Machali to protect them in their time of turmoil. :tigers
 
England to bat first and the match is over as they'll rack 500 today itself. And the wicket will not turn until Day 3 or even Day 4.
 
With nothing to lose, Pakistan can play fearless cricket after a long time.

It's England whose reputation will be at stake because if you lose against a depleted PCT, then as a top team, you should feel disappointed.

This could become an advantage for PCT. As a dark horse, it has every opportunity to catch England off guard and surprise them.
 
Pitch prediction is always bit of lottery. Let us see what happens here.

Shan really really needs to win this toss though
 
3 spinners and just 1 pacer, this is not gonna end well if the pitch proves to be another flat one. Pakistan desperately need to win the toss and bat AAANNNDD hope that pitch breaks and spins on day 4-5
 
I still have no idea why they didn't play Mir Hamza or Mohammad Ali. Doesn't mean they won't get tonked but it would have made more sense.

Always extremes with this team.

Those pacers are far better in FC cricket than Zahid. If two specialist spinners can't get the job done, three won't either. Especially when the third is Zahid.
 
Third rate spinners, garbage quicks, hopeless batters....this is the summary of Pakistan cricket today.

But there is still Rizwan, the face of Pakistan cricket who's also better than Pant.
 
Used pitch that's carrying wear and tear that's also underwatered could be just the strategy to flip the script.
 
I shudder to imagine what will happen if ENgland win toss and bat first and the pitch 'miraculously' fails to turn on day 1 :murali
 
Kudrat Ka Nizam in Pakistan favour as SHan has wont the toss and will bat first. What a relief!

Now please bat out atleast one day
 
Pitch Report | Michael Atherton: "First time that a back-to-back Test is being played at the same stadium on exactly the same pitch. It's the same strip that used for the first Test match. What has the groundsmen been doing to try and bring this pitch back to life? A couple of days, he watered it, rolled it and had two giant fans drying the pitch from either end plus the hot sun. Yesterday, he just left it open to the elements, open to the sun to dry. So that means the cracks, that were closed slightly a couple of days ago, have now opened up. The cracks are quite open, it's basically how the pitch looked at the end of the first Test match. But the cracks are very solid. They are not really moving too much. So, it'll play pretty well for a day or two. Team selections are very interesting. England have hedged their bets, they have gone with a balanced side - three seamers, two spinners, thinking there might just as be as much off the cracks for the seamers and with the reverse swing because of the bare ends and the way the other pitches are being cut. Pakistan are all in on spin, just one specialist seamer, whole host of spinners. They'll be desperate to win the toss."
 
Although Pakistan made some really much needed changes, but they still could have selected 2 fast bowlers. Mir Hamza or any other fast bowler should have been there.

I could hear Ben Stokes say, 'its started already boys'.

That's where those cracks are from Brydon Carse's end. There's a big long crack with a crumbling edge and if you hit the corner it could dart along the ground.

One there caught Abdullah Shafique on the back foot.
 
Potts is no Atkinson
Carse won't have the same intensity in this Test
Stokes cannot share the workload like Woakes could

PAK should really drive home the advantage . No better chance to beat England.

I'm sure he's fine, I fact I'm starting to think he was dropped not cause of poor form but because Babar requested cake time qith family.

He has so much power at pcb that it would not he shocking

Pakistan is a soap opera and I have already watched all seasons and have seen the ending

Abdullah has century in last match. And as per babar rule of thoughts, he dont need to score until 3 matches he will be fine
