Pakistan 570/6d - Australia 22/1 (5.2 ov) - Australia trail by 548 runs in the 1st innings

As Australia come in to bat today, it will be hard to predict which way they go. Any hopes of salvaging the series are now gone. The question is whether they will play for a draw or throw caution to the wind and play the brand of cricket they’re best known for. The challenge of Pakistan’s spinners, after Steve Smith extracted considerable turn in his short spells, will be a daunting one and one that will make for compelling viewing against batsman of Michael Clarke and Steve Smith’s pedigree against the turning ball.

I want to see some fight and to be able to draw this match. Ideally score 400+ here

Why isn't he in there as a stop gate?

Look at the age profile of the team.

Rogers 36, Clarke 33 with a dodgy back, Haddin 36, Johnson 32/33, Harris 35, Watto 33 and injury prone and Siddle past it.

They want to bring in new batsman and don't want to send Smith into the top order just yet.

They brought back Rogers due to having no choice but will want someone who can hang around for a while instead of Voges

I don't rate him but I imagine our middle order stocks are low enough that Cameron White might get a run again. Especially if Clarke is forced to retire early and they go with Smith as Captain

I want to see the following:

1. some fight but not stupid cowlashing
2. need to show we can score runs on this wicket too
3. we need to bat for two days get to 500+ and then see what happens on day 5.

Unfortunately most of the players we have are not really stick to the wicket type players except Rogers (now gone) and Clarke (out of form)

Tbh the odds of Clarke doing well in such conditions were pretty slim as is, he's never been great in the SC and he has scoreboard pressure to deal with.

Smith is.

Marsh is a weird. People think he's a dasher but he and his brother are pretty classical and score slowly in first class cricket.

Concentration is their issue but they have the ability to bat out long periods.

2016 can't come sooner :D

I don't think Aus will avoid the follow on.

You only have 4 specialist bats (with one already out) in the side and 2 non international standard 'A/Rs'.

Should have gone in with more if you were confident :P

Did the payday ease the pain of defeat?

I'm a poor uni student so $20 is all I could stretch my expenditure to.

The inevitability of the defeat eased the pain as did WA winning the one day cup.

It's not a road, it's a freeway!!! - Dean Jones.

Hilarious pitch report by him.. he said he was wrong when he predicted the pitch will break up. It hasn't a single bit.. and it'll be a runs fest! :P

Not a good news for PAK.. if AUS survive and don't lose wickets, it's going to be a draw.

Convict would you consider a bowler who has taken 5 5fers against one team in 21 innings and 0 5fers against the other teams he's played against in 11 innings a bully of that team?

Well I made significant cash on Pakistan to win the first test. Saw it coming all year

Clarke doesn't look fit enough to be playing

Clearly you have more faith in Pak than I do.

Betting on them is like playing russian roulette with a full chamber. :91:

Aus could have held on to a drawn series had they shown some spine in the first game.

My problem with Smith is every time he has gotten in and scored a ton he has got out shortly after. Other than his debut ton he has gotten out soon after the milestone. Obviously it's good to see him get to the milestone that not everyone else can, but to really push himself into Clarkesque or Younis Khan territory with the bat it would be good to see him make a big daddy hundred.

Oh look it's a post from Aman bagging Australia ::J
You got pretty close to holding on, if one or two if they top order had stuck around you could have headed into this Test 0-0.

I mean, if MJ could do it, why couldn't a few of the batsmen?

I don't reckon Clarke is anywhere near fit. He's kinda a liability in this state.

Only because Pakistan kept dropping catches at the end

Sidds against England?

Ok 6 of those innings have been against Zimbabwe and 5 against SA.

A Pakistani bowler?

I think it's a small sample size but you'd have to consider the prospect that he needs conditions a bit

Cowardly Pakistani players. Typical risk averse attitude, being scared to take the review out of fear of wasting it when that looked plumb. Pathetic stuff. Not for the first time I have seen this

Afraid Warner not able to comprehend that.

Going to be a very long day for these boys, unless they get all out by tea. If they do I would defnitely enforce the follow on

Junaid against SL?

Decent bowler; first-change bowler, not someone who can lead the attack.

only siddle ,johson and smith can bat rest all are easy wickets

Think you're angry for another reason :misbah

Hughes' stocks have risen so much because of this series.

Maxwell does have a first class century after coming in at 6/9

Aman trying too hard. No matter what you do, Junaid will remain quality.

Best reverse swing bowler in the world according to some PPers :afaq

That has to be a joke. :)))

He is good at reversing the ball, yes. He would have been tremendous in these conditions. He likes dry, flat tracks.

Also, he can seam the ball but only if the conditions suit him.

Best reverse swing bowlers - Steyn and Anderson are better than the rest.
