It's good that it's a small sample set, because he's a number 3 batsman, who shouldn't open.

You don't make your best players, specially regulars at other positions, open. Just because you have a hunch that he "can" open.

That's associate-nation level thinking. We're a proper, top ranked Test team.
 
Azhar Ali as expected failed as the opener. You cant dance your way out against the new ball Azhar. These are not ODIs.

Misbah is Shaan's biggest supporter.

Does this mean Misbah can't judge a cricketer?

Who is going to open?? Hafeez?? Shan??

Azhar is going to come inside of the first five anyway. The opener gone adds to the pressure, not in anyway minimize his dismissal chances.

Infact Azhar opening with Haris at three will give the best chance to our middle order and Sarfraz to pile up the runs in the later ovets.

Misbah backs each of his boys. Calm down. Nobody rates him, maybe except some 'connections' of his.

All the bowlers in that series were bowling at 150+kph, so there absolutely no way Malik is afraid of the ball.

He just backs away because he likes to play mind games with the bowlers.

In this series we're stuck because of bad selections, that's why he is opening.

He's not a regular opener and will NOT open in future series. Need proper specialists now. For now, Hafeez has done enough to play.. someone to support him.
 
I wish spinner isnt injured... There goes one of our run scoring oppurtunities
 
Have to say, there is a lot of dark humor in this situation if Patel is unable to bowl in the remainder of the test. Hope he's okay though. :(

No personal grudges. Its not Waqar's fault Shehzad is such a big idiot.

A year back he was everywhere, great form in tests, scoring runs in ODIs and talks about future captaincy.

Its his own fault that he is nowhere to be seen now.

I still think he is a best opener in the squad and should have gotten all three games. Has been very good in tests since his debut. But its understandable why they are not playimg him.

Yeah he had quite a few good spells but that's one that had impact but the point is he put his body to its extreme to bowl those spells.

You don't want him to bowl in unresponsive pitches and break his back and end with a premature career. Everyone should have something to work with in a pitch.

Why can't he? When he sees Pakistan's legendary batsmen ducking every ball fast bowlers bowl and getting 90% of their runs against spinners I'm sure he is allowed to have this luxury as well. Only Hafees in this batting line up can score well against both pace men and spinners the rest struggles. You should talk if we have AB Devilliers in the line up.

Yes, Hafeez should be one of our openers. He's not going to get runs against swing or seam but on flat tracks, he'll cash in. Plus, he's the best puller in our team and the pitches in Australia will suit him.

Babar Azam, Sami Aslam or your own boy, Haris Sohail can partner him. No need to unsettle Azhar Ali when he is approaching peak form and has done so well at #3.

If attitude is an issue then waqar should go and teach in some school related to behaviours not cricket. Most of our players are already A class players especially the likes of shafiq and azhar. If some guy has some attitude about him. We want to kill that as well. Just great.

Definitely agree with that. The pitches for the last series against England were great because every type of player had assistance from the pitch and conditions.

Since that poster is so adamant that there is no difference between opening and batting at #3, why shouldn't Haris open? I'd definitely want that over a possible screwing-up of Azhar Ali.

Hafeez will destroyed in Aus. He couldnt play Jhonson in the U.A.E. He is good at Hooking and Pulling on these pitches only.

SA series is a good example, take ODI into account too if you want. Any hint of seam, swing or bounce and Hafeez is a walking wicket.

Plus its going to move around there too in the first hour.

Think that was down to him being in poor form more than anything. Hafeez has played bounce very well, whenever I've seen him. Plus, having two new openers for these away tours would be too disruptive.

In the post above you say Shehzad is our best opener, but the fact is he's even weaker than Hafeez at playing swing. :)))

Then you bash Hafeez for not being great against swing. :srt

Stick to one stance. I'd take Hafeez any day over Shehzad, a better allround opener, certainly better at swing/seam than him.

If batting at #3 is between Azhar and Haris, with the other opening, I'd want the guy who doesn't average 45 at #3 to open the batting.

Attitude is what the likes of johnson, wahab and kohli have. Shehzad should show some attitude with the bat :). Opposition teams love him esp in odis. They want him to stay at the wicket for as long as possible to waste our powerplay. They feel unlucky if he gets out early

Another thing going for Hafeez is the form that he's in. No way is he going to be dropped if he gets another fifty here.

I am sure they love to see him stay on the wicket because more often than not when he scores above 50; Pakistan wins the match. I so have to agree with you. :))

Shehzad has played away in one country and failed there. That too in subcontinent
 
These tactics of pre-emptive movements by fielders should not be allowed. It's against the spirit of the game.

Seems like your cave hidings are selective because you mentioned NZ but failed to mention SA. Well, we got that. Hawkeye wants Hafeez to open for us next year. Lejund opinion. :))

Your hatred for Shehzad is well recorded so its difficult to converse in a logical manner with you.
 
I do hope this is the last we see of Shoaib Malik in whites. Deserving performers like Fawad, Haris, Rizwan and Babar are missing out because of bits and pieces players like him.

Nobody sane on this forum would pick Shehzad over Hafeez. I think you might've realized that it's only you on this forum alone still cheering for him.

The only places outside Asia they have played together are SA and NZ.
And Shehzad was by far the better bat.

Even in test cricket he has been better than Hafeez in the respective series they played together.

Vs SL in 2013-14. Shehzad has a ton in the Sharjah test setting up the win.

Vs Aus. Hafeez was all over the place again. Shehzad again has a ton.

Vs NZ. One innings and he has a 176. Although to Hafeez's credit, he was superb in this series.

Both flooped in SL.

Your double standards on show here. The highest averaging batsman from Asia overseas, in NZ/SA/Eng/Aus is Misbah. In ODIs. Yet you bash him. :)))

Now bringing a few fluke examples from ODIs to show how Shehzad is a superior batsman overseas? As I said earlier, stick to one stance.

If you want to keep believing how great Shehzad is, you're free to. I can't argue with that. I thought you've realized your mistakes on Shehzad, was wrong.
 
i get the feeling this pitch has more for the spinners than the others , judging by the few overs of spin so far , having said that i hope it doesn't die down , would love to see sharp spin.

Hafeez paying for getting overconfident. Two of our best batsmen gone, not been the best start.
