England have a chance with the new ball.

It might be their last hope actually so could be make or break for them.

If they get 2 quick wickets they are right back in it. Crucial next 1 hour for both teams.

So Bumble thinks 220 is demanding and 250 is difficult to chase down here...I would play safe and Pakistan should try past 300.

Yeah, we should just try and bat normally for the rest of the day which will take us to a lead of 300 or so. Keep England out in the field for as long as possible for two reasons, obviously it gives us more runs but just as importantly it tires them out which makes it harder to bat all day to save a test.

It's all a moot point because we'll probably get torn apart by the new ball any second now.

Just woke up, this is one massive innings by Hafeez.

I am big critique of Hafeez(still am when it comes to green and bounce), but this is a huge innings by professor!!![emoji847][emoji847][emoji847]

Let's see how they handle new cherry [emoji15][emoji15][emoji15]

He hasnt played any Tests against us thats why i said he aint a proven performer compared to Herath.

Well we have handled off spinners really well so far. And in the past also. Ashwin aint Muralitharan so he will be a piece of cake.

Than how come he has better ODI bowling stats against PAK compared to SRL or BD?

Don't allow your judgement getting biased with the nationality of the player - he is the best finger spinner in contemporary world; apart from PAK, SRL & BD plays spin really well & in last 7 innings he has 25 Test wickets against them with 3 five wicket haul - he 'll trouble PAK big time on turners.

That particular pessimism is a result of watching Pakistani collapse after collapse

I was talking about Tests. And on turning tracks Herath is something special compared to Ashwin.

In ODIs, Ashwin is ok. Can keep it tight.

He's a very good spinner but until he plays Pak in Tests we can't judge him, simple as. ODI success is no way to judge him on Tests as its total different beast.

I really think he would not trouble Pak too much - he would against the lefties but Pak have hardly any.

You were advocating pomposity in last test and this is what we needed now.

It's not wrist-slitting if it's realistic. Pakistan are still on top, you don't see me moaning that we're going to lose do you?

If these two survive the next ten overs then 2-0 should be a piece of cake.

somehow refreshing that runs are flowing with new ball too.

Think we want a lead of around 300 before we declare. We would want to take the possibility of a loss out of the equation.

New ball is not doing anything so good signs for Pak.

They shouldn't get complacent though.

Yes but for the moment these two are not doing so badly with new ball...odd singles few runs here and there.. I think this is way to go.

Pons are trying to bounce us out rather than pitching up

Misbah is walking as if it maybe his last innings ever

At least Bullet Drive and co will be happy, poor guy must have been sweating bullets that he would hit that 50 average :))

Misbah threw it away so still Asad needs to stick there for another 50 + partnership.

Misbah expecting the short ball there.

These two have to see out the new ball.

Broad and Anderson could go through us here

Asad needs to just stay in, take singles and let Hafeez do the heavy lifting.

what is wrong with misbah and younis they crumble when the fast bowlers come on. That was again poor for an experienced player.

I think Misbah is going to retire, his reaction was a dead giveaway..

This is big test for Asad he needs to show what he is made of here.

Cheap dismissal and then followed by the lame smile. He mostly gets out in crucial situations :(

But the positive/satisfactory thing is that Shafiq is in as he is our best batsman against pace.

Last innings for Misbah??

If so then his performance this series has been a fitting way to go out.

He has been really good on the feild and even more so off it in the last 5 years.

Misbah has his share of LBW through out the career. Second after Watson?

Why is Misbah retiring? Can't you see we need him for overseas tours?

He is not capable to handle pace outside subcontinent he is not doing much here so you can read....We need to come up with better solution.

Hafeez needs to get a double here, can't rely on Sarfraz and the tail.

We need another 125 runs at least to put the poms under pressure.

Pivitol part of the whole series now! england have the new ball and are almost into our very long Tail, we still need at least another 80 runs to have a possible match winning total, we have to get through this tough spell as england will throw everything at us.

He's 41, had planned on retiring after the India series which fell through. He doesn't play pyjama cricket so there's a huge gap with no cricket for him between now and next summer. Better for him to retire tbh.

Hafeez needs to stand firm and get a double ton, if england get one more wicket i can see us folding like a pack of cards.

Misbah is making wise decision. He cannot play broad and Anderson here, forget about England. He is 41, next 18 months are on green and bounce. He don't have reflexes and technique to play seamers.

Sarfaraz clapping using the bat and one of his hands. Looks like such a destructive player.

Great innings from Hafeez may have won Pakistan this Test.

No, it'd be like suggesting India don't pick their seamers simply due to the fact that they are capable of batting as well, and picking the worse bowlers because they also bat worse. Just not logical.

This is the UAE, going in with 1 spinner probably wouldn't be a wise move.

You made me work hard.

In UAE, 1 spinner is not a wise move, but going with 2 specialist bowlers only is a DUMB move. It's not about picking which bowler, it's about the balance of the attack - had ENG got 3rd pacers Wood/Plunket, on 1st Day, PAK would have struggled to put 200.

Availability of spinner could be an issue, but not in this case. ENG initially selected Moeen, Rashid & Zafar Ansari - I have no issues with Adil, may be even Moeen as well - he can make the 16 men squad; but can you explain why ECB selectors should pick Zafar & then Patel over Simon Karrigan? A left-arm spinner who has ~300 FC wickets in County Division 1 at around 29? Last summer, he had ~50 FC wickets at around 25, when Patel averages 40+ & Zafar 35+ in FC & they had combined ~25 wickets @ ~50 last summer?

The clue is in their FC batting average - Patel/Zafar averages 30+, Kerrigan averages ~10.

150 for Hafeez, well batted!

Asad needs to score a 50 here atleast and reign in any flash strokes while new ball is being used.
