Azhar, haris and shan/babar(if he improves vs short bowling) is a great top 3 with younis at 4

Agree, Azhar and Harris are best for Solidity in top order. One opener will be dodgy in any case

Shehzad/Shan
Azhar
Harris
YK
Misbah
Shafiq
Sarfraz
Yamin (For England)
Yasir shah
Wahab
Aamer

Azhar will not open. He's a number 3. People need to stop fantasizing as it'll not happen in long term specially on overseas tours.

Need centuries from Khan, Misbah, Shafiq and Sarfaraz. Should completely crush England here so all this rubbish talk about them being as good as Pakistan is quickly dissolved.

I hope people are not seeing Malik as a long-term option.

I have never used to cheap tactics to criticize Malik, I only mentioned his stats are a big humbling for his die hard fans who think he is the second coming of Bradman thats all.

Don't hate the messenger.

I'm not hating, btw I've to agree the hype and glorification for Malik after that double on lifeless track was getting over the top and people had already predicted his second coming nothing short of a Massiah for Pakistan's cricket which is a bit immature at the moment. His stats in Test Cricket aren't promising either and now this weakness against short ball will give his opposition something to work on and will give him alot of headaches in matches to come.

What has to be mentioned here is the ridiculous planning from the PCB for this series,

from not selecting a 3rd spinner to Azhar Ali's visa issues.

To players going for Hajj and not being rested enough.

This series has everything going wrong for us.

A typical Pakistan series.

Agreed

Shan Masood's knock is nothing short of FANTASTIC.

Loved his Lara-like hook/pull to Broad I think. It was very elegant to watch.

Some eye catching stroke play.

The guy needs to keep his head down and keep working on improving himself. There are still problems with the way he gets stuck to the crease facing a swinging delivery.

Once you get into the Test team, it's pretty hard to get dropped especially if you're as well connected as him.

I see him going to England.

Masood is a strange case. He played a good knock today so far, was again scratchy in the start though.

On most occasions he looks like a newbie in club cricket, at times plays good. Not reliable at the moment.

Our top 3 is too Vulnerable even for UAE.

Let alone England next year.

True. Malik, Hafeez and Shan is a disaster waiting to happen unless the pitch is a total highway (last game).

Azhar as opener and Haris at three, now thats looks good. The best players we have of swing at 2 and 3.

We must have those two there before England next year. That will also allow us to play Rizwan (or anyother bat) at no.5 further strengthing the batting.

Shan Masood looks vulnerable against short pitch stuff .. but he survived at scored at decent rate

The only aspect he needs to work on is his trigger movement just before the ball is delivered, he gets in a very awkward position when executing the shot, his whole balance is disturbed and he's neither back nor front due to imbalance of his weight and gives the impression that he's stuck on crease. In order to be a successful bat, he needs work on his trigger movement and minimize its impact on his stance.

Shan doesn't have bad potential, but he has a few technical problems he needs to patch up, mainly against the short ball. The way he handles the short ball is atrocious.

Wrong thread oops.

But key session now. This session will shape the test. We need to lose max 2 wickets.

Don't think its 'atrocious' tbh. That would be likes of Raina & Moeen Ali.

Shan has pulled likes of Morkel, Philander & Broad so he can play.

Definitely unreliable atm, he's not ripped for international cricket just yet, needs to work on his deficiencies in domestic. He has basic technical flaws which makes him vulnerable, yes he may score the odd 50 or 100 here or there but its the consistency that should be the concern.

Maybe he can attack the short ball alright, but his defensive game against the short ball isn't up to scratch, he needs to learn how to duck and swerve properly, he just does a Misbah, and turns away. He should work on it with Grant Flower.

Misbah and younis need to show responsibility now! This is gonna be out.. Theres no damn hotspot

Looks not out but lack of it spot will hurt us

Why this clueless thing reviewed it when he was so unsure if he had hit it.

From his crying looks it seemed he had nicked, took ages to take review.

What would people accept as a first day score at stumps-

290-3 would be excellent

290-4 acceptable

290-5 60/40 in englands favour

290-6 Englands day

I hardly doubt that. It would be a miracle if we reach 300

Was not going to be overturned and this clueless Masood made it easy for umpire with his antics.

Drop him. Will gladly take even Shehzad over this club cricketer.

Yaar he played some good strokes. But alas, his deficiencies got the better of him

These two must keep the scorecard ticking. Must not be very defensive. They must be there till 200 at least.

Masood's flick on the leg side had shades of Nasir Jamshed in his prime. He used to flick on the leg side for 4 without moving his feet.

Same issues is with Masood. These batsmen don't move their feet.

The only thing that's gonna hurt Pakistan in the long run is his 54 (87), didn't even last one delivery post lunch, if he fails in the second innings, drop him for good.

You really think that will happen with Misbah at the crease.

Get ready for something like 6 of 38 balls from Misbah

And 20 of 53 balls from Younis Khan.

3 poor dismissals and now we are in trouble on a wicket thats good for batting! 88/3

Someone needs to stand up with bat and score a 100 here!

Misbah being slightly positive.

He can only score off spinners so will have to do most of the work here.

Why would you ever take a review there?? That was out just by the sound.

Shot by YK. :four

Shafiq, Sarfraz are yet to come.

They certainly are no tail.

Not sure about Sarfraz, but Shafiq definitely yes, he's the last batsman you can count on in tough situation, and his performances of late aren't impressive either, one good innings per series.

How was the pitch in the morning session? I had missed the first session. Any difference between Abu Dhabi and this one? If anyone can shed light. Thanks.

Tbh, the real batting starts from now.

It used to start from number 3, Azhar. But today we have duds at all top 3 positions. Hafeez isn't that bad though, often scores and scores fast.
