If true, absolutely shameful of ECB.

Why should they forfiet

Very hypocritical of ECB. Did they offer to forfeit when they cancelled a full series against SA last year?
True. There isn't a bigger hypocritic board than ECB.

Why don't they themselves forfeit the 5th test? Why are they asking India to forfeit the test?

Source for this claim?

India's playing squad have all received negative PCR results after assistant physio Yogesh Parmar tested positive for Covid-19

That means the match should continue as per schedule?

India is always one spell away from getting bowled out for 36/78. Both teams have crappy batting unit. Just that Indian tailenders did better this time in contrast with English tail last time.

"The BCCI also put out the option of cancelling the final Test, but the ECB is understood to have made it clear that it would interpret any refusal to play as forfeiture. The BCCI was keen to avoid such a scenario as not only would it see England square the series, but it could expose them to claims of lost revenue from broadcasters and the venue. The lost revenue could be up to £30 million (INR 306 crore)."

So this is just ECB being ECB, always want to have its say.

Day 1 postponed , don't know reason. Match will happen or not decision likely in 1 hour .

CSA should have claimed England forfeited the series again them.

That's what I'm hearing.

This could be the end of the Big Three.

India has previously harmed Cricket South Africa, but nobody has done this to the ECB. And it's too late in the early Autumn for the ECB to have time to fly in alternative opposition for a replacement Test.

I'm actually enjoying this.

Pathetic from the ECB who want India to forfeit the match, maybe they think they are still in colonial times.

https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com....com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=TOIMobile

It's what Pakistan did at The Oval in 2006. If you don't turn up to play, you forfeit. Even Shaharyar Khan agreed - he never forgave Inzamam for his stupidity.

Old Trafford has an on-site hotel. There's no pretext for not playing on Covid grounds.

Looks like some people are glad they are ahead in the series and want to be sure of getting back for the IPL.

So this is just ECB being ECB, always want to have its say.

You mean they want to play the game they've organised, when they made it very clear they were expecting the possibility of positive tests this summer and would have procedures in place for it, and want compensation if the opposition pull out despite that...? How unreasonable...

BCCI, Kohli and Indian team pulling out all the stops here to try and get the match cancelled so they can protect their series lead and play IPL — painfully transparent

There is no legitimate reason to cancel this match at all, if India push for this then it absolutely should be viewed as a forfeit.

This is the problem for the BCCI.

Their relationships with all other Boards are 100% TRANSACTIONAL.

There is no relationship with the BCCI except for money.

Last year the West Indies and Pakistan supported the ECB in its hour of need by playing 6 Tests at 2 grounds in a bubble. The Pakistan players had to prepare in a 1 star hotel at both Worcester and Derby.

If you make your relationships entirely transactional, you might want to not run away and leave the hosts with a £30 million TV rights debt.

Especially when it was your own coach’s recklessness that brought the virus into the camp.

Interesting how the Indian team were more than happy to take the field when they were fighting for a 2-1 series lead, and now they have earned this lead they want to go home at the first sign of covid. Lmao

Sorry I am getting confused here..

Is it ECB that wants to forfeit the match or the Indians ???

Lol why should india forfeit this test. Why there in no bubble at first place ,any spectators came in ground and collision with players. Total incompatancy by ECB here

This is a smart move by BCCI. They are just doing to ECB what ECB did to South Africa board by calling off the series against South Africa.

Nothing wrong with that.

The ECB wants to play due to £10 million of ticket and hospitality sales and £20 million of sold TV rights.

India want to go home.

Series ends 2-2 then?

What a massive disappointment, after so much wonderful cricket between these two sides.

As an England fan I would want to see England beating India and earning a 2-2 tied series; and if I was an Indian fan, I would want my team to go out there and consolidate the series, to take home a huge 3-1 win.

Terrible decision and a very sad day for the game.

Lol another drama as ECB has edited the "Forfeit" part in the press release so the result for the 5th Test is still unknown.

The ECB gives indian an option to the complete the 5th Test next year when they visit England for the white ball series.

From ECB

Following ongoing conversations with the BCCI, the ECB can confirm that the fifth Test between England and India Men due to start today at Emirates Old Trafford, will be cancelled.

Due to fears of a further increase in the number of COVID cases inside the camp, India are regrettably unable to field a team.

Well if it ends up as a drawn series then not sure how thats smart

Can you please clarify BCCI forfeit this test or its cancelled ? What is the end result 2-1 to india or 2-2 draw .

Look this is really tough, if India cant play it shouldnt be an Indian series win, it should be a drawn series....

Why would we forfeit this test, if all our players our Covid negative and are already ahead by 2-1?

Something is missing here....

Pathetic of Ganguly if he has allowed this to happen.

It cant be, news coming out that Indians cannot field enough players to the match due to CoviD

Obviously right now there will be no match, but it still seems that we are not sure as to the outcome: postponed til next year, draw, no result, or England win by default?

Did England forfeit their matches when they pulled out of the South African tour due to covid?

Don't let racism and xenophobia cloud your judgement. Have some basic humanity when there is a health crisis in the Indian camp, ECB too deserves blame for allowing crowds and letting that clown Jarvo near the players.

This match is cancelled, for all we know BCCI may include a test next year when India tours England for T20s and ODIs.

I think this has to do with the IPL. I read it somewhere. Had this been a bio secure bubble, they could have gone from bubble to bubble with no quarantine. If this test had gone ahead and with the cases we had, they would have to quarantine for a week in the UAE and IPL, I believe, starts on the 19th. Players wont be available until 22nd I think in that case. Rubbish scheduling all around.

No official line yet on whether India forfeited the match or not.

I'm waiting for all the facts to emerge but I hope a test match hadn't been cancelled to accommodate the IPL...

I am hearing Indian players are reluctant to play this test match as it may jeapordize the IPL. If this is true, awful stuff. I will personally join brother Bhaag Viru and criticize IPL from here on.

Might be some players are starting to show symptoms perhaps, dont want a repeat of Sri Lanka, fielding a weakened team and losing the game

Please don't let this be true.
It's been a fantastic test series and it should not have ended this way.
I can understand if India couldn't field a full team due to covid, but not because they're prioritising IPL

India currently 54.17% (26 pts/poss 48)
if match drawn: 46.67% (28/60)
if forfeited: 43.33% (26/60)
if null and void: unchanged 54.17%

England currently 29.17% (14/48)
if drawn: 26.67% (16/60)
if awarded win on forfeit: 43.33% (26/60) same as India.

England should be awarded the series and BCCI must compensate ECB for this loss of revenue. Its totally Indian players fault. Everyone has tested negative, then why are they reluctant to play? Its quiet clear they dont want IPL to get affected.

I mean, you aren't an Indian fan after all. Indians disproportionately care more for IPL than a test series away from home. IPL is also what brings money for Indian cricket etc etc.

The right call has been made.

Didn't England come back to play test after 26/11? Can't India come back to play 1 test to finish it

frankly, its fair for both sides - England could level series or India can even go 3-1

Because the virus takes a few days to incubate and only then it registers on tests.

If they actually "forfeited" it to accommodate IPL circus, I'll start supporting New Zealand from now on. Simply unforgivable..

Happy to see ENG getting served what they dished our Global South Brothers in South Africa. The series win is the lush red cherry on top.

Well as per offical reports all players tested negative. So not sure why cant they field a full team unless they are lying of the test results.

Also, if players are tested positive for covid, they cant leave UK either as UAE will not allow them to enter. So how will they play IPL which starts in 8 days time?

NZ refused to tour Bangladesh before the WTC final due to pandemic
Aus refused to tour SA, losses to CSA as confirmed by Graeme Smith
Eng pulled out of SA tour causing enormous financial losses to CSA
Eng hesitant to tour Aus

No problem, all fine.

India does a full tour of Australia. Does a full tour of Sri Lanka despite corona outbreak in the squad. Completes 4 out of 5 tests in England before health crisis, reports say they may play a test next year. Suddenly Team India and BCCI are villains and the other boards are angels.

The kind of xenophobes posting on this forum masquerading as cricket fans I tell you.

I am also doubly delighted to know that Indian players know the real worth of IPL, and its absolute importance over test matches.

Gladdens my heart, truly.

Really disgraceful and disgusting if the story about IPL is true. All the hype and aggression will be shown up as patently false.

If true, will be shame, biggest shame. Ganguly will have a lot of answering to do.

Answering to whom? The posters on this forum? Yes, that's absolutely in order and top of Ganguly's list of worries.

It should get postponed but still the match should happen at some point. We had an exciting series till now. The result shouldn't be decided based on this.

You're getting very close to defamation here.

Do you really want to go down that road?

I assure you that you do not.

If true, will be shame, biggest shame. Ganguly will have a lot of answering to do.

Fault lies only and only on players. Ganguly/Shah has personally emailed everyone to not attend any public events without BCCIs permission. Even then Shastri/Kohli attended the book launch without notifying BCCU. Its actually ban worthy offence what Kohli has done. Srilankan players were banned due to similar offence. But we all know Kohli cant be even touched.

India have a white ball tour of ENG next summer. Very likely we'll see this test match added to the fixture.

Bless me soul, the match has been called off because India cannot field a team.

Do England win by default? Is the series a 2-2 draw?

I think many are comparing the test is more important and higher quality than T20 - this is 2nd phase of IPL and they have to answer to stakeholders, franchises who are waiting in UAE

So financially, yes, its their prerogative to save that part too - i don't blame them, there is a way bigger market and fan base for that too, I mean nothing beats tests and especially this time around but you can't just cancel delay IPL again for 1 test

Amazing really. To rub ENG in dirt at home first and then in their own conditions. But obviously not as good as the win in AUS.

No, ENG don't get to claim a win here.

Racism and xenophobia? Get the **** out of here, that is bloody outrageous.

Answer the question.

Did England forfeit their matches when they pulled out of the South African tour due to covid?

Now look at the language you used in earlier posts, I quoted just one of them. Instead of expressing some basic empathy towards the affected people in the Indian squad.

I mean, you aren't an Indian fan after all. Indians disproportionately care more for IPL than a test series away from home. IPL is also what brings money for Indian cricket etc etc.

Not true brother. I like IPL but a SENA test series is wayyyyyy more valuable.

Beeb says every Indian player passed a PCR test last night. They are all fit to play the match.

IPL starts in ten days. I smell a rat.

I remember when Pakistan called up Ehteshamuddin from league cricket in 1982.

One year earlier Australia did the same with Mike Whitney.

India could have called up dozens of people from league cricket if they wanted to play.
