If true, absolutely shameful of ECB.England Cricket Board wants India to forfeit the 5th Test, but Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are learnt in clear terms to have conveyed that the Indian team would not forfeit the Test match.

True. There isn't a bigger hypocritic board than ECB.Very hypocritical of ECB. Did they offer to forfeit when they cancelled a full series against SA last year?

India's playing squad have all received negative PCR results after assistant physio Yogesh Parmar tested positive for Covid-19

Match will go ahead.

I wouldn’t believe a word coming out of TOI which is practically a tabloid now.Pathetic from the ECB who want India to forfeit the match, maybe they think they are still in colonial times.

So this is just ECB being ECB, always want to have its say."The BCCI also put out the option of cancelling the final Test, but the ECB is understood to have made it clear that it would interpret any refusal to play as forfeiture. The BCCI was keen to avoid such a scenario as not only would it see England square the series, but it could expose them to claims of lost revenue from broadcasters and the venue. The lost revenue could be up to £30 million (INR 306 crore)."
This is from CI
Day 1 postponed , don't know reason. Match will happen or not decision likely in 1 hour .

CSA should have claimed England forfeited the series again them.

This is the problem for the BCCI.BCCI, Kohli and Indian team pulling out all the stops here to try and get the match cancelled so they can protect their series lead and play IPL — painfully transparent
That's what I'm hearing.
This could be the end of the Big Three.
The ECB wants to play due to £10 million of ticket and hospitality sales and £20 million of sold TV rights.Sorry I am getting confused here..
Is it ECB that wants to forfeit the match or the Indians ???
Well if it ends up as a drawn series then not sure how thats smartThis is a smart move by BCCI. They are just doing to ECB what ECB did to South Africa board by calling off the series against South Africa.
Nothing wrong with that.
From ECB
Following ongoing conversations with the BCCI, the ECB can confirm that the fifth Test between England and India Men due to start today at Emirates Old Trafford, will be cancelled.
Due to fears of a further increase in the number of COVID cases inside the camp, India are regrettably unable to field a team.
Why would we forfeit this test, if all our players our Covid negative and are already ahead by 2-1?
Something is missing here....
It's what Pakistan did at The Oval in 2006. If you don't turn up to play, you forfeit. Even Shaharyar Khan agreed - he never forgave Inzamam for his stupidity.
Old Trafford has an on-site hotel. There's no pretext for not playing on Covid grounds.
Looks like some people are glad they are ahead in the series and want to be sure of getting back for the IPL.

Might be some players are starting to show symptoms perhaps, dont want a repeat of Sri Lanka, fielding a weakened team and losing the gameIt cant be, news coming out that Indians cannot field enough players to the match due to CoviD
I am hearing Indian players are reluctant to play this test match as it may jeapordize the IPL. If this is true, awful stuff. I will personally join brother Bhaag Viru and criticize IPL from here on.
Did England forfeit their matches when they pulled out of the South African tour due to covid?
Don't let racism and xenophobia cloud your judgement. Have some basic humanity when there is a health crisis in the Indian camp, ECB too deserves blame for allowing crowds and letting that clown Jarvo near the players.
This match is cancelled, for all we know BCCI may include a test next year when India tours England for T20s and ODIs.
Look this is really tough, if India cant play it shouldnt be an Indian series win, it should be a drawn series....
Please don't let this be true.
It's been a fantastic test series and it should not have ended this way.
I can understand if India couldn't field a full team due to covid, but not because they're prioritising IPL
England should be awarded the series and BCCI must compensate ECB for this loss of revenue. Its totally Indian players fault. Everyone has tested negative, then why are they reluctant to play? Its quiet clear they dont want IPL to get affected.
Which is again creating confusion as we had all our players tested negative this morning! It cant be, news coming out that Indians cannot field enough players to the match due to CoviD

If true, will be shame, biggest shame. Ganguly will have a lot of answering to do.I think this has to do with the IPL.

The kind of xenophobes posting on this forum masquerading as cricket fans I tell you.

Didn't England come back to play test after 26/11? Can't India come back to play 1 test to finish it
frankly, its fair for both sides - England could level series or India can even go 3-1
Bless me soul, the match has been called off because India cannot field a team.
Do England win by default? Is the series a 2-2 draw?
Racism and xenophobia? Get the **** out of here, that is bloody outrageous.

I mean, you aren't an Indian fan after all. Indians disproportionately care more for IPL than a test series away from home. IPL is also what brings money for Indian cricket etc etc.
The right call has been made.
