What's new

West Indies v Pakistan | 1st Test | Sabina Park, Kingston | Apr 21-25, 2017 | Day 4

Misbah looks so awkward, specially against pace, its amazing how he has survived this long, specially last year...Last year he scored like 60/80 runs in 5 tests in southern Hemisphere

Can't wait until Misbah leaves. Absolute dud against pace. Abuses the spinners, but also gets out. Mediocre batsman overall.

Well he is a 42 year old man approaching 43. He was better against pace before 2015. Last couple of years he's been predominantly targeting spin to get his runs.

Anyway he needs to stay there with Sarfraz as our tail isn't great. Need 350 minimum - then dismiss WI cheaply in the 3rd innings.

Short leg should move back, he'd have caught that if he wasn't so close. :srt

He is overrated against spin. Defensive technique is poor. Needs to have a more crouched stance and lower back lift. Bishoo just tied some knots around him.

It's clear it's over for Misbah with the bat and whether he likes it or not. This should have been Usman's first game but we have Misbah who is batting like Younis in England.

He survived because we played 3 years on flat roads of UAE before our away cycle.

Bit too negative with the batting here. Need to accelerate or this will fizzle into a draw.

Misbah sucking the soul out of the bowlers but we need the Umpire to stay awake! :))

Misbah is completely clueless right now . . usually dominates spinners, but he ain't got a clue . .

Last 10 overs have been 3.3 RPO which is OK and if these two can bat for another hour or two then that run rate will only increase. Sarfraz is going along nicely and if Misbah remembers to put on his varifocals at lunch he might stop seeing it like a squash ball

They have bowled 23 overs in 2 hours . . absolutely ridiculous . . did this all along in the UAE as well! You have a 2 and a half hour session, should be bowling 34 35 overs minimum!

ICC really needs to crack down on over rates in test match cricket!!

We are leading, thanks to Sarfraz bhai. Misbah should hit out now, we must get lead of 200 by tea.

Is batting really difficult here or itz just our batsman.....?

Bit of both and sprinkle some people who don't understand test cricket on top and you have the perfect recipe for the current whinging.

There is the lead. Time to go all out guns blazing. No holding back now. 1% chance to win might as well take it. Can declare with a lead of 50.

lol no.

You can hit out to get the last 50-60 runs but you don't hit out 200 runs short of your target otherwise you end up with a lead of 70.

There is plenty of time left, these two can carry on at this pace for 45-60 mins after lunch and then Misbah can start slogging the spinners. Sarfraz doesn't need to change anything.

If we're going to win we will do it by batting once, or chasing a very small target in the 4th innings.

Its all Sarfraz again, Misbah does not have a technique or will to take the game forward, this is another issue with him. Max he will do is hiock one that will end up getting catch on long-on/off :acp:

My friend if you have forgotten this pitch is no minefield moreover we have already lost significant time to rain. In case we are looking to win the game which should always be the case this innings of Misbah is bizarre to say the least. We are not playing against a very superior teat team so don't understand the game plan

Sarfraz got the second highest strike rate (behind Warner) among all batsmen who've played test between the period of 2012 - 2017 ccc.jpg

but...what the hell is Misbah doing?? Pak could have forced a win had he played at least with a strike rate of 50

second best strike rate for sarfraz in last five years!

terrific stuff

Sarfraz was massive for us in last two years. Before him we had mostly draws in UAE with Misbah's epic tuk tuk... Sarfraz has given us runs to make match out of it, we started winning more than draw, Misbah's owes him a lot for those last 150-200 quick runs...

As you can see on your screen, you don't get to average 56 against spin with a poor technique.

Sarfi's 80 ball century against Aus in the 1st test set the tone for the series win. It was going to be a draw but his innings changed the complexion of match and series.

50 is too low but would definitely be a aggressive move. It will tell WI that we are here to win no matter how small the lead.

Sarfu motoring along at a SR of 90. Itna taiz tou Misbah ODI mein nahi khelta.

We've been going at over 3.5 RPO this morning, dry your eyes, look at the game situation and then grab the calculator.

70 overs left in the day's play, that leaves us with around 45-50 overs of batting before any declaration to give us just under 4 sessions to bowl at the Windies.

We're going at 3.68 this morning, even if that only increases to 4 RPO that's a lead of 200 runs. If they can actually up the run rate to 5 RPO then we can declare a little bit a few overs after tea with a lead of 250+

Nice to see Sarfraz help Misbah out here, he is carrying him and trying his best to make it easy out there. Misbah is struggling, no doubt about it and is relying entirely on his toughness, fight and will power to never quit; the traits which have been the hallmark of his career.

Misbah has been rightly criticized for his dead batting so far, but we must not forget how many runs Sarfraz has missed out on because of batting with tailenders.

Misbah knows if he gets out now, Sarfraz will eventually run out of partners.

Misbah into nervous 40s. Expect these last 10 runs to be scored in 50 odd balls.

Despite the fact that Misbah is struggling, he's started to get runs now and is playing fewer dots in comparison to the beginning of his innings. I expect him to get only better with the more deliveries he faces. After all, he plays only one format so it takes some time to get going. For Misbah to get a big score here and find form will be a good sign for Pakistan for the rest of the series. His batting will be extremely crucial if Pakistan are to win this series.

Misbah needs 9 runs for 5000 runs and Sarf need 6 runs for 2000 runs.

Right time for Misbah to drop anchor and reduce his SR from 32 to 20-22

Exactly. The tail begins after this and we all know how bad our tailenders are. I don't expect them to last 10 overs vs Gabriel.

Misbah is getting a single or two every over while Sarfraz plays at a quick rate. The partnerships moving steadily but it is good.

Just love the way Sarfraz bat, positive intent, it appears Sarfraz and Misbah are playing at two entirely different wickets and against two starkly different attacks

Time for Sarfraz do something special

Enough of good looking 40 to 60s

Need a hundred from him

Sarf schooling 43 year old Misbah how to bat on this easy pitch.

Well played lad.

Younis Reaches 10,000
Sarfaraz Reaches 2,000
Misbah - now it's you're turn!

:six by Misbah

Current partnership 80 runs, Misbah contribution 25, Sarf contribution 53.

Thank you Misbah

:salute

Nathan Lyon and Steven O'Keefe ate him for breakfast and lunch in Australia.

He slogged his wickets away. In 2014 series, Lyon and O'Keefe did sod all in more spin-friendly conditions.

This is cricket. You can have all guns blazing. One guy plays the anchor while the other goes after the bowling.
