Arsenal FC | 2023/24 Season

I back the manager cos thats all there is to do. Does not mean I accept lower standards but I am willing to see the level he can take us. He is to far down the line now.

However... having said that I do think he is under pressure to get something this season. Preferably the big 2 or FA cup bare minimum and even then it will be under whelming. What I am trying to say is if this season the trajectory is not up then might be time to realise Arteta is not that guy.
Good honest assessment - let's see if others have standards or excuses

Delusion at its finest, all this chest beating yet couldn't even give a straight position finish for Arsenal.

Similar period to 97-2005? If not better - the club won 3 PL titles, 4 FA cups (PL / FA cup double) and an invincible season.

You think under current bottle job manager who has bottled the last 3 seasons and has had his pants taken down in Europe in europa league is going to win a CL and a few PL titles off Man city.

I've heard some stupid comparisons in my time but this is comedy gold.

Let's see the flip flop excuses if it's a 4th trophyless season In a row.

Never seen someone twerk for mediocrity as much as you. Embarrassing to say the least.

Arsene Wenger couldn’t make a UCL final during the 1997-2005 period.

If Arteta can win a couple of PLs and make a UCL final appearance in the next 7-8 years, it will be on par with the 1997-2005 era.

If he can win the UCL in addition to one or two league titles, it will be better than the 1997-2005 era.

Yet more inconsistent garbage. So on your previous post uve stated about 2 PL titles in next 4-5 years (see below), yet your post above says couple in 8 years. The fact uve moved the goalposts in space of a few hours is embarrassing. Then your rambling on as though 2 PL titles would equal that era utter garbage.

Screenshot_20230915_170318_Chrome.jpg

Arsenal never finished below 2nd place between 98 and 2005.

3 PL titles (2 PL and FA Cup doubles)
4 FA cup wins (between 2001 and 2005 they were runners up, winners, winners, semi final, winners)

Also in an invincible seasons.

And again you think 2 PL titles in 8 years, as you changes in from 4/5 years will match the list I gave 🤣🤦‍♂️.

Keep embarrassing urself with your flip flops and criteria. Arteta won't be in charge for 8 seasons, the owners will see sense with this bottle job eventually.

Keep the comedy up, what's next 2 PL titles in 15 years.

Your harp on about wenger not getting to a CL final between 97-05. Yet Arteta has had his pants taken down in europa League 3 times and cudnt even make a final. His record in cups since winning FA cup had been embarrassing.

Yet again your fraudulent flip flop nonsense exposed.

Keep twerking for mediocrity.

Fraudeta isn't in same league as GG or AW.

@Mamoon

98-2005 - 7 Trophies, 3 PL, 4 FA cups (5 FA cup finals)

And according to you 2 PL in 8 years would equal that 🤣🤣🤦‍♂️

You literally have left off with embarrassing bhangra twerking over hyped nonsense. You clearly still licking your non-healed wounds from last season.

Oh and before you start more twerking 07/08 (title race) and 08/09 (CL semi final) - Arsenal had a younger team then current one, before you start a "this is best young team around" bhangra.

I will take you to school and give you a lesson over your current comparison nonsense.

Arsenal upcoming Premier League fixture away to Newcastle United has been rescheduled. It will still be taking place on Saturday, November 4 but now the kick-off time is 5.30pm, having previously been set for 3pm.

Everton at Goodison Park…

Arsenal’s kryptonite.

I think Arsenal will break the curse and win there this time.

Arsenal record in Northwest is pathetic in general. In premier league last 7 seasons.

Everton (away) - won 1 drawn 1 lost 5
Liverpool (away) - drawn 1 lost 6
Man city (away) - lost 7
Man utd (away) - won 1 drawn 3 lost 3

Overall - won 2 draw 5 lost 21

If Arsenal come away from Goodison without injuries and 3 points, this would be a great achievement.

Im going for a draw and 2 injuries.

Declan is a big physical and defensive upgrade on Partey, so should give us a bigger edge in midfield at Goodison.

Rice will be ideal for this game but oddegard / havertz or Vieira will just get bullied due to lack of physicality.

This is a game for jorghino and RIce to play together, but doubt it will happen.

Not this nonsense again.

Winning league titles in 1997-2005 was much easier than it is today or will be in a few years.

You just had to compete with Fergie’s United who would get blown away by Pep’s City and even Klopp’s Liverpool. The level of football is very high these days. The mid-table and bottom half teams were a joke back then because they all had to rely on local players and some very mediocre foreign players who came for pittance.

Gone are the days where managers with no proper tactics can succeed. Madrid is probably the only last example where the method of signing top players and just letting them play is still working.

Late nighties and early noughties English football was a two horse race and money wasn’t a massive factor. Arsene inherited a top defense and was able to build on it.

He didn’t perform any miracles by winning titles in that era and the fact that he never won a UCL with that team goes against him. A tactically stout manager would have won a UCL with the 2001-2005 Arsenal team.

Arsene’s biggest achievement - and something he deserved utmost credit for - was keeping Arsenal afloat as a top 4 club from 2007 to 2013 with a shoestring budget.

In those 6 years, he had no money to spend at all and he still managed to keep Arsenal in the UCL which was massive for the club’s future.

Arteta has taken charge of Arsenal at a very difficult period where the PL is as its most competitive in history.

Almost all the clubs in the top half of the table can flex their financial muscle now and can sign players that only few years prior were exclusive to the top 4/top 6 clubs only.

Arsene would have won nothing in this era because he would no longer have dibs on the best French talent coming through and he would get tactically outwitted.

Based on how difficult it is these days and the level of competition, 2 PL titles and a UCL final appearance will certainly match the 1997-2005 period.

Only nonsense here is you dismissing Wengers achievements just so you can twerking and hype up Fraudeta's mediocrity like some loved up teenager.

Winning 7 trophies in that time period was good achievement.

But according to your bhangra standards bottling it at back end of 3 seasons running and being trophyless is harder.

Comedy at its finest.

You want to beat your chest over Arteta that much here's ah idea.

If Arsenal don't win the PL title this season you leave PP forever and never post again. If they do I will retire from PP.

Let's see how confident you are whether your continue to be a fraud

You keep on harping on about tactics, yet Arteta has been found to have made tactical blunders at end of last 3 seasons and bottled a Europa league semi final, top 4 race and title.

Same manager got schooled in europa league for his poor tactics.

Your making out as though he's tactically brilliant and will win a CL.

🤣🤦‍♂️

So based on continual failure and nothing but some weirdo Arteta fetish you think he's going to win CL 🤦‍♂️

This is a football thread, not stand up comedy.

Arsenal and Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey, 30, might be sold in January with Juventus a potential destination. (Football Insider)

Arsenal are close to agreeing a new four-year contract with Norway midfielder Martin Odegaard, 24, worth more than £200,000 a week. (Football Insider)

Raya, Vieira and Eddie start

Very interesting team selection.

I can see why Raya has been given a chance. Ramsdale has been up and down over the last few months.

Good to see Havertz finally on the bench. But I would’ve preferred Jorgino for the physical presence in midfield. If Vieira ends up playing well and it helps Arsenal score more goals then fair enough.

Eddie vs Jesus is a tough one. Jesus is undoubtedly a better player but he doesn’t think nor does have the instincts of a number 9. He’s a natural winger. Eddie has done well so far with 2 goals in 4 PL games and he’s got the hunger you need for a centre forward so hopefully he’ll be on the scoresheet today.

Selling Partey wouldn’t be a bad decision if we get a decent fee. He’s too injury prone and I don’t think he’s the type of guy you need when it comes to hold your nerve at the end stage of a title race.

Declan Rice is a major upgrade on him. He can actually handle the pressure and expectation of a big club player. He should be captain of the team.

Odegaard’s leadership goes missing when the team is under the cosh.

Partey goes to Afcons in January So if he is sold then, we need another top quality midfielder in January.

Jorginho would have been better option I agree as you look at the Everton midfield 3 it's a very physical line up. We can't get bullied again in midfield here.

Need an early goal here to put Everton under pressure

Started well Arsenal.

Now giving the ball away cheaply.

HT 0-0

Really need to improve cutting edge in final 3rd, a few times Eddie's made a run into space and not getting ball into him quick enough.

At somepoint Everton will get chances in this game.

Beautifully worked goal.

Lovely technique to finish that on the half-volley

No game time again for ESR. Tomiyasu and team mascot on. Playing with 10 men for rest of the game.

Really sloppy play on edge of box, can't be giving Everton ball there. Very lucky

Job done.

Don't have to win pretty all of the time.

Arsenal were solid at the back and gave Everton nothing.

One piece of great skill for the goal.

Impressive stuff from Arsenal.

Everton hoodoo over.

Good 1-0 win. Trossard was excellent when he came on

Huge NLD next

Another brilliant victory.
Everton is not an easy place to go to especially for us.... so to come away with three points is exactly what we needed.

Raya looks classy

Arsenal now have 13 points from 5 games, similar like Tottenham and Liverpool.

Another outstanding display by Declan Rice, dominated the midfield against Everton’s physical hoofballers.

BuT wHaT hAs He dOnE aPaRt fRoM tHe LaTe GoAL vs UnItED? :klopp

Long rant criticizing “Fraudteta” shall stay in the drafts for a week. Don’t worry, your time will come again.
Keep twerking and changing ur opinion every day like your underwear. You still haven't grown a pair of balls or got any conviction to nonsense you spout. Dismissing wingers achievements as easy and twerking for trophyless season.

Come back when you stop acting like a coward and can actual stick to an opinion for more then a few hours.

Excellent win. Goodison Park is our bogey ground.

Good to see Arteta ditch Havertz. Great finish by Trossard, made that look easy.

I would take 4 wins out of 5 at this stage but one thing we need to do better is goal scoring. We've only scored 9 goals. That's the fewest by any of the top 7 sides.

Playing out of back was more fluid with Raya his short passing and long range is better then ramsdale.

The 2 CBs were excellent as well, not playing both at start of season was just plain dumb.

Drafts? You mean the same copy paste nonsense they bore everyone with. Then dissapear once your wiping egg off face.

You still licking your open woulds from last season "it's in the bag"

That's why you cowardly predicted Arsenal to finish top 2 as your chest beating is a scam as you have zero confidence Arsenal will win title so uve made a coward cop out prediction

Goal scoring is something that hasn't been a problem for us, across two decades...

I'm sure we'll be putting them away more frequently as the season progresses.

I'd like to think so but truth be told with the CFs we've got, we aren't going to score enough goals to win the PL this season. I think the 9 goals we've scored in 5 games is a reflection of that.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, speaking to Sky Sports: "We talked about it, this is the challenge. For six years we haven't won here and there are a few reasons for it.

"It's how you do things and the input you do in every single action. I think we played an incredible game, we kept them quiet and created many, many chances, The first (disallowed) goal, as well, should be allowed. We dominated the game and we are extremely happy to go away with a win and a clean sheet."

On the injury to Martinelli: "He felt something in his hamstring so he will need to be assessed."

On what was different from previous defeats at Goodison Park: "We took the game into the areas we wanted for long and we were really solid. We gave very, very little away. They haven't created a single chance. It's about intelligence but also about the fight."

On Trossard's goal: "Great finish. He did it in the week with Belgium as well. It's what we need - the players who came in did very well, the subs that came on did very well. We need everyone on their toes and we fully trust them."

On his side's use of short corners: "Obviously they are very strong in the box so we need alternatives. It's about creating a story in the game and the players have to sense when is the best moment to do it."

Spurs were very defensive last season under Conte. It'll be interesting to see how Ange how approaches the NLD next week. But yes I do expect it to be more open and therefore lead to more goal scoring opportunities.

As much I like with what I'm seeing from Fabio Vieira. I don't think you can start him and Odegaard in the same team. Their profile is too similar (physically and technically).

Savvy? Arsenal hadn't won at Goodison park for 6 years.

Law of averages dictate Arsenal were due a win, nothing to do with Arteta, but simply a fluke win.

Fantastic win and crucial 3 points. Everton didn't have a single sniff. Saliba, Gabriel and especially Rice were outstanding once again. To dominate a physical battle of a midfield alongside Vieira and Odegaard, Declan is an outrageous footballer. And a beautiful finish from Trossard too.

Roll on Champions League.

Another interesting line from Arteta...

====================================================================

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta revealed he "regrets" not trusting his instincts to change goalkeepers during games in the past after dropping Aaron Ramsdale on Sunday.

Late to the party but a good controlled performance. I think we will start increasing the margin of victory soon.

Have to say so far this season the change in the way Arsenal play has made them more controlled in the sense that the chance creation of the opposition is quite low.

I believe we will click soon and be more fluent once Jesus starts games.

I am concerned about Zinchenko at LB. When in midfield his passing is useful but yesterday a few times his hollywood passes were breaking up attacks. Bit like Bruno in the sense when it comes off it looks brilliant but there are lots of failed ones inbetween. He has always been a liability defensively. Suppose we are stuck with him.

Champions League next with a Rampant PSV with a 100% record in the league the last time I checked.

Aaron Ramsdale: Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta plays down replacing England keeper with David Raya

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has played down his decision to replace England goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale with David Raya against Everton on Sunday.

Raya, who joined on loan from Brentford this summer, started his Premier League debut for Arsenal in their 1-0 win.

Ramsdale played in all 38 of the Gunners' league games last season.

"It's the same rationale that Fabio [Vieira] played here or Eddie [Nketiah] played instead of Gabriel Jesus," Arteta said.

"I haven't had a single question on why Gabriel Jesus hasn't started and he's won more trophies than anyone, including me, in that dressing room.

"I cannot have two players like this in one position and not play them. David has tremendous qualities like Aaron has, like Karl [Hein] has, but we have to use them you know."

Arsenal will make their first Champions League appearance since the 2016-17 season against PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday before playing Tottenham in Sunday's north London derby.

Arteta suggested he will continue to rotate Ramsdale and Spain's Raya and added there had been previous occasions during his Arsenal tenure when he wanted to switch goalkeepers mid-match.

"I didn't have the courage to do it. But I'm able to take a winger, or a striker, or a central defender or to drop to a five and hold that result," Arteta said.

"We drew those games and I was so unhappy.

"Why? Why not? [change the keeper]. We have all the qualities in another goalkeeper to do something when something is happening and you want to change momentum. Do it. Now my feeling is to get everybody engaged in the team. They have to play, regardless of the competition. We have to do it."

As much I like with what I'm seeing from Fabio Vieira. I don't think you can start him and Odegaard in the same team. Their profile is too similar (physically and technically).
The 2nd number 8 position is definitely where the club needs an upgrade. Vieira is decent at best. Havertz a useless donkey and ESR should have been let go (not that I wanted him to leave) as Arteta has no interest in developing him as a player.

With partey to injury prone to we need another top midfielder signed in January.

I hope ESR plays tomorrow with Odegaard as our 2 x CAMs. He deserves an opportunity and we need to rotate with the congested fixture list and tough run of PL games coming up.

Partey is not only injury prone but also cannot be trusted to deliver when the teams him too. Declan Rice is mentality monster and is built different.

I cannot wait for Arsenal to get rid of Partey and I'm sure it'll happen in January where we'll also find a suitable replacement.

As for Arsenal "scapped another win"

Arsenal had a goal unjustly disallowed and didn't let Everton have a sniff at our goal. Some top notch analysis from the Alum Rock armchair critic once again.

Defensively it was our best performance of the season apart from am almost sloppy moment from Rice at the end which gave Everton a chance. Otherwise we controlled game well.

Going forward there is still a lack of fluidity and seem more intent on keeping ball for to long then creating chances.

There is no reason why Partey should be sold unless he really pushes for a move.

Partey is a top player but he couldn’t be relied upon as a guaranteed starter because of his injury problems. I think like a lot of African players he is an age-fudger. He might be a lot old older than his official age.

Nonetheless, you can’t ask for a better backup to Rice. In fact, Arsenal’s depth for the number 6 (DM) position is the best in the world. Rice, Partey and Jorginho. There is no reason to tinker with it.

To replace Partey’s quality, Arsenal will have to spend at least £40m and that money can be better utilized elsewhere.

I think Partey is overrated and mentally weak. He showed that at the end of last season. Takes too much time on the ball and ends up misplacing one too many passes.

If we get £30m, let’s cash in on him and give him a good complimentary kick in the backside.

Declan Rice is the real deal. He’s a natural leader in the team who’ll do what he can to get involved to help the players around him. Always gets good positions.

Jorginho is a good backup to Rice and we can use the £30m to buy another DM who’s going to actually stay fit.

We also have Elneny as a 4th choice DM.

Partey wanted to leave in the summer but looks like he didn't want to go to Saudi and Juve offer was pathetic.

He's out now probably until after the man city game, plus he will be gone for most of January to possibly mid Feb for Afcons. With that happening baring any league Cup games Arsenal are likely to having playing Rice all the time. At somepoint that will take its toll. We've seen Saka burn out already season after season.

Arsenal are now going to start playing two games a week pretty much until December, which means the team will Need to be rotated well and players like jorghino will need to do a job. Elneny isn't good enough, don't matter what choice he is, Arsenal's dropping of cups and pathetic performances won't be tolerated this season. So Any player coming in needs to do a job.

Arsenal should have spent the money they wasted on dog turd havertz on lavia or khudus as that would have benefitted the midfield more.

With no partey or elneny in January to mid Feb. We would be left with just Rice and jorghino for a busy time of season. Usually there is the FA Cup 3rd n 4th rounds, league Cup semi finals etc..

We already saw Arteta make a dogs dinner of things in cups last time we lost players to Afcons. We didn't win a single game in January.

So I agree the club should be looking at at least 1 midfielder in January and another in the summer. Elneny will probably get a coaching role at club. Partey n jorghino aren't going to be at club much longer nor are they going to improve as platers. We don't have luxury of playing reserves in Europa league or cups this season.

Next 3 Arsenal signings should be Another 2 midfielders and an elite striker.

Dont forget Gareth Southgate likes to play both Saka and Rice majority of the time for England in pointless qualifies and Friendlies.

We need adequate deputy to Rice/Partey. Jorg is ok but like said above he aint gonna get better. Mo Elnenny has not played for over a year now so god knows what state he is in. He is fine for cup games. Lokonga should have been that guy but the less said about him the better. There is a reason he is a Luton of all places.

We needed 2 midfielders this season and just got the 1. I would have said we needed 2 even before Granit left.

Toney rumours are hotting up for January. I would really like Ferguson of Brighton to be priority but that means next summer and dealing with Brighton.

I do think Jorg will do well for us in the group stages of Champs league. But really need to move quick in Jan with AfCon etc

Yeah good point on Southgate flogging Rice and saka like dead horses.

There are still holes in this squad which urgently need filling.

Defensively we have saliba, Gabriel, kiwor, White, tomayiassu and crychenko. The last 2 are injury liabilities and with Timber out for so long Arsensl now has to get through 4 competitions with 6 defenders, 2 of which can't stay fit.

Return to the Champions League is tonight. Definitely Arteta will pick the strongest team, with Trossard for Martinelli and Jesus for Nketiah.

Toney is the finished article, waiting for the chance to play in a top team where he'll explode. He's clinical in front of goal, strong, can hold the ball up, got a top mentality. 20 goals and 4 assists in a middling Brentford side, he would be unreal for us surrounded by Odegaard, Saka, Martinelli etc.

Of course Ferguson is an unbelievable prospect, but at this stage I'd rather a player who will come in and perform right away, instead of having to develop. Plus Toney would be cheaper too.

Champions league return

God I missed these beautiful evenings!

Yep Arsenal need the finished article. Spending 100M plus on a striker from Brighton who is still unproven would be stupid.

Toney is cheaper like you mentioned and already proven over a longer time period.

Raya remains in goal

Dog turd back in midfield

So end of Ramsdale?
No I think he will play plenty of games this season.

He was poor though end of last season and hadn't been great this season either. Hopefully when he does play again he will improve.

There are other players in squad like ESR getting zero game time, while other players who have been rubbish most games they have played and keep getting picked.

Artetas so called picking players on merit or in fair manner is hit and miss.
