play out starc and cummins in the first 10, then the rest of bowlers are mediocre.

its the mental barrier over aus, against eng we win, eng will beat aus.

Yeah pretty much. Coulter Nile has been whooped by everybody, Zampa is no better than Adil Rashid and we've been smacking him for the last month. Stoinis is bad as well.

It’s raining everyday in Taunton from Monday to Saturday. No point, Another wash out pending.

Which forecast are you looking at? It has cleared up nicely as per bbc weather. Only 27% chance of rain

Saw it on BBC too, Just saw it again now and it’s all changed.

Good for me as well as I’m actually going too the game :faf

Strong team, weak team - all of these are useless talk when it comes to Pakistan.

I agree with him that Pak will loose to Aus, but that will be more due to psychological issue as Pak always find it hard to beat Aus.

They can't win consecutive matches against top teams, they will cause upset once in a while then go back to their usual mediocrity. Aus is gonna win and win big.

We have beaten them at least 3 times in WC. In 2011 it was PAK that ended their terrific WC streak. The thing is of the PAK team wants to be part of this WC they HAVE to win this game.

I fully back them to bring their A game.
Weather looks much better as well.

Amir and Wahab to bring pace and fire.
Inshallah we will win this one and march on!

Seriously as an Indian you should be the last one talking about the PAK team and winning matches against the good sides.

This PAK team is fully capable of doing so. They know they have it in them, wnning a major trophy helps as you always carry that with you.

AUS is strong but they have their weak links and both the WI and INDIA have shown that.

Cant see pakistan making another 350, which is really the only way to beat Australia too. Australia doesn't have the skills they had in the past, but still have the grit. They can scrape to 280ish from any position.

If you guys think Australians are easily defeatable then you people are making wrong decision.
Pak lack bowlers who can handle middle overs. Need to work on that.

I will say this again. Australia is hurting which is a bad news for Pak. Warner is gonna explode next game and in the process, denting the confidence of Amir and Co. Get your excuses ready chaps....

If the next match wash out, Pakistan will be in good position with 4 points in 4 matches and England, Australia and NZ done. Now Pakistan just has to beat BD and Afg, and get at least one match from SA/India/WI.

Overall, Pakistan would have probably taken 4 points from first 4 matches at the beginning of tournament.

Tie Breaker for teams with equal points :
1) Number of Wins
2) NRR

If Pakistan is tied at 10 with Team X, Pakistan will miss out because team X is at 10 with 5 wins and Pakistan at 10 with 4 wins.

So Pakistan needs another 4 wins even if this match is abandoned or if Pakistan lose this match.

Only a win here will mean that Pakistan needs 3 more wins, otherwise 4.

we also handled Mitchell starc pretty well, the only bowler that might trouble us is pat Cummins.

Pakistan team practice at County Ground Taunton

Not a good news.
Looks like another washout. During the match hours the probability of rain is more than 60%.

I feel like Pakistan hasn't even played in the world cup yet . .
1st game only 34 overs
3rd game washed out . .

So many days on the side and not playing competitive, watching other teams compete can be frustrating and can have an adverse affect on performance! We needed games after the win against England . . Can't control the weather . . Hope to see a good game on Wednesday!

This is becoming an irrelevant thread as the game is looking likely to be abandoned.

sorry guys but I live in the uk from Nottingham and the weather this week will be a pain it's looking very likely that it will be another washout on Wednesday as the weather in Taunton is very bad this week according to weather reports very much likely that it will be washout

BBC has now raised the rain prediction to 80 to 90 percent so another wash-out likely. Flood warnings have been issues across the UK.

Can you please tell me that how is the weather in Bristol now practically? Tomorrow our match is there so I am worried

Why are Pak playing in Taunton, they hardly ever play international cricket there, the capacity is only 6500.

Maybe they should have started the world cup a bit later, with all this rain.

Not sure if the game is happening but Australia after losing to India will come hard. We will really have to play our top game similar to what we did against England. Any lack of intensity will come back to bite us.

why people are cursing a washout here, I think a win would be ideal but realistically we would lose so 1 point is great for us and will mean 4 point, it's like we won from NZ and lost from Aus, but anymore washout after Australia can make it tough for Pak, but here it is 2nd best outcome. we will need to win 4 from our next games but even 3 can do it considering other results and washouts for other teams. Still its wide open

Tell the players to stay indoors, a flood warning has been issued. Oh wait, I can see shadows & blue skies in the pictures, did they move to dubai for practice session?

Ah! Forecast now looks terrible! Rain prediction have been moved up to ~80% and flood warnings have been issued. Probably a washout.

Looking like a washout this week. Might be good for us against Australia..the India match might also be a washout but I hear Sunday maybe a clearer day..but we could be in for a rain interrupted day and thus DL Method.

A short game should suit PAK, but looks like a wash-out. A curtailed DWL game probably suits Aussies better, because their players will adopt revised playing conditions better than PAK players. But, looks like a wash out again, and they might not even get the chance to toss.

A PAK-AUS game should have been staged in a bigger, better venue.

whats the point in hosting world cup, july/aug would have been ideal conditions, but they decided june/july.

This is going to the mist disgusting world cup .Teams like Pakistan will suffer due to rain and can miss semifinal. English board and ICC is to blame

It is likely that our match against Srilanka is a likely wash out tomorrow.:((

Don’t know good or bad - a point is always better than zero. There will be other wash outs, therefore it might not be that costly. At the end, for SF qualification boys have to win one of IND, AUS and make sure at least 6 points from other 4 games. That wash out makes it at least 3 wins out of six and a point from some other washout.

lol what India is one of the top sides in ODI cricket and have won series in NZ, Aus and SA recently. Pakistan have lost in all of these places and even lost home series against these teams. Fact is Pakistan is a weak team who can have a few good games here and there but never sustain it. Hence post winning 17 CT lost badly in NZ and Asia cup in the next year.

Boys don't worry. Zoom into the radar on bbc for taunton on weds. Looks like we will get away

Mate. That is not how it works.
More times than not, the the radar shows no rain but it actually rains.
Trust the forecast more than the radar.
The forecasters are not dumb

But we are likely to earn full points against SRL if the game takes place. If we can't beat them we won't be able to beat India,Australia

Ask Rohit Sharma, Dhawan and King Kohli and they will give you the answer.

It is better to leave this thread as it is a Pakistani vs Australia pre-match discussion thread.

We are not talking about India vs Pakistan.

Coulter-Nile faces nervous wait ahead of Pakistan clash

London: Australia are facing a selection quandary heading into their World Cup clash against Pakistan on Wednesday after India exposed a lack of sustained punch with the ball.

Fast bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile faces another nervous wait as the defending champions head to Taunton for the fourth match of their campaign.

Coulter-Nile claimed his first wicket of the tournament in the 36-run loss to India on Sunday and rebounded well, having conceded 14 off his first over, finishing with 1-63. But the concern for the Australians is that if frontline quicks Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins do not strike with the new ball, or when they are brought back for short spells, the attack lacks conviction.

Paceman Marcus Stoinis (2-62 off seven overs), leg-spinner Adam Zampa (0-50 off six overs) and Glenn Maxwell (0-45 off seven overs) all failed to have a major impact against admittedly one of the most potent batting line-ups in the world. But if Australia want to defend their crown, they almost certainly will need to find a way through India and the hard-hitting England.

Australian captain Aaron Finch could not guarantee Coulter-Nile's spot, meaning left-armer Jason Behrendorff - who was firmly in the mix to play against India - Kane Richardson and off-spinner Nathan Lyon will be considered.

"Yeah, you look at all scenarios, all team make-ups, especially for the opposition, and being a World Cup and you're playing a different side every game, you have to keep reassessing the best combination for each game," he said.

"I think that going into Pakistan we'll have a look at it again, no doubt, which we have been every game, and we felt as though that was the right combination today. That's just one of those things that comes down to match-ups with the opposition."

Coulter-Nile understands he is in the team to take wickets but he can be a match-winner with the bat, as he was against the West Indies at Trent Bridge. That can help to give him the edge at selection but Australia know they cannot continue to rely so heavily on Starc and Cummins. As former England captain Mike Atherton wrote in The Times on Monday, Starc carries a "heavy burden".

Statistics also show Australia have had the worst fourth and fifth bowling options since the last World Cup in terms of leaking runs, while in this tournament Australia have conceded 70 overs of more than a run a ball - only Bangladesh have been worse.

Jhye Richardson, had he not hurt his shoulder in the United Arab Emirates, or Josh Hazlewood, who will tour England with the Australia A squad, would have filled the third paceman's role had they been fully fit at the time the 15-man Cup squad was announced last month.

David Warner has made a curious start to the tournament, where he has looked to take more of a role as an top-order plank than embrace the turbo-charged mode that had made him one of the most feared weapons before his suspension.

The type of pitches and conditions on offer have played a role in this, but Indian skipper Virat Kohli said he felt the Australian top order had not looked to attack the boundary, preferring to nudge the ball around more often early in their innings.

Warner finished with 56 off 84 balls, including the slowest half-century of his career, off 77 balls, breaking his own slow record from his half-century against Afghanistan last weekend, which came off 74 balls.

The Australians do not boast the power hitters of some of their rivals, so they have opted to look to preserve wickets then hit out late. However, strong starts are still needed - and Warner is best equipped to deliver that for Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith work the ball around more - so as to avoid the run-rate ballooning into double figures, as it did against India by the 32nd over.

Finch said it hadn't been a plan to go slow when chasing 353 for victory.

"No, it hasn't been a plan, a team plan or an individual plan for David. I think they [India] bowled really well early. They bowled nice and straight, back of the length, where the ball was just skidding quite low to start with, and to myself, as well, they just didn't give us any width to get away or any length to really work with, either over the top or get a drive away," he said.

The robust skipper had been in good touch until he was run out for 36 in a mix-up with Warner.

Finch also explained why Zampa had repeatedly put his hands in his pockets before he bowled, banishing suggestions it was something untoward.

"I haven't seen the photos, but I know that he has hand warmers in his pocket. He has them every single game he plays," he said.

"I honestly haven't seen them, so I can't comment too much on it. But I know for a fact that he has hand warmers every game."

Pathetic decision from ICC to organize this tournament in June. This is such a farce, we wait 4 years for this cup and then half the matches get rained out.

I think this will be stop start game at best. Pakistan in such a scenario need to play aggressive, this is a must win game for Pakistan imo.

Pathetic to play on a club level ground this games should have been played at Oval Lords Edgbaston Old Trafford Leeds

Another washout looming this is getting horrible
So we will have 4 points after 4 games
India and new Zealand became a must win now

You want to be reminded of the last time Pakistan brought two top teams to it's knees, when the world was watching? :amir2

Bloody hell!! My in laws are coming and that match is my only ray of hope for that weekend :dw:danish:ssmith

Dont worry bro,it will be an passing shower , nothing serious .My cousins will be also watching the match and they live in Manchester ,they dont seem to be bothered by the rain predictions.

2 matches washed out. This one will be washed out as well? If more matches wash out they better cancel the world cup. This is not the fair way to decide.

That's straight forward catching. I am not sure why is he not having him set up for catches away from his body a bit, so that he can have a shot of catching in real matches.
