Matthew Prior. How elegant and lovely a batsman is he at the crease? Shouldn't he just play as a specialist batsman?

A full house - jam packed 'state of the art' stadium

300+ runs (possible 330 at close of play) at 4RPO

5 wkts (possibly more by close)

What else do you guys want???

more 20/20, really missing it!

Great counterattacking innings from these two. England back on level terms now and pressing home the advantage

mighty mighty ENGERLAND!

these guys have really put pedal to teh metal here

awesome stuff!

Flintoff out to just a rubbish ball from a rubbish team. Bad shot and should have hit that for four.

Finally! Flingtoff chances his luck once too often, out for 37. Good knock though.

To be frank it was a wide half volley and was a garbage ball. It should have been four but Siddle was lucky to get a wicket.

Eng 328/6

2.4 overs left in day. England will be happy with their postion at moment.

silly time to loose a wkt - but how many times have we seen this happen in test cricket

Broad and Anderson have both been handy in the past, and it's not a bad score overall at the moment. Plenty of good little knocks in there. just enough there to keep our bowlers interested. 380+ would be excellent! something to play with on day two!

england will win this easy, embarrassing to see such a bad aus team, i think whatever happens england will have a 100+lead by the end of day2

A really good day's Test Cricket. Hard to say who's in the better position, probably Australia, but they've still got to go out there and score 350+ runs to prove that. England will be happy enough from where they were at Lunch to have managed this many runs with a bit of batting still to come through Broad and Swann.

I would love to agree, but Oz still have a few batsmen capable of big hundreds which would lift them to match whatever score we make. Going to need 4 or 5 days of hard graft and rub of the green to close out the win here. But I'm happy with the start, 330-7 is nearly as good as we made against them in 2005 batting first in the tests, and about as good as we could have hoped for. Looking forward to tomorrow :)

7/336 at stumps. Prior's wicket was crucial. We should be able to wrap this tail up and keep them under 400.

England may have lost 7 wickets but they have scored quickly and that advances the game some what. Broad and Swann can bat so 370-400 is still possible.

difference is this england attack is not quite as good as 2005

Hoggy 2005 <> Jimmy 2009
Harami 2005 > Broad 2009, but not by much
Fred 2005 <> Fred 2009
Jones 2005 >> Monty 2009
Giles 2005 < Swann 2009

I'd say it's close overall. If there is one area where 2005 team > 2009 team, it's that the 2005 boys had Simon Jones.

This Aussie side reminds me of their 1991 mob - powerful batting led by one world-class player; accurate, workmanlike bowling.

This aussie team will struggle. Pieterson got out to a ridiculous shot, Flintoff was unlucky. This Aussie team will struggle as far as keeping the run rate in control.

Kevinder was lucky too - he was out twice before we got him out.

I have a feeling Aus may regret going with Hilf over Clark by end of this match.

The Aussies batting line up has no one to fear in it and has no one who will take the game away from england in space of a session. In past Aussies had Slater, Hayden, Pointing (In his prime) and Gilly. All batsmen who could dominate and thrash an attack. Englands bowlers can make in roads into the Aussies batting and gain an advantage in this game with the Aussies having to bat last!

Aus is still a top batting lineup with Ponting, Clarke, Katich, Haddin and Hussey. A big 1st innings total is certainly not beyond them.

was at the game fantastic experiance although i must say did expect abit more from the crowd as it was their first test and i thought they would want to make an impression to the english boys but it wasnt bad at all. met aleem dar to very nice chap

I can see Swann ripping through the Aussies with 4 or 5 on this wicket. Expect an Aussie collapse.

They also have Panesar, who'll provide for some comic relief and a couple of hundred runs gift to Aussies. He's just so rubbish, unless he's picked up something significant overnight.

Neither side really on top, although if England can get to around 370 then they would be pretty happy as Australia will have to bat last on a turning pitch and having to face 2 spinners

Aus bowling was nothing special - Hilfenhaus looked pretty good.

Eng will have been dreaming of 450+ before Flintoff & Prior were sent packing late in the day.

Good day of test cricket then at Cardiff - The weather didnt spoil it which is good getting the whole 90 overs in and England making a good start scoring over 300 in the day! Good going by them!

Both Siddle and MJ looked short of practice - which they are.

Hilf was very good today. Ponting needs to learn not to bowl the spinners for 20 overs at a time.

Good day's play, honours even IMO

He won't learn. He is a dumb captain with good players.

Ponting was pretty dumb for making the bowlers bowl 90 overs in a day, he should have given each of the bowlers 5 overs each and bowled the rest himself. He is overbowling the bowlers.
