England v Pakistan | 1st Test | Lord's | Jul 14-18, 2016 | Day 1

20 minutes solid batting needed here, england session so far having taken 2 wickets!

Yeah, we have gifted two wickets on flat deck. Our openers are too easy to go through.... These two need to pay big innings... Nothing in the wicket [emoji19][emoji19][emoji19]

We are going to need 350-400 atleast on 1st inns so we need some big hundreds from our batsmen.

Ugliest boundary of the day, but still it's 4 runs. YK somehow manages to survive early overs & he is totally different player after 20s & 30s, opposite to MoHa.

All the more baffling because he's a decent puller of the ball. That shot is reminiscent of Nasir Jamshed in WC2015.

He's sometimes guilty of getting lazy with his footwork while playing certain shots. Against spinner while playing a late cut, he doesn't get back and tries to dab while being on the front foot.

It doesn't matter if a player like YK scores in an ugly fashion, he's keeping the scoreboard ticking and winning a Test match with this method of batting is always better than losing in style.

Eventually, Azhar'll need to move up, the earlier the better for PAK.

Where is Moin Bhai? Cook should gamble by bringing him and tempt Younis

YK is one of the most under-rated cricketers. Averaging almost 54 for 9K+ runs with a very balanced stat chart & he is one of the best ever on 4th innings. In fact, I think he averages close to 50 in every innings.

Well YK does not look like a classic batsman so is Misbah... His foot work and technique is not that polished against pace.

He is best player of spin in last decade or so, that's why he is so good in 4th innings. I have never seen a batsman who plays sweep better than him, he used crease so well against spinners, they loose their control even in forth innings. He has put entire Pakistan team on sweep. This is what is saving us all those 6 years in UAE [emoji6][emoji6][emoji6]

He is also the most fit batsmen played for Pakistan, he can play long innings tirelessly. Usually play big 100s because of his fitness... MoYo and Inzi were lazy.

Azhar Ali playing for lunch. Cook should give Moeen a couple of overs to tempt the batsmen

We need to keep wickets in hand till lunch don't need another wicket to fall before lunch.

At three down I will say its england session.

But if we keep it at 2 down its still in favour of england say by 40 60.

Finn bowling very full here and trying to sneak yorkers through which is a surprise.

U know Younis is in good touch when hes driving down the ground.

Finn'll miss the Old Traford & Edgebaston Test, probably better wickets for him. He is absolutely out of rhythm & looks like labouring to the bowling stride.

Might get back in rythm still a few days to go ago

Would you take that if that's offered ? Would think that'd be a decent platform to reach 350-400 for the following day.

I would take it, arguably our best batsmen might be at the crease

That was shot of the morning so far!

Class.

Whats more, he looks determined today, up for the challange.

TBH this is a great chance for Pak to get some confidance, easy pitch, no Jimmy, against an atack with a debutant, Finn out of sorts, Moin and Woakes (averaging 40 in tests)

Commentators discussing Imran's nightlife in his young days.

400 is absolute minimum on this pitch. Looks so similar to UAE; only thing encouraging for bowlers in a hint of swing and thats about it.

England bowling looks very unthreatening without Jimmy.

Finn has been disappointing. Suspect Wahab will do much better and support Amir.

This match is ripe for Pakistan's taking if only their batsmen show a little application and put on a 400 or above score.

Ball will swing regardless of the pitch.. provided the air is right for swing conditions. i.e. still air.

Yeah, cloud means air is still, with temperature in 60s, also means air is not too light, dense enough for swing, add 40+ percent humidity, which makes air more dense for ball to wipe through air, you have prefect conditions for swing bowling... Cloud cover also means wicket will hold moisture as well!!

Guys like Jimmy and Amir who can put extra back spin or wipe it in air, can use those conditions really well.... With Amir extra pace cause more wipe and late swing!!

Cook needs to take Finn off - he is wasting the semi new ball.
