It is not actually a green top but has tinges of green all over. They said in 1980s when Hadlee/Rice were playing here in county matches, the pitch was absolutely green.

We are in 2011 now and by todays standards this is a green top. Fairly thick patches of grass are covering the pitch. These average Indian bowlers are not looking like greats for no reason.

Indians still had to bat and look at their supporters.

Far better than some guy here who started thread congratulating Pakistani guys for supporting england all the way during first test and making them win.

Hahahahahahahahaahhahahahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahaah

Didn't expect anything from the match, been expecting to lose this one all year. The ground suits good subcontinental sides more than us for some reason - we lost here to Sri Lanka in 06 and India in 07. Definitely going to be a result so if we win, it's a bonus, just like Lord's. Edgbaston and the Oval were always our best chances to win.

I hope the tail hang arounds till the sun is out :P India might as well lose quick 2-3 wickets if they have to bat soon.

He's never really looked comfortable at test level and his average is poor. Right now he is not test class and him getting dropped is only a matter of time.

Cook and Trott having a laugh on the balcony. They know they can still come back in the game. A confident team these days, which England often have not been in the past - good to see.

Yeah, I saw him get minced up last year by Asif and Amir. That said, I really think Morgan might do well on Asian pitches, where England are touring later this year.

dint see any of you giving gyan about pitches when Amir and Asif where picking wickets here .

How does that matter?

It's worst bowling line-up. That's why some Indian PPers are acting like this unless you think that England batsman have batted very badly.

Does it matter what best bowling line-up does?

Whippy out of curiosity why do you guys play at this venue if its not good enough for you guys? Like England is not short of cricket stadiums..you can choose all 4 where you've the advantage...right?..so why pick those stadiums which can support the away team?

u will win here still

Btw, was it really worthwhile playing Harbhajan in the 11 this match, on this seaming pitch, after how he played last time? If I were Munaf I'd be crying in a corner of the dressing room

We don't play at this one every year if you've noticed. Nottinghamshire still holds enough influence and makes enough money to get test matches, and the ground is awesome - we just get knackered there now and again.

You need to educate yourself on the difference between the pitch and conditions. Headlingly against Australia was close to this but not the others. Aus were bolwed out for 88 in Leeds so any green type pitch for Amir and Asif is death for batsmen because they were special.

England are still batting and there goes a smashed pull for 4.

From cricinfo:

Well, Praveen has stormed up to Umpire Erasmus at the end of the over and asked to know why that wasn't given out. He really looks rather angry. I don't like the look of this, Harbhajan Singh had to push Praveen away from the umpire.

For anyone who saw this, what was PK upto here?

How playing venues are decided in England?

Do they have some rotational policy? I know BCCI has such policy, though I'm not sure how well it is implemented.

I don't agree with Whippy about this venue thingy, England are still favourites to win this test match imo.

four more!

It was a good call by the ump, but I think PK was angry over an earlier 50/50 decision that went England's way.

He started yelling and walking towards the umpire, his team mates tried to calm him down.

I'm a bit rubbish with this stuff, Big Harvey can fill you in.

Right now bhajji must be the happiest player out there.

Chris Broad doing his best to spoil Sreesanth's figures :P

Grounds in England bid for the right to host it, but they're often given guarantees that they can host a match during a series, etc etc. OT was given a nod that they might host an Ashes match next year, but in general they bid a certain amount that the ECB gets for letting them host.

1st session run rate 2
2nd session run rate 2
3rd session run rate 10 :/

Steady lads, steady! Remember the old poem:

Whatever happens, we have got
the Maxim Gun, and they have not.

Instead of the Maxim Gun we have the best FM swinger in the world, and two more very good ones. I reckon 180 could be a goodish score here.

Oh I still think we can win. I'm not a doom-mongerer today. Just trying to keep everyone's feet on the ground.
