England vs Pakistan | 2nd Test | Headingley, Leeds | June 1-5, 2018 | Day 3 | Match Thread

141 to avoid FO with 7 wickets in hand....

Need to cross this important hurdle first ... hopefully with the loss of not more than 1 wicket

No one is celebrating, but I think Pakistani fans deserve this humiliation for overrating the team after one win, and calling it the start of a golden era etc.

Fans of any sports team generally hold some hope for the future. Otherwise whats the point of following. Ask any fan of relegation fodder teams in football for example as to why they turn up weekly to watch their team get beat. Sure some fans can be pessimistic (a sort of defence mechanism for when let down by the team's performance) but deep down they do hope that their team turns it around and becomes more successful in the future.

What they don't do is say to fellow fans that they 'deserve humiliation' after one defeat. Why do you not want your fellow Pakistan fans to perhaps get a little carried away after significant wins (e.g. Lords Test, Champions Trophy) and dream a little about a brighter future after all its not like the fans influence PCB policy in any way so their optimism can't really affect the team in any negative way.

I notice you yourself get a little carried away after successful Indian & English performances. Even a couple of Jos Buttlers half centuries have got you comparing him to ABdV. How is this any different to Pakistanis being hopeful that Umar Akmal would become a world class batsmen after his early international career. Regardless of what happened to his career after that - This is not the fault of the fans who were perhaps overrating him (even respected pundits predicted he would achieve much more).

I dont know whats wrong with people, cricket is a game where if two good teams play both have equal opportunity to win or lose, though it was home ground of Eng and Pak demolished them in the first match. Now Pak is struggling it isnt a big deal, this is just one team playing better than the other in the match and especially on its home ground. Also dont forget the experience Eng side have in comparison to Pak.

I don’t remeber the last time a non subcontinental team winning a series in sub continent and a subcontinental team winning test series in Eng, Aus, SA or NZ. So Pak drawing the series in ENG in 2016 2-2 was a better performance than other teams of subcontinent and even in the current series, although the match is still going and even if Pak lose its still is a pretty good performance considering the track record of teams from sub continent.

Pak head to head has won more matches than England is last 6 years of so.

I like your attitude. That's how it should be.

Time to back the youngsters.

Just block out the two bullies, Anderson and Broad.

Keep it up guys! Don't let the bullies get in your head.

If we had lost 1 wicket this would have been a good start. Also we are playing positively against Broad and Anderson so we shouldn't have a problem scoring against Woakes and Curran.

If these two can take the lead off together and with Sarfraz, Shadab, Faheem and others to come. Pakistan can have an outside chance.

Thank you!

People forget that this team was supposed to lose 2-0; and they have already punched much above their weight by winning the first test.

Miracles have happened before in test cricket. Who knows... if they stay at the crease long enough, Mr. Rain may just arrive and save the game.. =)

With each ball they play out I am feeling happy for these young players. Show the world what you are all about and worked hard for.

lol i knew Azhar and Shafiq would fail us like always...useless cricketers.

They should plan in clusters, don't look at the 180 mark score but score first the 80, then 50 and 50. looking at smallers numbers can be more easy for the youngsters to bat with. And then hopefully with 4 wickets left score 125+ and let England bat again..

Azhar is by far the least dependable batsman we have... Atleast Shafiq has a couple of backs against the walls type innings when he used to bat at 6 under Misbah. Azhar is the king of easy runs.

However both should get notice from Mickey that they are skating on thin ice.

If there is one guy who has played clutch innings in domestic then that is Usman Salahuddin. Time to replicate 1 here? ,

A nine 151 ball 72 from Captain will be very handy today. Latest theory I read is, these 10s & 15s are because of SR of 75 - so, I have reduced demand for SR below 50 ........ must be easy now.

MashALLAH. Usman looking composed. Allah nazar e bad se bachaye. Ameen. Hope we are onto something here.

even if pakistan loose they have done well then whatbi expected so i l be happy with a drawn series

Woakes the destroyer on now so expect him to pick up 3-4 wickets

Wrong number, bro.

Two inexperienced youngsters on the crease. They are also inexperienced in getting crushed when the pressure is on.

Things have calmed down. Better from us. All this talk of our lack of experience. Our experienced players have let us down , it's the young players who have stepped up.

It was good that we were looking to score but you need to know which balls to score off and which to see off.

These useless tuk tuk are destroying our players abilities to play positively. Tuk tuk for 1 hour with 20-30 runs is useless in a match

These two newbies have lasted more balls than the two experienced players.

Never easy to bat with a 189 deficit. And they're doing fine tbh, a lot of other teams would capitulate to a 80/7 in such situations.

Its a third day pitch and it looks good to bat on. Regardless of the scoreboard pressure I dont think any major team would be 80/7.

Unless by a lot of other teams you meant ireland, afghanistan, and bangladesh.

In these foreign and difficult conditions and taking both innings into account:

Azhar Ali was able to last 43 balls.
Asad Shafiq lasted 53 balls.

Imam ul haq has so far successfully managed 63* balls.
Usman Salahuddin has successfully managed 55* balls.

The two inexperienced and newbies players have comfortably survived more balls than our most experienced batsmen. What would we be without the value these two experienced players bring to the team.
