Kohli confirms the debut of Jayant Yadav for Mishra and KR Rahul's return in place of gambhir

Gambhir kicked out, end of his career. He can tweet again, maybe next time he will be called up as a waterboy. Retire old man, you are competing against Dhawan & Rahul, both are miles ahead of you. :kami

Dropping Woakes would be lunacy given that he's been England's best bowler this year.......thats too harsh

Whilst Anderson is one of England's most successful bowlers since WW2 with an extremely good revord in Asia, not exactly the easiest choice! In the end though Woakes has bowled a lot of overs this year and he'd probably need a rest at some point.

Pujara averages 66.60 in India, He scored a double ton against Anderson, Broad and better set of spinners. I have a feeling he will score a daddy ton today :butt

He is very good in India, England hoping Jimmy will break this partnership.

Good job by Eng to get rid of both openers. Get 2 more wickets and game is on..

Your boy Rahul may make way for Dhawan if he is fit :))

First let's get something straight

1. You yourself admitted to me that you didn't even watch Dhawan and Rahul play frequently. You suggested Dhawan was a better performer bcos of his 187 when he averaged 20s in India after that innings (you didn't even know that and you confidently made that suggestion).

So don't know why you are gloating and laughing when you obviously haven't even watched the game and chose to argue with me that time.

2. Rahul is a star. He will be back.

Hehe.....not at all....:))

Its like making a joke of yourself and then claiming "hey I touched a nerve" to brush it off....

Whatever makes you sleep at night my friend.

Hypothetically speaking, even if Rahul flops and gets dropped, your premise is based on pure luck cos you were just winging it. Don't understand why you feel so strongly about something based on nothing. Haha.

I'm writing one liners in response to you mini walls of text, yet I'm the one 'feeling strongly'. Good one that :yk

Very good crowd on a weekday. If these 2 bat till lunch, we will see more seats full.

10 overs gone, 36/2. Ansari in.

The comms saying that the bowlers themselves have no idea of what each ball will do on this pitch, so every spinner is dangerous. Quite an interesting assertion that :13:

Just to correct you again....the "feeling strongly" was referring to your opinion about Rahul not being good enough about which you wrote quite a bit in the past including going to cricinfo and posting his stats and all before the WI series.

This is what happens when you don't pay attention to posts. :murali

Wrong. SA has been the best team against us in this format at home. Eng apart from the last series in 2012 has never won in India for 30 years.

Past results are irrelevant. I'm talking about last 5-6 years when we have lost 3 series to England(2 away and 1 at home) and this is the 4th series. In this period, nobody has bullied us like england have.

Where are those people who called this pitch a rank turner? Rashid is not even getting the turn he got in Rajkot :inti

First day impact or is this another batting beauty! :danish

Pretty much , we are turning into England's bunny now. Hope Kophi , Ashwin etc change this.

I'm watching Hotstar with 5 mins delay.

What the hell is with those dangerous singles between Pujara and Kohli?

Nasser Hussain rhetorically asked "Have these two batted together?" but on closer analysis you can see that Pujara and Vijay have had huge partnerships, as have Kohli and Rahane but not much overlap between these pairs...

Yeah, where is Zahid87 who was describing the deck pre-match with as much detail as one would describe the qualities of fine wine?

Rahul should reassess his temperament a bit. He is an opener in Test Cricket, but the demands of T20 & ODI Cricket impacted his batting a lot (which is good anyway for a modern day batsman). And he is not someone who opens in LOIs and come into bat in the middle order for Test Cricket. He should not model on people like Sachin, Kohli but should take a cue from people like Gavaskar, Haiden, Sehwag (Sehwag in his prime so beautifully adjusted to Test Cricket by blocking in the first few overs and then taking on after that). Actually Rahul can make it bigger than all these guys (I mean he can do better than Gavaskar in LOIs), so he should carefully understand the scenarios! He should maintain the fitness, consistency & become regular opener for all formats. It is OK for now (his early days, he is 24), but he should not leave it too late (it may slip out and has to be restarted again & again like Rohit, Rahane, Vijay, Pujara, etc)

England will try to slow down the game now with the seamers bowling wide outside the offstump playing on the batsman's patience.

India 83/2 (24.3 overs)

Pujara not out 32 (70)
Kohli* not out 31 (50)

Why you so careless Rahul?

@GharkaKohli सुबह का भुला शाम को घर आ जायें तो उसे भुला नहीं कहते| Awesome batting till now.

Pretty happy with that session tbh. Disappointed KL didn 't do much, was looking forward to see him bat :(

India's aim should be to bat as long as possible basically. The pitch looks like it has really loose top soil, so it's bound to break up at some point.

Always funny coming here and seeing the wrist-slitting from the usual suspects though. Long may it continue :41:

Who is the ' subah ka bhula' ?

The Indian openers would be disappointed on missing out on what is a good track to bat on. Both fell to very good balls though, Rahul a bit loose outside off on his comeback match while Vijay fell to a similar way in which he was bounced out by Gabriel in the West Indies. Vijay normally leaves short balls very well but should look to go more on the backfoot to such deliveries.

Suddenly the batting order looks a bit thin with the fall of two wickets. Kohli and Pujara need to stay through and build a big partnership. And less of clueless running by Pujara would help the Indian matters too.

The very fact that we have Ashwin coming in at #6 shows how shallow our line-up is.

India will win this one. Only chance England had was to bat first as they did in the first Test.

It's a gamble we have to take. I'm not sure we can rely on just 4 bowlers anywhere in the world because you never know when our bowlers go off the boil and start going through the motions.

Jayant is a competent batsman, so that would strengthen the lower order. But it's his debut match, so won't be surprised if the nerves get the better of him when he comes out to bat. These two should make the most of the partnership along with Rahane (who needs to stop looking clueless against gentle spin). We need to get 350+ here and 400 will be a position of strength.

Kohli will score two more double centuries in this series. One of them could very well be in this match. His average will be just short of 50 at the end of this series.

What's the record of most no.of double centuries in a year? I think it's Michael Clarke in 2011. Don't know how many he did.

With numbers 6,7,8 and 9 being competent lower order batsmen in Indian conditions, it's worth taking a risk and play 5 batsmen. Especially, when the opposition has a really long batting lineup themselves

Jayant Yadav is a competent test batsman? How do you know this?

All runs that Clarke scored in the conditions in question that year (bar perhaps that 150 in SA in the 47 all out game) have to be discounted by 75%.

For a debutant you obviously have to go by his first class record. Otherwise, you will have to assume that all debutants are incompetent.

Pay 150 Rs and watch without delay in Hotsar.

It's only ₹150 for a lifetime subscription?

how arre they possibly making money of such a low price

surely that cannot be profitable

i remember in WC 2015, the whoel freaking tournament was 150 indian rupees which is less than a dollar.

the vpn subscription i bought to use it without issues was like $8. I was wondering where does the profitability aspect come in
