What's new

India v England | 2nd Test | Visakhapatnam | Nov 17-21, 2016 | Day 1

Good day for India, they will be looking to get up to 500 as quickly as possible and then scoreboard pressure takes over and Indian spinners have the luxury of loads of men around the bat. After having India 22/2 england will be very disappointed with efforts come todays end of play.

I dont see England coming back into this one although I had thought the same in Mumbai, 2012 and we know how that turned out. Even if we collapse, we will get 400+ from here and thats plenty.

India needed the day to end now. It was only a matter of time before Ashwin was going to succumb to Anderson in the zone.

That's the problem with Ashwin batting at 6 and why he does not convince me as a Test batsman. I feel that he does not have the skill to resist a top class pacer in form, and this will hurt India especially overseas.

Its an issue of temperament more than skill imho. Hardly looks troubled for like 90% of the time and then plays some stupid shots or gets into stupid positions 10% of the time and looks unconvincing.

A good WK and then him would look better. A good WK and a batting AR and then him would look even better.

Mubarak ho on all India PPers for Virat Kohli's hundred mA

India have batter very well, but this series will test whether India has the middle/lower order that can do well against better teams (with the caveat of 'flatter' pitches). From an Indian perspective, Ashwin onwards have the confidence of doing very well against Windies and New Zealand and should take that form against England.
From the English viewpoint, the batting order from Ashwin onward represents an opportunity. If they dismiss the batsmen at the other end cheaply they can still restrict India.

India should look to dominate this test.

Put 500 on board and knock English team under 300.

Ashwin has been impressive as a test batsmen but anything higher than no.7 position is asking for trouble IMO.

You need to play a 40+ averaging no.6 batsmen with a solid technique.

A quality wkt-keeper is what India need who can bat at 6 and Ashwin would do more than good for the no.7 position.

Top 5 is very solid in my opinion. Pujara is such a beast in Asia.He always scores if we are playing at home.

Kohli and Rahane are world class test bats too.

Saha is good enough for now. Pant is getting ready :yk3

Nah it isn't. I don't like to see Indian doing well unless they are facing SA or Australia, and England is my second favorite team so no it is not tough for me at all.

India in a very strong position to win the game. England will find it hard to bat on this pitch. It's already showing some spin and uneven bounce. Typical Indian pitch. Toss is very crucial in these pitches.

Kohli must score a double if India were to cross 500.

Also one of Ashwin/Jaddu must score a 50 with the rest of the tail contributing 20 runs each.

How is Jayant Yadav as batsman? Is he any good?

He has a batting average of almost 30 in FC.

Huge challenge for England here. The next 2 days will measure how good they really are - or not!!

If Kohli scores a 200 today, he will only be the Third Batsman to do so in calander year, along with Bradman and one other gentlemen !!!! Some company.

Pakistan got lucky in England. Anderson was hampered .by his shoulder and he was not at his best.

Yes Pakistan played him well, but he was at his usual best either. His pace was down compared to his normal speed and he was bowling within himself.

He got injured at the wrong time; he was in imperious form vs SL earlier in the summer and he would have won England an additional Test if he wouldn't have been troubled by his shoulder.

You really love hyping and talking about other teams players, but dismiss our own like they make runs by luck.

No we were not lucky against England, in fact it was the other way round. We should have won 3-1, and they were lucky that we threw away one of the tests after we had a 100+ lead after the halfway stage.

And going by that logic, they were also lucky Amir has been out for 6 years or he would have tore them apart again.

English spinners weren't bad in Rajkot, but today England fans' fears were realised. There was a lack of control. They just cannot seem to bowl tight and build up the maidens.

Ansari was poor with too many long hops and Ali, whilst it took ages before Cook introduced him, went at 4.5 RPO.

England must somehow get to parity or as close to it. People are saying the pitch will turn from lunch tomorrow but so far its slow turn. If they can stay within touch of India's 1st inns, and the pitch deteriorates then their spinners can come into it and maybe induce a collapse in India's 2nd innings. Anderson's bowled well so far.

However if they concede a 100+ lead then forget it.

They bowled 100% of their overs with Indian batsmen under the pump.

Plus from Day 3.

Also cricket is a game where small actions can have big results.

If Pujara had reviewed the DRS, who knows India may have ended up that test with 170-2. Or we could have lost too if Kohli hadn't held his nerve.

Ali and Ansari wickets were all fluke last game (but they did bowl tight) however Rashid was class and bowled well.

Personally don't see this pitch being all that tough to bat. Indians may have to toil hard too when bowling I think.
