Liverpool agree £125m Isak deal with Newcastle

Liverpool have agreed a £125m fee with Newcastle to sign Alexander Isak.

Sources close to the deal have told BBC Sport that an agreement for the Sweden international to join the Anfield club is now in place.

Isak will undergo a medical on Monday ahead of signing a six-year deal at the club.

Liverpool had an original £110m offer rejected earlier this month but they are now set to land their first-choice target of the summer.

Liverpool looks like they will get isak and gheui deals done, that's not good for rest of PL

Just read in a local paper here that Liverpool are paying £125M for Isak and the medical is shceduled later today, according to David Ornstein 😳 @KingKhanWC @Geordie Ahmed

Yep he is already packing his suitcase, on his way to the champions. It makes sense for Newcastle to let go, they will earn a lot of money and can move on with their football. For Liverpool this is a huge signing, Isak is an elite striker now. We need him as when we took off Ekitike but didnt have any real class cover.

Liverpool really acting like the big club that they are and can only applaud their ambition.

One thing I dont wanna hear anymore is the City Bought the league rubbish. £430 million spent at the end of this window? I've never seen anything like it. I think they will/should be faves for the title now but I stick by Arsenal.

Just for the record, I don't have any issue with teams spending money due to them being a big club.

Pressure is on Arteta to deliver this season - but I would also say same with Slot. You don't spend that money as champions to not go back to back. Will be an interesting season.

Works out to be £130m with solidarity payments, maybe a bit more considering Isak will rightly not be getting his loyalty bonus

I actually don't feel anywhere near as bad as I thought I would

Maybe it's because I've been expecting this deal to happen so came to terms with it a while ago, I even said last week I think £120m plus some add ons gets the deal (I even said last month when players push for a move they mostly get it)

There is a lot of anger amongst our fans but for me it's quite simple, Newcastle United was there before Isak and it will be there after him

I'm not going to blame the club like I did when we sold Carroll to them. This is very different, this situation has been engineered by Liverpool, Isak and his agent from the start. And ultimately players do hold the main card, which is stepping on to that pitch.

His behaviour meant an exit was the right thing and exit this summer was the right thing. Yes, we could have held on for another 6/12 months but what would we have gained from that? An extra £15m/£20m? Which considering the distraction and the cloud that would followed through the season isn't worth that much

We have doubled our money on him, our PSR situation will be very healthy in the medium term, we can fully focus our energy on the players that are at the club (well, a little bit of energy on hate watching too :ROFLMAO:).

We also know he's not the most robust, if he keeps picking up those niggles it may turn out to be a poor buy from Liverpool and suddenly the £130m will look even better.

Isak is the best striker in the PL and im sure his fitness will improve now he will be training at a champion cub with all time great players. Newcastle were always going to sell him to LFC, so this whole drama and calling him a rat has showed the class of your club and not in good light. Now we have Wissa who you want but hes not rat? lol

Newcastle will struggle this season now, top 6 would be a great achievement but I cant see a champions league stop but best of luck to the club.

I didn't wanna mention his injuries as you'd know better. I thought he was fitter now?

He'll be playing a lot with all the competitions.

I'm not talking about fitness, I'm talking about the injuries he's picked up over the years

No we weren't always going to sell him, his behaviour has forced this to happen. If he honoured his contract then I think a sale would happen next summer, so he is and will forever remain a rat. If your fans can call someone that honoured their contract until the very end a rat then I'm fairly certain we can call him that

As for Wissa, absolutely, I maintain any player that refuses to train/play is a scumbag. I'm not a hypocrite but seems like a lot of Liverpool (and Newcastle fans) are, what about you? Are you a hypocrite?

As for Wissa, if we end up signing him then I absolutely will support him, just as I expect your fans to support Isak. I'm not asking for Liverpool fans to call him a rat just as I'm sure you don't expect Real Madrid fans to call Trent one

The luxury he has at Liverpool which he didn't really have the past couple of seasons with us is someone that can take the load off him, Wilson was always in the treatment room

So his minutes can be managed better but he's still picked up lots of niggles over the time he has been here and he doesn't seem to have the stamina to really go at it game after game but I suppose Liverpool won't play him that way so maybe the injuries/fitness issues won't be an issue

YOU called him a rat, find a single post where Ive stated this for Trent? A tiny % of LFC fans saw him in this light, he was sent off with the full stadium clapping him with while holding the PL trophy. Total different situations, its silly to even compare.

I think he will play a lot more than people think with the fee they have paid. Liverpool don't batter teams early anymore - all 3 game this season has taken a late goal to win. Also with the way Liverpool play the opposition will always be in the game.

So he will be required late on. As a football fan it will be interesting to see how this attack fairs. Not sure where Ekitike fits in.

I never said you did, I don't know what your position on the matter was, I said if your fans can call someone that didn't dishonour his contract a rat then surely you can understand why calling someone that dishonoured his contract a rat.

Unless of course you also think your fans calling Trent showed "showed the class of your club and not in good light", in which case I respect the consistency?

As for your fans clapping, that only happened after Klopp angrily called your fans our and told them off

Either way, Trent overall got a very good send off.

Its time to move on for both clubs from saga now. Newcastle's new strikers looks to have serious potential after watching some highlights but to score 20 PL will be tough.

There will be pressure on Isak at LFC due to his high value but once the team starts to improve he will get so many chances and will be key for us in the CL too.

Liverpool will more then likely play Isak out wide or move ekitike out there. Either way they have added more firepower to their team.

I hope they don't sign any new defenders

Geuhi should be moving today if Palace can find someone soon. Otherwise Jan on a substantially lower fee.

Last season Isak and Wilson combined to score 19 goals (Wilson contributing 0)

So if Woltemade/Wissa as a combination can get 20+ then we could find ourselves not massively worse off

Im surprised Arsenal didnt go for Isak or do you feel Gyokeres is on par or better?
Arsenal were never going to spend that much money on Isak or any other forward

Isak is PL proven, Gyokeres needs to play with some creative players instead of haram football he's getting at moment

Wissa scored 19 last season, so he can get just as many this season

According to PESHAWARI JIMMY HILL. It's no contest

Gyokerers had little to no interest from the likes of City, Liverpool, Madrid, Barca, Bayern. He was in England for years , playing at a lower level. He will struggle in the PL IF Arsenals creativity stays so low.

He is not tall so the set piece tactics will mean the ball will fly over his head and he will land on the cold wet muddy ground in winter very soon..

Great news with Isak deal finally being agreed. We now have quality depth in the 9 position and takes pressure off young Ekitike.

This is also succession planning for life after Salah.

For a long time our transfer business didn't match the size and scope of our ambitions, but FSG and Richard Hughes deserve credit for a stunning window.

Finally, another slap to Dr Big Mouth from Peshawar who claimed "Liverpool have no pull" - yes that's why one of Europe's best 9s literally went on strike to join us despite three years left on his deal, Europe's best No. 10 rejected City and Bayern to come here, we signed the PL's best LB last season, and so on.

No doubt he'll continue to embarrass himself as he truly has no shame.

@shaz619 You have a little gem in Harvey Elliott. Lacks the pace and physicality for top teams, but great technical ability and a thorough pro.

Should help Villa's creative issues.

Feels a little sad seeing Harvey go, he's had little starting opportunities. Harvey has also played some great matches for LFC against top opposition.

Wish him the best at Villa!

We desperately need some legs and presence in midfield, Harvey’s one hell of a talent, shows you where LFC are when he doesn’t get as much game time for you! It will be a decent move for him, playing for another big club
:akhtar

He will settle in nicely here, it’s closer to his home :yk and also great food.

Apparently we’re going to be spending silly money to get Sancho on loan as well, not sure how I feel about that, I find it odd we don’t want to bring Grealish back since we are splashing on Sancho.

Grealish wont be leaving Everton for a couple of years imo, he's happy there as he's the main star again lol.

This is a great signing for Villa, little Harvey has great stamina, he can run all day. Harvey is also a great crosser and has very good shots from long and short distance.

Villa need to get the buddah players out, the PL is now fast and furious.

Yeah we still go some of the core group who helped us get into EPL, there’s a lot of sentiment around that but for sure need more fresh pair of legs in the toughest league in the world and also wanting to compete in Euro footy as well

Agree he will struggle if we dont play to his strengths

Not sure what you define as tall. Havertz and the 3 CB's are the only ones taller. He is the same height as Merino Rice to name a few. Please check before making statements.

However on a side not if we are relying on set pieces after buying Gyokores then we are in deep trouble.

That's the final nail in the coffin for the rest.

To get isak and Guehi is just ridiculous.

We have a great squad now. Now its time for the training ground to go into overdrive and makes these gel. If they do gel to their potential, Liverpool will be near impossible to stop winning the league. I wont say its in the bag, this prediction has a copyright in Peshawar but we are strong favs. City and Arsenal need to go on a long wining run now.

Liverpool spending money like crazy. But we all been brainwashed by the media into believing that Liverpool have been competing without any money.
They got the most expensive goalkeeper and the most expensive defender at the time.

They are spending like crazy this year.

But overall I think they spent less than Arsenal and city AND utd in recent years.

I remember serial moaner Klopp going on about how Liverpool can't compete due to a lack of money, which is complete nonsense when Liverpool have spent hundreds of millions. Nothing wrong with it, of course, but I just hate this narrative surrounding Liverpool that they somehow compete for and win big honours without spending much money.

Oh yeah 100%. I have heard that too and I don’t buy it at all.

I get what you're saying and accept there will be heightened expectations as a result of this investment. However you have to remember we've had years of austerity due to the stadium expansion and hit to our revenues during Covid.

We only bought Chiesa last summer for a pittance, and did nothing in January either.

Unlike City, there are no 115 charges levelled against us for financial impropriety nor is there a Middle Eastern oil state bankrolling us. This year we've had additional revenues coming in from winning the PL, the expansion of Anfield, the additional CL money from the expanded format and topping the group, and the new kit deal with Adidas.

We've also sold players for big money including Diaz, Nunez, Quansah and a few others to balance the net spend. It's unlikely we'll do much business now for the next 2 years.

What did you think of Gyokeres yesterday be honest

I think he has an eye for finishing for sure but imo he doesnt have the pace, strength and hold up play to be considered an elite striker. He is also suspect in the air, Ive heard his heading goal ratio is below par but not sure if this is true. Imo he is very good and while playing for Arsenal should have enough easy chances to score 15+ league goals.

To be fair though. Arsenal are virtually creating nothing for him. His goals against Leeds were due to his own skill set.

He had plenty of balls sent up to him but Konate schooled him in the air. The job of a no.9 is being able to hold up play, he cannot expect 6 yards open goal finishes, he needs to drop deeper and help out and get more involved. Yes a no10 for Arsenal will help him but no.10s help to create chances for all positions if possible. He;s not elite, already some are calling him Jokeres but thats too harsh, allow him time to settle but he wont ever be on the level of Isak, Haaland, Kane, Salah etc

Arsenals XG is one of the worse so far.

Very good signing, Liverpool have all bases covered now and should be even bigger favourites for title then they were before

Its not just another CD but England Int who will be in defence at next years World Cup. Very experienced with a mature head and not a bad finisher too. The way Konate played against Arsenal, he is still no1 with VVD but a great back up with room to rotate at any time.

With Konate refusing to sign a new contract and now injured. No doubt Guehi will be starting alongside VVD.

Looks like Oliver the manager has given an ultimatum to palace , if guehi leaves .. so does he lol

20 mins to make it happen
Can't blame Glasner - he doesn't want to go backwards having just won them the FA Cup and qualifying for Europe. This one's on Parish who should've accepted Liverpool's offer last month, giving them both the funds and time to buy a replacement.

If Guehi can't sign today, we'll have to revisit this in January but need Konate continuing as he did vs Arsenal, and if (big if) Gomez stays fit. We have Leoni too but he's very young.

It’s a fair call by palace , this is their best team in years already having lost top players season on season . Maybe better to get him on a free next season. We still have Gomez and signed a young defender who is very good already .

Still one of the best windows in Liverpool history, now it’s upto the coach to make these players to become a great team

Great window. I'd argue needed Guehi more than Isak. I think you get him in January

Guehi would've been a good signing - PL proven and a leader.

That said, I did say my concern when we were initially linked was he's only 6ft and not the most aerially dominant.

Look at what Newcastle did to us with set-pieces - not sure how Guehi would've helped. Plus our defensive issues in the first two games were as much down to team structure as individual mistakes.

Still an absolutely incredible window and FSG, much maligned over the years, deserve their applause. Now let's get back to the football.

Two record signings in the same transfer window. The expectations are for Liverpool to not just win the PL but also win other major trophies.

You have a worlds class defender, world class midfielders and now a world class striker. Wow. 10/10 window.

I’d been practising his celebration but I think his goals will come against Leeds, Sunderland, Burnley..

First half he barely touched the ball. At one point the commentators mentioned he was the only player on the pitch not to have completed a single pass. Dropping deep does not seem to be his game. I wonder how it’s going to work out with him.

The gap between top teams and lesser teams are insane, both quality wise and financially.

Leeds signed 10 players and the total cost for them was around £100M and here you have 1 player going for 130M lol.😝

We didn’t do any business in the last days, don’t know how the goals will come, so championship here we come (back).

Congratulations to Liverpool on spending 125m on an injury prone twig who has never broken the 30 goal barrier even once in his career. Hopefully for your sake, it proves to be a more value for money signing than vegan Wirtz - a 117m CAM who can't pass a football.

Lets wait until you lot visit Anfield and hopefully Isak starts and if he scores to take 3 points.

How the little rat Wissa btw?

He used to score at Anfield when playing for us so I'm sure he'll score when playing for a better team

Not sure why you are struggling with us calling him a rat, we don't like the guy and we never will, we have our reasons

I'm not asking you or Liverpool fans to dislike him, just as I'm sure Liverpool fans don't expect Real Madrid fans to hate Trent

As for Wissa, he's our player and I will support him. I don't agree with him refusing to train, though apparently he didn't refuse to play, that was a club decision. If Brentford fans want to call him a rat I'm totally fine with that, his behaviour took place at their club and they have the right to call him what they want

FYI I'm not going to stop calling him a rat, so you either need to grow a thick skin and get used to it or you'll find yourself getting unnecessarily defensive a lot

It doesnt bother me , I just find it hillarious Newcastle fans are so emotional over a player but call another one a hero who did the same. Wissa refused to train, no club would allow a contracted player not to.

Anyway, we will pick this up again when you arrive at Anfield, Isak to score my prediction. :)

There is no hilarity, I've condemned both but let me give you an analogy that might hit home

If all the Children at school misbehave, I'll think they are all wrong but it's my kids misbehaving that I will be most bothered by

Newcastle fans calling Wissa a rat or booing him serves absolutely no purpose, foolish to think that we should but I won't be upset if Brentford fans want to call him that or if they decide to boo him

I wonder what % of Liverpool fans will boo Trent, when Liverpool play Madrid.

99% or 100%

Also wonder how many of these fans will keep Trent in the so called all time PL X1 they like to pick

🤭😉🙃

Massive win over the weekend. Couldn’t be happier. This is what champions do..win out of nowhere with a moment of magic.

As for Arsenal…Arteta must win something this season. Quite cowardly to not play Eze from the off…Slot fielded four debutants for the opener. This is the difference. Intent.

Arsenal fans wont understand this but you are 100% spot on. We are champions, it was up to them to come and try to win as they are more defiancet in trophies than a zombie is of vitamin d.

Arsenal fans won't understand? you've probably seen Liverpool win 2 league titles in your entire life time.

Don't get to carried away with stuff. Some Arsenal fans know exactly what should have been done on Sunday and didn't happen. Don't start portraying aj entire fan base on a select few fans
