South Africa vs India | 2nd test | Ahmedabad | 3/4/2008 to 7/4/2008

difference is dravid plays half his games on flat indian tracks . Kallis play half his matches on bowler friendly south african tracks. Making kallis twice the player dravid is .

Dravid's away average is better than his home average! Now please look into some stats before saying something funny. Don't blow out of proportion here

South Africa look to accelerate . Kallis hopefully will show you guys what he can do and put comparisson to dravid out your mind. When he wants to Kallis can score at will (and boundaries at that).

saffer man...if you have no idea what u are talkin abt..refrain from commenting on stuff before takin a look at the actual stats..Dravid has a better away record than home.....

and so ? He didn't make much of home conditions..that's all that tells us...and his average is still less than kallis . If kallis had played half his games on indian wickets you think he'd only average 58 ?

Jo_Don said:
True, but Kallis has been working on improving his strike rate in the past few years after coming under criticism for it. His career strike rate is mainly due to his earlier years. I can't comment on whether Dravid has been working to improve his strike rate because I haven't really been following his progress.

Lol

I agree. :)

whats the point of playing irfan if he isn't given the new ball ?

total nonsense from kumble

Pathan fastest ball (139) is slower than the average ball of morkel and steyn.

India are just going through the motions and Pathan is bowling at a consistent & rapid speed of 115 KPH

Not a big difference in average. I don't think it's a parameter to compare two of the modern test greats, in this case

The lowest average scores in test cricket by all teams are in south africa. 250 is a decent test score in south africa ...300 is a good score .Kallis has averaged 58 playing on those wickets all the time . It deserves pointing out that dravid has played most of his games on these pitches where batsman scored huge 200's and teams score 500-600 almost every game .

I definitely need to go to bed now, but I'll go out on a limb here and say that SA will probably get to 450 before either being dismissed or declaring. These two look set.

I'll log in tomorrow to see how right or wrong I was.

Look at the south african batsmen . A guy like de villiers is classy but averages only 39. Given he struggled at the start of his career , but still if he'd been playing half his games on wickets like chennai he'd average well over 50 ...obviously....every south african batsman would . Just take that into account when you want to measure indian players against others going by stats...

Yeah, he has grown up playing in those conditions. That said, I am not saying he is inferior to Dravid. Both have played in different conditions and it's not wise to compare them. You don't compare Apples and Oranges.

South Africa should bat until they're dismissed. No need for declarations or quick runs, just bat and bat and bat. There is so much time left in the game that S.A can afford to bat until tea tomorrow! Ideally they should look to bat just once in this game and that means putting up a total of 550 plus.

That's what they will do . You might see them try and dominate and speed up , but they won't hit out anytime soon.

Harbajan bowling pretty well here - this is the best I have seen him bowl for a while, not just spearing it into the stumps but using flight and spin and bounce.
I imagine Indian fans must find him very frustrating for this reason.

Very unlikely SA will declare on 450, batting last wont be nice so they will try to get as much runs as they can now.

well my bet is south africans are gonna push the lead till 400+ and declare and shut the indians out of the match!! unless indians do sumthing extraordinary this match is a GONER!

Kallis doesn't have a double century as yet, so the Indian supporters can take comfort from the fact that he should be dismissed at around the 150 mark ;-)

Some schoolboy fielding from the Indians here. Kirsten looks like he wants to be sitting in the South African dressing room instead!

You called it man.

What is happening to RP Singh, I thought he was a very promising bowler and had very good control but so far wicketless in this series. I think his place will be under threat for next match if Ishant or Zaheer are fit again.

India totally gone now. Saffers are going to win this easily.

Well...not totally , but it would be silly to say they have any real chance...yes .

De villers goes for it and a HUGe six....on the roof....

This could be fun if he's decided to have a go..

Morkel gone . De Villiers running out of partners . Go for it son...get an over or two in for the bowlers this evening .

Sloppy fielding again by india . How many overthrows have their been ? This is not good stuff....Gary Kirsten will sort them out I'm sure .

Dravid averages 50 at home and 58.5 away.

All rise for AB DEvilliers

201*

1st SA to score a double ton v India

200 for Ab De Villiers . Another guy some indian posters here didn't rate very highly .

What a battering.

Appaling effort by India in the field - schoolboy stuff by them

Mother of all defeats looming. Oh well.

i'm afraid even if india score a third innings 500 that seems the likely scenario. Don't give up though...the pitch is certainly pretty flat now ...if india can grind out 600+ they can draw the game .

i doubt it
steyn and co left some scars on the indian batsmen minds on the 1st day
it wont take just 1 day too get over tat

pretty sure steyn will get another fifer here

139.1 Pathan to de Villiers, 2 runs, pitches outside leg and he tucks it away off his hips wide of midwicket, a slack throw allows a double

Pathan replaces Harbhajan. There's a mild drizzle as well.

rain gods coming to the rescue???

i dont want the damn rain

i hope we lose!!!!

cuz at this point, we need a major overhaul

FTB's like jaffer gangu needs to go and dhoni should stick to odis only (surprisingly bats calmer in odis that tests)

parthiv patel needs to come in

chopra needs to come in

and badrinath deserves a chance

If Indian batsman can get in a positive frame of mind they can save it but that will require over 12 hours of batting.

The pitch is still flat and SA seem in no mood to make India bat today which might give them some time to re-energise.

AB is one of the few SA batsmen i like to watch ....but then again his technique is all that great like most other SA batsmen, hes more in gibbs mould ..this one innings dosen change the fact that he is more of a oDI batsmen .

i wont

because of him sehwag wasnt in the team

he bloody injured- for the betterment of the team, he should heal his injury first rather than blocking someones side in test matches

and yes he is a FTB

dude was clueless against aus bowlers

agreed it was his first tour but still

him and jaffer needs to go

why the hell was Yuvi clapping? :))) :))) :))) :))) :)))

After big wins in Aus, everybody claimed that things are going great..... and it takes only 2 hours of play to demand overhaul?

LOL as I said to Indiafan in the 76 all out thread:

You're [Indiafan] one of the more balanced Indian fans though mate. You don't go overboard when you win, and you don't slit your wrists when you lose. Personally, I go by the mantra "you're never as good as they say you are, and you're never as bad as they say you are". When OZ was winning people were talking about how our dominance was bad for cricket because we were so far above everyone else, when the truth was we weren't - we just had more consistency and did the small things better. Then when we have the odd loss all the knockers come out with their "OZ is on a decline and will fall like the WI did" rubbish.

Basically, you're never as good as they say you are, and you're never as bad as they say you are. I guess Oxy's point was directed to those Indian fans on the forum who extrapolated what I feel were decent results on your OZ tour (lost the Test series, but if you play the game of "if" you can make it look like you actually won all games bar the 1st, and won the CB Trophy after looking dismal earlier in the tournament, but everyone had forgotten about that by the time the final came around) and the tour ended up being this massive victory in their eyes. I think that's the crux of it.

To his credit TruSachFan admitted he's a rollercoaster supporter - epic highs when the team wins, and wrist slitter when the team loses. :19:

DeVilliers is one of those all-or-nothing players - he's either get out for a low score or go and make a big ton. He's very well suited to the middle order, though he wasn't that bad as an opener either.

very underrated player.

So by himself, AB has scored 3 times as much as the entire Indian team combined. As the West Indians would say, this is MURDERATION!! :O

fine

wat i meant was players like jaffer and yuvi needs to go from indian test side

jaffer struggled all through out the aus series and yuvi was pathetic

IMO there are better players than jaffer in the domestic who badly deserves a chance

players like badrinath who's 27 yrs old btw

preetry sure that sach, dravid, laxman, and gangu will retire in 2 yrs at most. So, indian team must start preparing for their replacements now

like michael clarke will replace ponting
