Usman Khan - 25 year old batsman from Karachi.

Played 2 first-class games for Karachi Whites in October 2017.

Recently played in the Emirates D20 tournament in Dubai in December, where he was the 3rd highest run scorer, scoring 402 runs at 44.66.

Today he gets his PSL debut for Quetta Gladiators against Multan, replacing the Covid-struck Tom Banton.

He's started his innings well. What are your first impressions of him?

Giving a better start to Quetta than their foreigners, 31 from 20 already

Brings up his 50 on debut in just 33 balls.

technique very unorthodox but he has power and most impressive is his rotation of strike which all of our openers could do with learning

Seems to knows his game well and plays around it which is a pleasant change to what we are used to.

His movement on the crease is really good. Very effective so far.

The Six of Imran Tahir’s googly was a treat, he picked it up early and dismissed it easily.

And now he continues hitting sixes! 80* now.

Technique is pretty overrated in LOIs. We can test him in international and see how he does.

He has the confidence to hit big.

His dream debut knock comes to an end, 81 runs from 50 balls

so he perform in 1 inning just now and you will select him in national team  time millions. How cheap you think Pakistan national team cap is? :12:

I don’t think Quetta don’t get enough credit for the young players they find and push. Just off the top of my head they’ve introduced Azam Khan, Hassan Khan, Hasnain, Usman Khan, Saim Ayub and Mohammad Nawaz.

If I’m not wrong they were first to pick up Naseem Shah too.

:)) this place would be boring without comments about his international debut lol. Guess it's cool to be excited but maybe a couple more innings would be nice

Big hitter - this young man!

Let him at least perform for few matches in this PSL.

Looks a lot better then many openers Pakistan had in the past 15 years or so. I am not saying to draft him in straight away but this chap looks calm.

Based on Abdullah Shafique’s selection....it is very cheap for Misbah and co.

So what?? Nasir Jamshed looked like a gem when he first made his debut for Pakistan.

I didnt see u asking these questions for asif ali, ifit khushdil etx.. its clearly pretty cheap other wise u wouldnt be asking this question.

You cannot judge a player based on one innings..

However you can have a first impression. And my first impression is that he is not international quality and is too old to take his game to that level.

He looks like a poor man's Zeeshan Malik who himself isn't an international batsman.

Not international quality. In fact, extremely mediocre.
Will get exposed the more he plays.

Fluke innings, he will never better this performance.

Looks fantastic. Nice high bat lift.

Great confidence also.

Big hitter - this young man!

Big hitter? He swung with all his power on some of those shots and they barely travelled. Does not have that big hitter ability.

Whoever is calling for his selection needs to wake up.

His sample size is far too small.

The comparison with Abdullah is not valid because Abdullah had about 7 or 8 T20 games played, and even though that is a poor sample size, it's better than 1 innings.

Despite that, Quetta should continue with him. At least he's proactive at the crease and moves around in the crease to create angles. Didn't see anyone try a few yorkers on him, and for batsmen who move a lot on the crease, the yorker is bound to be an effective delivery.

he does not have good batting technique, that 6 against Braithwaite where he changed his stance to bat like Anwar Ali will not work in international stage, also no way he is 25 years old, he is giving competition to Ifti chacha in age fudging

someone did... :azhar2

someone did... :azhar2

Full toss and a half-volley.

Fair play to him, but there wasn't a decent yorker bowled at him. Can see that as a weakness, and also perhaps bowling back of a length on the off-side with an off-side field. Make him shuffle across and angle one into the stumps.

He hasn't batted on the front stage a lot, so a bowling plan against him would be pretty new. He tries to create room, so tight bowling should help.

He's barely crossing the boundary. Most of these are caught out in an international game.

Exactly.

I'll give him credit for using his brain to maneuvre the ball into gaps, and shuffling around in the crease to create room for shots, but his hitting game seems limited.

Hope he proves me wrong, but those are my initial thoughts.

Oh yeah, that was the point/joke
no one in the match could actually execute the yorker length

The test will come when teams start working out his strengths, how he reacts to that will tell us how good he is. Decent innings today.

Didn't look at all impressive off the highlights. People here are praising his strike rotation though so I guess that's one thing to like about him.

Don’t think he will go too far. Didn’t look convincing with his technique but played well considering the pressure you are under on debut.

Good for Questa, but seems more club level player based on what I saw. Seemed to be hurried with handling pace and short pitched bowling aimed at him. Not international material at the moment. Give him time , at least one season to see how he goes against better bowling and time to work out some weaknesses if he is truly interested in improving.

Reminds me of how people hyped Ahsan Ali based on few hacky innings like this.

This guy looked good. Seemed to know his game and played accordingly. At least had a gameplan unlike Haider Ali who is always itching to slog towardd mid wicket

Making his PSL 8 debut for Multan - a little too late?

Not impressed so far - seems to be finding his way but on this Pindi pitch no time for that!

Take it back!

Looking good now - MS could be tempted to keep Shan out if Usman does well

This is what Usman is after now

Excellent player of spin, but don't really rate him.

On a decent pitch he'll be out quickly to a good pace bowler.

Well you have to rate him after todays innings. Reminds me abit of Surya Yadav the 360 shots. Long way to go but I’ll blood this guy in the Pakistan t20 team asap what Scintillating hitting

Usman Khan out stumped by Umar Akmal off the bowling of Nawaz 120(43)

Preferring Shan masood over this guy is an absolute joke. Just sums up the mindset of Pakistan domestic teams and national team just don’t give the right talent the platform and confidence to prosper.

He’s the Pakistani yadav and on that basis deserves a chance in the national t20 team. Have had enough of the snail paced openers rizwan and Babar

Pancake wicket... Small ground...

Doesn't matter.

100 off 36 balls is special.

I've not seen a Pakistani batsman since the days of Afridi play such a destructive innings like this.

Best PSL innings of all time.

Feel sorry for the lad that he's benched for Shan Masood after all this time during this season.

The Babar and Rizwan opening combination is beyond untenable.

Muhammad Haris, Saim Ayub, Fakhar Zaman and this guy should be competing for the top 3 batting spots for Pakistan in T20Is.

Agreed.

Hate people putting a downer on his efforts.

Intent was brilliant

He wanted to smash every ball

A very good inning , even on this joke of a wicket but I have to see him performing on a " regular" wicket and ground to be impressed.

During my days of club cricket at Lahore, it was common to see even non-FC cricketer playing this kind of innings on cemented wickets and Pindi wicket is no difference.

With this inning he made the job easier for Rizwan to drop Shan Masood , for ever.

Exactly need to see him play a full PSL season

If you want a hitter with intent than pick this guy.

Not scammers like Asif or Azam.

Anyone can have an intent, but having a skill also is the key. His skill level is still a big question. What was his performance in remaining matches after scoring a 100 at BPL ?
