Ollie Pope's masterclass has kept his team in contention, as they now hold a lead of 126 runs, instilling a sense of belief that extending it to around 160-170 could be crucial. As Pope walked away, he received handshakes from the Indians, applause from his teammates, and a standing ovation, acknowledging that his innings has propelled the Test into the fourth day. The question arises: could India have performed better? While England displayed resilience, adapting to the slowing pitch and the softening ball, the trio of Indian spinners faced challenges against a barrage of sweeps and reverse sweeps initiated by Duckett and Crawley, and continued by the impressive Ollie Pope.

The diminutive right-hander showcased a sublime innings, filled with positive strokes that disrupted the bowlers' lengths. Ben Foakes played a supporting role, contributing to a 112-run partnership for the 6th wicket. Notably, Pope was given a lifeline on 110 when Axar Patel dropped a catch, and he has capitalized on that opportunity, making India pay for the lapse.

Looking ahead, the question lingers: how much is too much for India? At the moment, they need to secure four more wickets, with the second new ball becoming available soon. The dynamics of this match suggest that the upcoming phase with the new ball could be decisive, as the pitch seems conducive to new-ball bowling. The fate of the match may very well hinge on this crucial phase.

Anything under 250, India will chase it easily.

250-325 will give England 50-50 chance.

325+, England will be favorites.

I don't think England is going to cross 200 lead here. They will be all out before lunch and this match is gonna be over today.

Without Kohli, I think you should reduce those targets by 50 runs each.

Stat alert:

England are the first touring side to score 300 or more in the second innings of a Test in India since Sir Alastair Cook's England team in 2012.

WICKET! Rehan c Rahul b Bumrah 28 – England 339-7

Rehan edged the previous ball short of wicketkeeper Rahul having played with soft hands but nicks the next through to the India gloveman as England lose their first wicket of the morning. The hosts snap a 64-run partnership between Rehan and Pope.

Come on England. You have a great chance here. Dont let it go waste :cautious: Need Pop toscore 200+

Jadeja can register his double hundred (with the ball) today. Golden chance.

Its truly frustrating to dominate ATG lever spinners on a spinning track just to see a pacer splash water and nullify all that effort.

I don't know why they haven't taken the new ball yet. Yes, Bumrah has got one wicket with the old ball today but the new ball would've got better rewards probably.

Quite a test match this is turning into, if ENG gets close to 200, I feel ENG has a great chance to go 1-0...

170 lead now, decent effort so far, how many runs to set a competitive total? Another 50?

If Olli Pope saves the match for his team then he will become a HERO from ZERO. That's the beauty of a Test match, you always get a 2nd chance. He already is a hero for his team, saved them from an inning defeat.

Really poor captaincy from Rohit

When Bumrah was bowling, he didn't take the new ball. Now that the new ball has been taken, there is no sign of Bumrah.

This test is as good as gone from Indian point of view.

What an inning this is by POPE. Taking the game away from India, single-handedly.

This ollie pope Knock is best I've seen from an English batsman on Indian soil.

Ollie Pope has now scored more runs in this innings than he had in his entire career in India before this innings.

What are the commentators on about the pitch? It looks flat and the turn is slow.
Gavaskar and Shastri are saying that the pitch is tough to bat on. WTH!

England may still go on to lose this game but those aggressive sweeps, reverse sweeps, paddles, reverse scoops etc seems to have deflated the Indian spinners. Huge huge achievement

Stat alert:

India have never lost a Test on home soil in which they have carved out a first-innings lead of 100 runs.

could this be the first one. ENgland is in good position all because of OLLIE POPE.

This game is done & dusted .

Tom Hartley should be praised here. Supporting Pope here as they scored 50 runs together now.

Never before both Ashwin and Jadeja went for over 100 runs in a test match that's been played in India.

Indian bowlers have been poor when it comes to rolling over the tail. Proved right once again

Former England batter Kevin Pietersen:

"This is a boxing match and England have given India an uppercut. India are a bit dizzy. A big blow has been dealt."

India is not going to get a wicket unless the batsmen throw it away. This is super flat pitch.

How is this for a stat:

First instance of each of sixth, seventh & eight wicket partnerships scoring 50+ vs India in India (third instance overall)

England should have a lead of 325-350. In don’t see any bowler being effective on this pitch. Perhaps Bumrah with this newish ball.

What a dropped catch that was.

Wheels coming off here.

Pope dropped twice in this innings now. Really poor from the mental midget.

Siraj has been real waste of space in this test.

I called it on day 1. It’s over for India. After this loss it will be hard to recover.

WICKET! Hartley b Ashwin 34 – England 419-8

Ashwin breaks the 80-run stand between Hartley and Pope by bowling the former from around the wicket, the ball scuttling through low to hit the stumps. Boy, did India need that!

Every Tom Dick and Hartley is scoring is scoring in this innings.

WICKET! Wood c Bharat b Jadeja 0 – England 420-9

Jadeja draws Wood forward and the England tailender gets the faintest of edges through to Bharat, walking off before the umpire can raise his finger. Will Leach now hobble out to bat. Yes, he will!

India need one wicket to finish the innings, Pope needs four for a double ton. Which will come first?

WICKET! Pope b Bumrah 196 – England 420 all out in 102.1 overs

The wicket comes first with Pope bowled on the reverse scoop. A fitting, Bazball way to go!

Pope misses out on a second Test match double century but has played his best knock and one of England's greatest to drag his side back into this game.

Pope had a brain fade. A very low percentage shot to play against Bumrah. He could’ve played that over mid wicket for a boundary. Threw it away.

Wow...what an innings from Pope -deserved a double.....one of the great innings by a visiting batsman - definately in the last 15 odd years....
Well - plenty of time in the match, big challenge for our guys - pitch is keeping low and turning, but runs also there to be had...
Jazz Boom - a tremendous speell of bowling - a standout champion as well...
Chase will be tricky . . . i guess ample chance for someone like Rehaaan to stand up and show his wares....
wont be easy for our guys to hunt down this target

meanwhile Windies sending the thunderflash up them Aussies....that ball to get Travis head was an absolute peach!!...7wkts down....are we entering upset territory in both matches?

Flat pitch my foot. This is day 4. There is enough for everyone.
Enough of what? The turn is slow and batsman will have ample time to adjust.
The new ball will do something for a couple of overs and then it will be fun barrel straight.

The only way India is losing this is by choking or play stupid shots.

Openers gotta give us a good start or else we'll be bundled out in no time.

All depends on jaiswal .if he scored runs India will win otherwise india is going to lose this test match.

It's high time for Rohit to score big. Currently he is just scoring quick fire 20-30 which is not doing any good.

I think bounce will be key, if it keeps low even mark wood wold be hard to get rid off...
this is a great chance for guys like Rehaan and hartley to stand up and be counted...
