What's new

England v Pakistan | 1st Test | Lord's | Jul 14-18, 2016 | Day 1

Shafiq is a poor timer of the ball. Keeps missing out on boundary balls against pace.

Other than the cut shot against spin which he plays beautifully, he lacks scoring avenues.

I think he struggles with his timing and placement in the UAE, in particular. Today his timing has been quite impressive.

I think England have drooping shoulders now....unless a wicket falls,Pak have won the battle....they have totally outplayed England

It will be tempting to play Shafiq in the ODI series at number 3, if he has a good series here.

Nassir was showing some of the technical issues some of our players have, than his last clip showed Botham trying to hack the ball to midwicket but it goes through is leg and hits the stumps. It was hilarious :))

Lol Nass is the best at Sky!

If there was a Naseer Hussain biographical film....I can imagine the voice over saying ....Before Khwaja,Before MoAli,Before Amla......millions of years ago on Queens landing there was the original bhai,Naseer Hussain :nasser

Nasser was Indian though :amla

Botham should've replied with this clip:

Finn looks like he is injured again. I feel for the guy.

I wonder how Finn would've developed if he was Pakistani and came through our bowling culture. Feel like there's a lot of potential wasted there. Has never been consistent.

please tell me why asad shafiq struggles in odis and what he need to do to improve his game for odi format

In short, I believe it's all mental. He needs one breakthrough series.

Strike rotation and shots is a problem, but as he showed in this innings, he has potential.

sounds like a phatta pitch..could be a long day in the field for us when we bowl..got to make sure we get a decent score first up otherwise we could be looking down the barrel.

Lacks belief in himself in that format. Grant Flower has said the same.

Some batsmen struggle when they have to pace their innings , in restricted overs he feels pressure of scoring quick and he lacks that ability to rotate strike in Odis.

Is Cook going to kill Berbi? after 16 overs, he'll be called again with new ball. I think, what Cook is planning & that's straightway cheating - he is planning to to bowl 85/86 overs today.

ICC must come with some solution beyond fines & suspension - that doesn't hurt the team, the cheating is done against. ENG 'll keep playing 4/5 seemers, & Cook'll keep Moeen out of attack - that's tactical cheating; for which benefit might go to Bangladesh & India.

When I toured Lord's in Jan, the tour guide asked me which Pakistani's name will appear on the Honour's Board this summer.
I said Misbah, a bit hesitantly though.
Let's hope it happens! *fingers crossed*

England seem to have a problem in this test, with Finn looking horrible and Moeen not being trusted to bowl. They really need Anderson and Stokes back.

The England are continuously bowling pacers which is leading to big patches developing for Yasir. By this time tomorrow there will be huge holes for Yasir to exploit. .

You have summed it up well. Should have been given a long rope at 3. Could be too late now.

Geoff Boycott on TMS: Of all the players, the one I miss is Waqar Younis.

Geoff really is a closet Pakistani.

Just give him three to four series at number 3 and we will see the difference Insha Allah

i think one another reason is he has played mostly odi games in uae and his batting style does not suite there on slow and low pitches
may be england odi series is breakthrough series for him

I would love Finn in our team. He is a very good bowler.

England didn't play Anderson because they didn't think he was fully fit but they play Finn who doesn't seem fully fit.

Good effort but looks like a boundary, his elbow's touching the rope. Yep, four given.

With the advent of Babar azam , saud shakeel , rizwan etc . its gonna be hard for him to find his place in Odis. Worth giving chance as an opener in the odi series though.

They can't risk their bowler. If Anderson gets a long-term injury, England will be in big trouble.
