What's new

England v Pakistan | 1st Test | Lord's | Jul 14-18, 2016 | Day 1

i think one another reason is he has played mostly odi games in uae and his batting style does not suite there on slow and low pitches
may be england odi series is breakthrough series for him

Yes. He has played many ODIs but not regularly, plays 1-2 matches then is dropped for 5-6 games.

Asad Shafiq looks so good while playing his shots

It is unfortunate how he hasn't been able to make his name in colored clothing so far

Pretty pleased to get past 200 with 4 wickets down first day, first test. Should give confidence in the tests to come. Plus Misbah and Asad look solid out there, look like they'll be able to score a lot more.

Anderson is their main bowler and is very difficult to replace. They can't risk an injury to him. Finn otoh is a good bowler but he is replaceable.

True really finn shouldn't have played he doesn't look fit and is out of form.

Why haven't they got more slips in, instead of those funky fielders at short mid off and short mid on?

This is very subcontinental field placement by cook. It brought the error from shafiq

Boycott: I said to Waqar I'd bat against him easily. I'd get a single and watch from the other end ! :D

At this rate Misbah is going to cost PP - after PSL, we have lost our wonderful met @W65L35, now after the English tour, he is threatening Junaids.
AlphaFighter though, already sudhar gaya ...........

Would love to know who these 'youngsta beauties', that you keep referring to, are. The youngest batsman in the team is Shan Masood, who is a bit less than 27, and the average age of the five batsmen in our Test team not named Misbah or Younis is still over 30.

Then again it is fashionable to peddle the myth of 'no upcoming talent in the country' nowadays, in order for certain people to justify the endless dragging out of their careers... :afridi

well, our seniors are 43 years old, so even '30' is youngsta beauty. :najam

I have to say, I haven't seen shafiq play this shot often, but he executes it well

Junaids is a great poster but in that other thread he said Misbah will score 40 odd I the series at average of 6. LOL

It doesn't end there. Shafiq might be playing odi's as well this tour so we will lose a few more :)

Moeen time. I hope Misbah goes easy on him. I don't want Cook to take him off after just one over.

No need to take on the fielders in the deep. Have a feeling Misbah will try the reverse swep

Michael Vaughan: Shafiq is one of my favourite batsmen in the world at the moment.

Shafiq is so much classy compared to others, that sometimes he looks mis-fit in between YK, Misbah & Umar & Sarfu. Still in his early 30s, should be invested for No. 4 in WC 2019. He is too good to miss out.

Glorious shot to bring up the fifty from Shafiq.

Lord's gives him a good reception.
