Well the game is underway after the rain delay, but it has been reduced to 29 over’s per side.

The teams:
England 1 Luke Wright, 2 Ian Bell, 3 Kevin Pietersen, 4 Ravi Bopara, 5 Paul Collingwood (capt), 6 Owais Shah, 7 Tim Ambrose (wk), 8 Dimitri Mascarenhas, 9 Graeme Swann, 10 Stuart Broad, 11 James Anderson

New Zealand 1 Brendon McCullum, 2 Jamie How, 3 Ross Taylor, 4 Scott Styris, 5 Daniel Flynn, 6 Grant Elliott, 7 Gareth Hopkins (wk), 8 Daniel Vettori (capt), 9 Kyle Mills, 10 Michael Mason, 11 Tim Southee

NZ won the toss and elected to bowl, Bell fell to the third ball of the innings, caught by the skipper.

England 7/1 into the third over, Wright and Pieterson at the crease!

Wright out - made 52 off 38 balls
Eng 77-3 after 12.4 overs @ 6.07

12.4 Elliott to Wright, OUT, "That's six, that's six, that's out!" declares Cricinfo's Bumble Lloyd, and whatdaya know, he's right! Wright climbed into a massive mow over the covers, but didn't get enough bat on it. Still, a fine momentum-seizing innings
LJ Wright c Styris b Elliott 52 (38b 6x4 2x6) SR: 136.84

Rain stopped play

4.15pm For this match to be viable, they have to restart by 5.11pm, which would give enough time for a 20-over contest. That's the best part of an hour, so this game isn't quite a write-off.

so they have about 40 min left but the decision probably have to be made in next 30 min

137 for 6 after 20.3 overs.

The match has been reduced to 24 overs per side, thanks to the wonderful English weather :)

England 162-10 after 24 overs @ 6.75 - end of innings

Southee had a hat-trick chance in last over but missed it as the ball missed the stumps by couple of inches.

So England have finished with 162 but due to the Duckworth/Lewis calculation that target will be adjusted. We'll bring you the revised target when we can.

D Gower is saying NZ will be chasing around 165 but i think it should be a lot more than that

England have some massive hitters:

Luke Wright SR 111
Mascarenhas SR 137

Not to mention KP SR 87 with average 50

Finally finding the right ODI combination perhaps?

Target is 165. What are the over quota? Four NZ bowlers bowled 5 overs each so looks okay. Use the 20 overs for 4 best bowlers.

Now, ridiculous as it seems given the delays we have had all day, we now have a half-hour break between innings. Don't shoot the messenger. - cricinfo

looks like they are hoping for rain to come again and there will be no result

5.50pm The covers have been during the break, but they're off now. However, it does appear that we have lost one over from New Zealand's innings. The scorers are still working out the target, but it's likely to be 160 from 23 overs. Play should start at 6pm

aur lambi break lo

And finally we have official confirmation that the target is 160 from 23 overs -

NZ 4-0 after 1 - need 157 more @ 7.1

14/0 after 3

If NZ are to win this mcculum will have to play, otherwise i see NZ just folding

ooooooooo lucky inside egde (Chinese cut) for 4 BUT last ball of the Broad over How just chips it straight to Shah 25/1 after 4

Consecutive 4s from Taylor down fine leg, 12 off the over
47/1

Taylor is pretty quite - 1 off 7 balls. That will be a disaster for NZ
and he hits two fours

NZ 47-1 after 7 overs @ 6.71 - need 113 from 16 overs (96 balls) @ 7.06 an over

Beautiful placement from Mccullum through the covers, 4 more! 51 now

Only just away from Mascarenas at shrt fine leg, 4 more!

NZ above the RRR, England need wickets!

Dont think Swann will do too much, Mclullum will probably take a liking to him

More luck for Taylor, inside edge shaves the leg stump and goes for 4 more!

Great shot from Taylor now, on drive 4 more!!
NZ opening up now, Anderson not liking this!

You got to take a chance they are losing the game anyways so why not give the spinner a chance before its too late

The attendance for this match is terrible. Edgbaston is barely half full. The people of Birmingham have delivered their verdict on what they think of being asked to pay £55 for the cheapest ticket.

Expect the lowest crowd for a Test match in England for many years when Edgbaston hosts the South Africans. The ticket prices are the same per day for that game. Pure greed, which is backfiring on them big time. Had the ticket prices been sensible, both this game and the Test would easily have been sell-outs.

Taylor smacks Swann for 4 and brings up the 50 partnership
76/1

Hear hear!! Fell sorry for the people of Birmingham, this could only work if its Pakistan or India playing!

Also its good to hear our NZ visitors are enjoying the English summer!

I don't understand raising the ticket prices so much. The boards are making more and more money from bradcasting and sponsorships. And these people will want a full house as that is more appealing and changes the atmosphere for people watching and playing.

I am guessing the county ground hosting the match has a say in ticket prices but just share some money from broadcasting and lower prices

Up to the 2005 season in England, tkt prices were reasonable.

Since England won the Ashes.....prices nearly doubled!

I paid £28 to watch an International in 2004/05. Now its £50-£60 for the cheapest seats.

No way Jose...cant afford those extortionate rates.

WOW!
Who would pay 55 pounds to watch these ugly slogs?

Under 15,000 spectators at the Middx v Surrey T20 game few days ago

2 years ago - it was sold out months before the game!

Last year we saw the same game at The Oval - 3/4 full....

Wake up ECB....

Probably thought they'd take advantage, poor NZ side against an England ODI side actually having a chance to win!

Reverse sweep for 4.

NZ should win this.

As for streams....the rain clouds are gathering, so we might all get a stream......

Great attempt to save 4 - but Anderson might be unlucky...

Styris should have quite ODIs instead of tests if not both. This guy was hitting the ball last WC (only McMillan and Styris persforming) and since then has just gone down.

Umpires conferring.

6 balls more will constitute a game.

They are going off.

Poor decision.

Farcical.

Why the hell did they go for the 30 mins break.

JOKE!

And crowd wont get a penny back

I dont think they can all it a 'No Result' just yet.

Ian Botham talking sense.

Would it kill them to play on for 6 more balls?

Oh wait, England would lose then!

Had TV umpire not spent 10 mins deciding if Anderson had touched the boundary, might have been all ever....

Six more balls, and we've got a match. England look quite happy to call it quits now, the umpires have a discussion, and that - incredibly - is that. On come the covers, though McCullum doesn't want to go anywhere. New Zealand needed to be on 134 for 2 after 20 overs to win this match - which would have been a perfectly obtainable seven runs in the over.

Ian Botham, quite rightly, is doing his nut about the half-hour break between innings. There are about 15 minutes of playing time remaining in this game, but you can hear the wind howling through the covers as they are being brought on.

cricinfo has put "no result" what crap :altaf
