What's new

India v England | 2nd Test | Visakhapatnam | Nov 17-21, 2016 | Day 1

how arre they possibly making money of such a low price

surely that cannot be profitable

i remember in WC 2015, the whoel freaking tournament was 150 indian rupees which is less than a dollar.

the vpn subscription i bought to use it without issues was like $8. I was wondering where does the profitability aspect come in

They're at a stage where they want to glean people off the telly so the carrot has to be dangled.

The price might increase in years to come.

+1

Having someone with a test average of 34 coming in at 6 isn't acceptable.

Its fine in subcontinent conditions. The pitches can be flattish, so can do without a proper bat at 6. Also we can bat deep till 8, and Ashwin can score in clutch situations.

Will not work in England/SA

India 112/2 (37.0 ov)
India RR 3.02
Last 10 ovs 24/0 RR 2.40
Min overs remaining 53
Cheteshwar Pujara (rhb) 42 (109)
Virat Kohli (rhb) 50 (87)

India is "UUUGE" bro ! The sheer number of subscribers will make it reasonably profitable. This is more about capturing the fast growing mobile streaming market . And STAR pretty much a monopoly over Indian Sports . So once they capture it , we may see prices rise.

At that time 1 dollar was approximately 60 Indian rupees. So more like $ 2.5

haha sth like that. point was insignificant amount. everything came under $10 whereas espn was offering same thing at like $200 with nonexistent pre and post match shwos

dont hindi and bengali have similar script

like farsi, urdu and arabic have

Ya, most non South Indian languages are from 'Devanagari' but it's not easy for non Indian Bengalis to read Hindi. May be Nil is a Bangladeshi living in India :shakib

Wonder if we should have the tea break before lunch in the subcontinent where the day starts at 9:30 AM. Nobody has lunch at 11:30 AM.

09:30 - 11:30 Session 1
11:30 - 11:50 Tea
11:50 - 13:50 Session 2
13:50 - 14:30 Lunch
14:30 - 16:30 Session 3

They are trying to gain market share for now.

The ads in hotstar promote the shows that are available in hotstar.

Plus they (as in Star Sports) ain't losing TV viewers this way. The segment in India that pays for such services is still very niche.

Dunno how the numbers work out with respect to Indian and foreign market. So I would like to know that as well if some poster can explain this.

Pyoor Tam Brahms have lunch at 11:30 in their homes.

No breakfast. Just brunch.

And Jadeja has 3 triple hundreds.

Jayant is an Ashwin lite of sorts. Probably a bit less gifted in bowling but more patient. And a competent lower order batsman. Played a good hand in a few partnerships down under against Aus A facing some good bowlers.

I've read good things about Jayant regarding his bowling. But haven't watched him bowl much apart from the IPL and the LOIs, didn't look all that to me but tests are a different kettle of fish. Hopefully he has a good debut here.

ESPN offering at $200?

How is that possible?

Even Sky offers its cricket subscriptions at 60 pounds a month right?

Chief Destroyer and Bewal Express - What do you make of Kuldeep Yadav guys?

Does he have what it takes to be an all conditions spinner?

Been following him, Mukund and Pant this Ranji. All three are having a great season.

Ha ha, I know. I grew up in Mambalam..

How you tam brahms manage to survive with just 2 meals in a day. I get hungry within one or two hours of having food.:noori

Brunch - Tiffen - Dinner

I just have brunch and dinner. Then maybe something else if I have mood.

Don't like this model.

Rahul needs to make sure he doesn't take his place for granted, such a good bat hopefully gives importance to his wicket.

If Jayant can average 30 in international cricket while looking solid, maybe we can make up for that 1 bat.

Right now, we are in a dilemma.

Ideally what we need is a batting AR. Not a bowling AR.

Hope Rahane doesn't play another lulloo innings here. Needs to start firing in the series.

Fair enough, wonder if it odd ball might bounce more than he expects while playing such a shot.

I think its important to look to score on these kind of pitches. And Pujara is an expert on these pitches because he takes the scoring opportunities on offer. One might bounce a little more while playing these shots and get him and one may very well keep low and go through his defence :)

Any pitch on which the toss decides the game is an absolute farce . . seeing that ball from Mo Ali, there's no way team batting second stands a chance on this . . ridiculous!

It's really disgusting and unfair when toss decides who is going to win.

India is batting first on a pitch which will be very very difficult to bat on as the match progresses.India is favorite as they won the toss! :mv

Lol this is like the 90s when our great players of spin would unleash a flurry of boundaries on a turner.

Results in the last 5 years prove otherwise. Teams that batted 2nd won more than that of 1st.

Good teams find a way to win matches. Despite all dropped catches, some soft and unlucky dismissals, India managed to draw the last match. Just goes to show how good good they were. I see nothing other than 4-0 to India or at worst 3-0. Gone are those days of Dhoni.

Pujara has really upped his attacking game over the last year or so. Can score very quickly.

Back in 2013 Australia came for a 4-test tour. Won all four tosses, batted first all four games, lost all 4 games. Scoreline 0-4.

Go cry somewhere else.

Far from it right now, looking fairly flat. Everyone's saying they expect it to break up quite a bit over the next few days though.

Is it a turner only if it is turning at all times? It is definitely a turner and even now there is some slow spin.

Pujara pinching strike to face the last over before tea. He is intent on getting the ton before the break.

That was a good session for us,sadly dog disturbed it could had been good had both made centuries.

You know, I was kind of impressed by Visakhapatnam. City looked kind of clean in pictures, wide roads, relatively clean beach on the promenade. Stadium looked good.

But then a stray dog somehow gets on the pitch, and two unfit ground staff struggle to do anything about it. India will be India.

Yeah, where is Zahid87 who was describing the deck pre-match with as much detail as one would describe the qualities of fine wine?

Already described it. Gist of it was Day 1 good for batting, Day 2 onwards will turn. Won't be slow turn like Rajkot either. Pitch will break up. Game could be over by Day 4, depending on how England bat.

Said would be interesting if England win the toss, see how India would cope on such a wicket after the first game.

This is playing like a standard turner so far but turn into rank turner later in the game.

I'm watching here and there not really paying attention. Was a genuine question.

This is a turner?

You can get slow spin at best.

By and large flat.

But then we will only know when good spinners bowl here. But then we may never know cos the pitch is likely to get easier for spin by Day 2.

Moeen Ali is simply flat. No guile at all. Last game, he got 2 wickets due to fluke but he was economical and tight.

Rashid is bowling well. Has been the best spinner in the series so far.

Ansari is a line and length bowler made to look better than what he was in the last game cos India was batting with pressure all the time.

Kohl is looking to rectify that 20 average versus his bogie team....

Commies are saying it's a groundsman dog but that was pathetic

Its ok as long as dog doesn't bite, for the nostalgia atleast dogs should visit the ground once in a while.

Don't compare a 3rd class team with England.Australia will have a chance to win only if they are given 3 innings to bat on, let alone taking advantage of winning toss!

India have the best top 5 in the world. You just don't get any better in terms of technique and temperament. This lineup's going to be better than India's fab four.

Yup I said the same during the first Test sensible-indian-fan

Babar and Haris can potentially compete with these Indian batsmen, but they are well ahead of Azhar, Shafiq, Younis, Misbah and Sarfraz.

Our batsmen are plodders, technically all over the place terrible to watch.

Indian batsmen are so good to watch in comparison. This is what a good cricketing setup with qualified coaches do to you.

Yeah they are very good no doubt but Pujara (outside Asia) and Rahane (when it actually turns properly) are iffy.

Kohli becoming more impactful in Asia has made a lot of difference now.

Chief Destroyer I know pujara just got a ton but is there a case for him batting at 5 and Rahane at 3. I just feel Rahanes too good a player to not be in the top 4.
