England have done well to come out of a tricky situation. Trott and Bell put on a determined stand to arrest a slide. They were vulnerable after the dismissal of Pietersen and India were sensing an opening but it was quickly shut down. The pitch has not posed too many concerns for the batsmen. There is some assistance for the spinners but the slowness has allowed the batsmen to play it comfortably. India were very cheerful as they walked out yesterday. They will be in better spirits only if they bag more wickets early today.

England will resume their innings at 161/3 with a lead of 165 runs. Trott and Bell are on the crease.

All they need to do is bat out Lunch and they're home

But still England have to make good runs so that they can feel comfortable in case batting collapse happens.

Agree but if England go past lunch it's impossible for India to chase 200+ in 2 sessions in this pitch. This is of course the worst case scenario which itself is looking tough for India.

Should be an interesting day, but can't see England losing from here.

I don't want to support the English but through the course of this series I can't bring myself to support the Indians either with all pitch digging and Dhoni's waffles about the umpiring, no UDRS, dodgy tactics in the warm ups so I'm on the fence here :D

personally i do not support England as well. I wanted them to loss from India. But Indian really disappointed.

Dharamsena bowled extremely well for India yesterday.... as predicted before the start of the days's play by yours truly!!!

I am pretty again.. that today Dhamrasena will continue to display his brilliant form. I mean, he got Captain Cook in both innings.... who was in tremendous batting form!

If he can get a couple of wickets in first hours, India will draw the series easily!

^Dont call it a draw yet. Dharmasena's innings may make the difference.

Another umpire of the year award coming up

Spell..... bowling spell.. he'll be opening bowling this morning.

I can understand an umpire getting a caught behind wrong but right arm bowler getting a leftie LBW is easy to judge. If ball does not swing back then it will either be pitching outside leg or missing off. That was a diabolical call in the first inning.

It's a draw. We are done.

Have faith in your two key bowlers.... Dharmasena will exploit the early morning conditions after a good night's rest and healthy breakfast! Then later Tucker will take over. Both bowlers are experts in using their index finger to send batmen back to dressing room.

You probably will have nightmares whenever a ball strucks the pad of a English batsman :sohail I don't even think the English will be as anxious as poor you lol

Lol :asif

Them two are probably after lucrative IPL contracts. Pretty sure at least Dharmasena is.

About what?

Geoffrey first said Ashwin trying to runout Trott was so stupid, had it happened there would be 10 runouts in every test match from here on.

Dravid defended by saying "he spoke to Ashwin yesterday and India was not happy with Trott hitting a four of a dead ball".

Then Geoffrey said its in spirit of the game and that shot is not gonna change the way this test is played. But controversial runout will screw up everything. Then Dravid said the runout is in the spirit of the game as well. Geoffrey said had it happened Dhoni should've called Trott back immediately Dravid said 'then Pujara should've been called back as well'.

Then Geoffrey criticised kohli and his behaviour in the field and said Dhoni should've slapped him down then Dravid brought up Trott's bump catch but Geoffrey said Cook should've slapped him down in the middle, in front of the camera.

I know both of them were stupid but why commies always defend whatever Indian players do? You ll see English commies criticising English players if something goes wrong but Indian commies always defends them even if they know it's definitely wrong. That's why players hardly improve themselves they know they have support from every corner of India.

3 Overs negated. Each over that England bat is massively amazing for the draw.

Thanks for such a long write up! :)

Basically both were being stupid! I did not expect Dravid to behave like that!

defeats are really hurting indians and their big egos and therefore we see dhoni, kholi, ishant and now dravid acting weird. I didn't expect such arrogant behavior from dhoni ever but things change and so do people.

189/3.

One and a half more sessions and this is the series for England!

So England has a lead of 190.... what if they get a lead of 275 by lunch and then declare...... and try to get India out in about 60 or so overs.

There is no way India can score 275 in 60 overs...because.. so far in this test, around 65 or runs have been scored in session - on average!

thats bad field placing by india! dhoni needs to bring closing fielders in!

India has to make all the running. England is doing what India did in 2008 series, after winning chennai test they shut the shop in mohali test. India was happy to play for a draw and take the 2 tests series 1-0, England is doing the same here.

Yesterday at Tea I had said , there is just no way either team can win. The pitch had to break up for a result , it did not.

I know deep inside yourself you trust India to chase 260 in 60 overs and you want England to declare, don't you?

No. I want India to get all out while trying to chase....or better yet, see Sachin try to score another slow 100 and not try to win the match ! :D

TBH right from start I felt India was happy to play for a draw as much as England did. The pitch, defensive field placings and slow RR by India meant they are trying to be safe first than going for the win.

india should know that england playing for draw. they should bring clsoing fielders in. even commentators are saying as well. India already lost. they have to take chance nothing to loss anymore.

Totally agree....

First of all ... as much fuss Dhoni and BCCI made about the Kolkuta pitch and advocated for "rank turner" .... and then they did not prepare one for this match. Why?

England batted very slow in the first innings... India should have tried to score fast.... because there is no difference in 2-1 and 3-1 but there is huge difference in 2-1 and 2-2.

Shastri blasting the spinners for not exploiting the rough spot on the leg side. :))

England should graciously declare for the sake of the game and not rip off the spectators.Do the noble thing chaps.

for sake of game India should not have made these worse pitches! this all your fault. stop blaming England now!

Yup. England in a similar situation against SA in the last test of the previous series went for a win to draw the series but eventually lost the test and the series 2-0. But we were very happy with our intent and the fighting spirit shown by our boys.

India should've shown similar kinda intent. As this partnership is showing, RR almost 3, you could've scored quick if required but Kohli-Dhoni partsnership was hardly 2 an over, even after no wicket for almost a whole day.

May I politely ask, why didn't you do the same in Mohali test for the sake of the same game?

Poms would bat on and on here. No point in declaring , because its useless. Eng will be unable to pick more than a couple of wickets.

yep England is playing beautifully. that's what they need now! just a draw!

Congrats english fans ur team deserves the win:14:.i think india lost the series when they batted poorly in kolkata in the first innings..that really was the turning point.

Wow what stupid mentality by cricket channels in India

T20 "Angrazo ko da saktha hei mu thor javab"

Truly pathetic to say the least

England should slog after the 100 for Trott. Getting to a near unloseable position. Give us 300 from 40 overs and then knock them out? Or go safer?

is this game called celebrate 15th august test match, the way they are doing commentary it sound like all 3 of them have went to a war against, start doing commentary about cricket, be patriotic somewhere else.
