What's new

India vs England | 4th Test | Nagpur | 17/12/12 | Day 5

All over for India now.
Prediction from Indians: 4-0 India
reality: 1-2 England.

Wow!

England should slog after the 100 for Trott. Getting to a near unloseable position. Give us 300 from 40 overs and then knock them out? Or go safer?

Its hard to know what is a safe declaration against India - until Sehwag gets out. First priority is the series win.

is this game called celebrate 15th august test match, the way they are doing commentary it sound like all 3 of them have went to a war against, start doing commentary about cricket, be patriotic somewhere else.

Well it started in the pre show itself.

Wow, Bell is such a minnow basher by that graph they just showed.

Cook for MoS then?

This pitch is hard to score on anyways, so 300 would be rough in 40 overs.

Besides, 300 in 40 is not done often in ODIs, let alone Tests with no fielding restrictions and on the fifth day.

At the same time I don't think it's easy to get 10 wickets in 40 overs. But I'm pretty sure England will declare and let India bat, maybe after a 100 from bell(if he really hang in there)

Can't believe people think england should slog and then declare, england haven't won a major series in asia for well over a decade and haven't won in india for 30+ years they would be insane to give india even the smallest chance.

When you take into account the laughable and disrespectful comments from senior indian men about revenge series and home conditions you would think england are well within their rights to slowly grind india into the dust today.

England should keep batting just to prove the point.. Point being we can bat all day on the 5th day pitch of a match against your spinners.

As I said in the other thread (and got flamed by fools), Cook should bat all day. Cook being the captain who decides how long they bat for. Grind them into their own dust.

i do not think i have ever seen such a steep decline from a #1 position.

I think it's fine if they reach an acceptable target, 300-350 in 40 is nigh on impossible. And it basically is an England win anyways. Maybe 400 in 30. Absolutely impossible, but just enough to possibly nip out several wickets and have India sweating a 3-1 drubbing.

To be honest India look so crestfallen that it might be worth having a little declaration

I really want Tendulkar to fall one more time to Jimmy, a nice round 10 total would be a lovely send off to Tendulkar. Perhaps a golden duck, better Bradman on a final innings.

on cricinfo "Another substitute comes on. Not sure for whom. Okay, it's Jadeja and Tendulkar who are off. who will retire first?"

No DRS has screwed over India more often then not. Broad's hatrick in England, Bell looked out yesterday.

Nick Hoult @NHoultCricket
Hardly any Indian fielders clap Trott's 100. Great knock in circumstances suited to his competitive personality #IndvsEng

Another from Cricinfo

"It's all well and good to make light of it,
but do you know why Sachin is absent?
Can you inform your audience on this?"
Nathan, we haven't a clue why he is off.
All we know is he is off.

Is that how you enjoy the game Sachin? If your legs can't stand for couple of hours then say good bye to the game, will you?

@BumbleCricket It's all very odd. The worst transgression of the game's so-called spirit yesterday came from Kohli!

What did Kohli do yesterday? Sorry I havent been watching.

Great session for us. We've scored 79 runs at 2.54 for no wickets. This is how Kohli and Dhoni should've batted in their partnership.

For all the big talks prior to the start of this series, some of our big players have been utter rubbish (especially Top n Middle Order Batsmen at the same time I am not counting out our ineffective bowlers). MSD's captaincy has seen its day, its about time we (our selectors) start rebuild this team with some much needed changes (needs more bravery, fore-vision and conviction from the people who runs the business of cricket in India).

ATM In Tests Matches - We are far behind Pakistan and Sri Lanka in terms of Bowling attack and Batting form, respectively (assumed it based on the way Sri Lankans have played their Tests in England and 1st test in Australia so far).

England played like champions and they deserve all the accolades that is coming for them on this resounding series victory (like all the professional teams that had done this before in our home turf Eg., SA in 2000, Australia in 2004).

Congrats, English PPers for your team's success :)

Yep, Trott can get a double ton here.

An appeal for caught behind of Ishant to Trott (not out anyway) umpire turned it down. After the over was completed Kohli and Dhoni argued with Dharmasena again Kohli along with Ishant argued with Trott. At the end Trott gave a flying kiss to Ishant.

Thank you and commiserations to Indian fans.

TBH I never expected england to win here but to give good fight every match and trying to draw the series. But England surprised me by dominating India in the last three tests.

I still expect India to win against Aussies in the coming series. But if India doesn't improve from here then things will turn out to be really ugly. Selectors and management need to do something.

As an Indian I think this is the best result India could get for Indian Test cricket to move forward. If we had somehow won the match Dhoni captaincy would be hailed and we would have to wait until we lose to Aus before changing things. Losing 3-1 would have been embarassing and may have led to radical and unnecessary changes (Like dropping Dhoni from Tests all together). Now we will get the changes (Dhoni removed from captaincy, Sehwag or Gambhir replaced by Rahane, Sachin's retirement and end of test careers of Zaheer, Bhajji and Yuvi (Yuvi I am still not sure though).
Only problem I see is last time when a new bunch of players including Laxman, Dravid, Ganguly, Zaheer, Bhajji and Sehwag came, there was Sachin & Kumble who were the experienced guys who could be looked upto in the team. This time I do not see anyone and they all will have make their own mistakes and learn from them. Hopefully this new bunch in a couple of years will start to perform well on the big stage.

Who remembers that remark of Dhoni after the first test when he said had the umpires got all decisions right, the game would have over in 4 days ? :D Dhoni, You will be sacked in the next four days!

Now for my favourite part of any day when England are doing well.......

Switching to the Indian commentary :D

Ravi sounds so depressed lol

Lols, I generally switch over to Indian channel for lthe unch time analysis and Boycs was on fire there. Panning Dhoni left, right and center. :boycott

Should declare on Bell's hundred, 300 to get off 40 overs

Naah! Just let them bat on and on! May be a Root 50 ? :boycott Even if India do score something like 150 for 1 or 2 wickets, that would slightly sour the day for the bowlers!

Or our bowlers can pad their stats

I switched to their commentary for 20 minutes and had enough, they were sending me to sleep. The Sky commentators are the best by far.

Sidhu is such a sour loser :))

Loved his banter with Ramiz last evening, the latter was about to tell him to stop crying :))

I would like to see Bell getting his hundred quick and Trott nearing his 150. When Trott get his 150, Bell nearing 150 and when Bell get 150 Trott nearing double and so on. Not for the records but to let India field the whole day.

Great knock for Bell who is often accused of not performing in crunch situations.

We will see who wins ODI.

Tests are for old people only and very boring.

The first 3 tests were good, the 4th test has been boring because they designed a dead pitch to stop England from taking a 3-1 lead.. Also, will the ODI's be boring if you lose them aswell?

oh god stop this already!!umpires should just ask the two captains and call of the match...prety sure everyone has given up now!

Colly seeems genuinely happy for the team. He is one amongst them after all! :nasser

If Bell go on to make his hundred it'll be a complete performance from England.

Cook 3 hundreds, Kp 1 hundred n 2 fifties, Trott 1 hundred n 1 fifty, Bell a hundred, Compton 1 fifty but 2 hundred n 3 fifty partnerships, Root a fighting fifty, Prior 2 fifties.

Swann 20 wickets, Panesar 17 wickets, Jimmy 12 wickets.

Almost everybody contributed to our victory, except Fatel.
