England vs India | 1st Test | Edgbaston | Aug 1-5, 2018 | Day 3 Thread

I made a thread where I said 200 % england would collapse. The moment Kohli got that 100, England knew they had lost the match

How much does Ishant Sharma average against England? Destroys them once a tour :))

Sharma is a difficult customer to deal with when he's on song. Excellent bowling.

Stokes and Bairstow wickets before lunch has brought england on backfoot.

Ishant has been a great bowler for a last 2-3 years. Wins us a game almost every series.

Brilliant (possibly matchwinning) session from India, England in bits.

England needs 30 more runs to seal the game. Ball is swinging, seaming and spinning. Don't think india is gonna get past 100 here in their fourth innings.

This is some high class bowling from Ishant. Has looked like a different bowler ever since he started bowling fuller.

4th innings pressure. Also, they have a good bowling line up. It is no way going to be an easy job for India. Indian batting is nervy as well.

Sharma ji with his customary one demolition job vs England per series.

English batting reminds of Pakistan's in the 2000s. Mediocre top order that puts pressure on a talented middle order who when they fail, the team generally fails.

Game firmly in India's grasp, but England have long batting lineup. If they eek out a lead of 200 then anything can happen.

200 wud be winning score at this swinging and seeming pitch against english bowlers.170 is manageable.

This WK kartik is a pure joke. Why is he even in the team.

It's high time India takes a bold move and brings back Dhoni in tests. Even with one hand tied on his back he's a better keeper than kartik as well as a better batsman.

I wud be surprised if Rishabh Pant doesn't make his debut in the next match. And Karthik perhaps has squandered away his world cup place as well. Atleast he was able to fool ppl arnd by scoring runs against Bdesh in T20s, now with this test his limited skills have been exposed.

I dunno why but Adil Rashid could do heavy damage with his batting I feel.

Have you seen them bat today? 100 is a stretch atm

Win or loss you cannot possibly say India is a bad touring side. Look how SA played in India and SL.

Ishant has improved dramatically in last few years. Not a long time ago he was fighting hard with Sami for the worst test bowler ever with highest average with the ball. But now he is averaging a respectable 35 with the ball.Amazing turnaround i have ever seen by a bowler.

Probably the best touring side in the last 3 years. India has been competitive everywhere, and at times lost matches they should have won.

Compare this to every other side getting whitewashed outside their comfort zone.

More than Indian reaction, i want to hear Australian reaction on social media :) Has any Australian cricketer been following it?

Aussies would be worried too as we are touring them few months later. Sadly for aussies no steve smith to save their ***. :shh

Credit to harbhajan in commentary box..yesterday when ind batting as soon as he said pitch is looking like a batting paradise clouds came-in nd collapse happened..now as soon as he said he is disappointed with Ishant after his years of experience Bairstow nd stokes made the way out..hope he keeps on criticizing our indian team throughout the series 😂😂😂

cricketjoshila Sir. What did I tell you before the first test? Ishant is leading from the front now and using his experience of bowling in counties here. :inti

Ishant Sharma has been a revelation after the load (his hair) has been lifted off his shoulders.

Both Curran and Rashid have county 100s. They can take lead to 300

India's bench strength in bowling seems like an upgrade over a lot of international attacks. :amir:

Wow Ishant Sharma is reminding Javagal Srinath on charge! If only he can maintain this intensity consistently in all the matches (I think he should have been coached & guided properly! He could have been a good asset. Has been playing for a long time with lots of experience!)

Had India batted first, it would have given them great advantage. First innings was much easy conditions.

Man, if we lose it from here it'll be like South Africa all over again.

Is this the first time in history that a test batsman is being played at number 7 is a specialist. Do not understand the logic behind it. Just play butler as a keeper and let YJB play as a batsman. Looks like engalnds test thank has lost the plot in test cricket recently. While the odi team has surged, test team has lost that class with the departure of Trott, KP and Bell

Yup, Day 1 was by far the best for batting. It took an incredible Kohli effort to match their score.

Difficult to tell just how nasty these conditions are.

Even 130 might be competitive, who knows.

Curran and Rashid can bat well....they should keep calm and wait for Yadav and Pandya to bowl.

You sure? Bcoz as per Junaids...this is a flat track due to heat wave and that is why Kohli could scored a century here. :uakmal

This Test has provided much needed relief for Kohli(bad record in England) Ashwin (bad record in SENA) and now for Ishant (bad record everywhere) India clear favs for the win and well deserved it'd be. Change of captain has improved their overseas show already

Is the pitch flat or are conditions really that tough. I cant think India will lose again like they did against SA. I am sure they must have learnt from their mistake.

Agreed but anything under 125 and India will be huge favorites and anything over 170, england LL be huge favorites. It's a 150ish chase that ll make it very interesting

It is new technology that bcci has invented and only junaids has inside info. Moment kohli walks to bat the track transforms itself . It's a secret prototype under test

English conditions are impossible to predict, yesterday Ishant himself was middling the ball against the pacers and now he's moving it miles :O

Lost Bhuvi and Bumrah before the match, lost a big toss....yet Indians have held their own so far. Irrespective of the result, this has been a truly great performance by Kohli's team.

What if Curran and co take England to 300? :))

I think that (whoever wins) it will be one of those really tight finishes, like a win by 1-2 wickets or by less than 10 runs.

Been a pleasure to enjoy this fast-paced modern classic Test match alongside our Indian friends.

Batting has been a struggle after the opening day. Even a 150 chase won't be easy here, 200 runs, and England are favorites.

Sam Curran has been very impressive so far. Decent bat and a good swing bowler.
Good prospect for England

Why does Curran bat all the way down at #8?

Eng can win this. It will be very hard for Indians to chase. Eng needs to add few runs here.

If similar conditions prevail, I expect Kohli to cut a lone, sorry figure at one end while Anderson and Broad destroy India's batting line-up

This is confusing. Is the pitch easy to bat or are India bowling badly. I honesly cant understand how the top order crumbled if pitch that easy.

Lead by 138.

We'll be 138/6 during our chase.

Need to close this out quickly.

If you watch the match instead of following it on Cricinfo, you will see that this is edges flying away for boundary. Very normal for this pitch.

Indian need to get these last 3 wickets quickly. Pitch is not good for batting, and these people are getting edges away

It looks like Dhawan just dropped the match with the drop at slip, he is a dead weight who should be removed before we lose more crucial games

Most useless Test player outside Asia. Keeps edging them to slip and drop dollies at slip.

I know I'm biased, but if this joker behind the wicket plays another game for India, then the selectors should be sacked. How the hell did Kartik even get into contention? He's been garbage for a decade or more, a joke keeper and batsman, but somehow gets selected over Pant?
