India beat West Indies by 237 runs in the 3rd Test

Its good to have 5 bowlers but there is no use putting someone higher in the batting order if they aren't good enough. But tbf Ashwin is doing well so let's see how he goes against other teams.

I saw him bat in Aus closely. To be honest, he batted better than some of the specialist Indian test batsmen. I read somewhere in PP that he used to play as an opener so no wonder he looked comfortable against pace bowlers in Aus. My opinion about him was purely based on how he was batting in Aus.

Yes Ashwin was indeed an opener. He looks good tbf. Think he can definitelydo a job at 7. Number 6 seems a little high.

The thing is Ashwin is at no.6 in this line up, because the the keeper batsman is not good enough to bat at 6. Since he is better than the Keeper Batsman, he bats higher than him. If (and a really big If) India could unearth a keeper batsman who is a better bat, then Ashwin comes in at 7, and the batting looks much more solid. Add Vijay and Pujara to the mix, and I reckon India's batting and tail gets as strong as England's

The thing with Ashwin is he bats reasonably well and feels more confident when batting with specialist batsmen rather than with the tailenders. This is the more effective batting line-up for 5-bowlers strategy.

I think Saha did a great job and can be finally rated a finer test batsman than dhoni. He has a problem with power and timing but he is gritty as hell.

TBH i think Rahane has to cop quite a bit of blame for going into such a shell in the second session. Being careful is something, this was something else altogether. Thing about going ultra slow is that you will allow to do what they please, and you will get out, and since you didn't score anything...you will end up worse than before.

Rahane went into a bit of a shell yesterday. And played a poor shot as well, miscalculated the flight of the ball and ended up getting castled. It was a good move to promote Ashwin ahead of Saha as it seems to have made the latter value his wicket more and seems to be fighting it out. He is a gritty batsman but needs to become more reliable and consistent.

Only day 1 of the match but looks like W.I have already blown a huge chance of trying to get into a real strong position in the game and with W.I weak batting their chances of winning the game could already be gone after a day.

I hope the team management has spoken and explained to Vijay his non-selection. His only fault seems to have been getting injured. Cant fathom Rohit 'can-change-a-test-in-a-session' Sharma over Vijay and Pujara.

It did look like there was an explicit message from Kohli in the post-tea session to up the rate a bit. I hope this continues in the morning session today as well. In the usual case the team management would take it easy when someone neared a milestone (Ashwin's in this case). But I really feel that India should look to get atleast 120 in the morning session if at all possible. I am not too certain that blocking for time when there is not enough pedigree would help india's case. Rather, go for quick runs whatever possible, attempt to bowl the Windies out as soon as possible and get started on your 2nd innings when the pitch is still pretty good for batting ... i.e. - sometime on the hopefully earlier half of the 3rd day.

Unless the bowlers have learnt something from the Jamaica 5th day, and have planned for it, I don't know if the WI batting unit is going to still be that easy of a knockover.

So we ended up dropping Che for Tailunt and ended up playing just like Che does...

Someone needs to get it across to Kohli that all Sharmas end up in a heartbreak

Hopefully Che will regain his spot in next test....he is the best number 3 we have in the country

Not just Che, we dropped Vijay also.

And also Captain Virat has realised that the number 3 slot is not his cup of tea, he is better off at 4 like Pieterson and leave 3 to Che.

Rohit has been given enough chances, its time he is dropped for atleast 2 years,we need to try other talents and Rahul defn has come good so our domestic bats aren't as worse as Rohit for sure.

Don't we have a single decent left handed batsman in domestic?

.

Saha is fantastic. He had to suffer on the sidelines for years, thanks to Dhoni.

I am really happy that he is finally getting a chance to show what he is worth.

Dhoni averaged close to 50 in Asia and about 30 outside. Saha has a long way to go before he can be called a better batsmen than Dhoni.

Saha has more grit.

He may not be a Dhoni level batsman but he has WAY more fight in him.

His gritty knocks in SL, SA and WI series won't look good on stats but they are very impactful.

M Vijay, who has the best average among all of India's batsmen since India's tour of England tour since 2014 was left out, despite recovering from a thumb injury.

Yep. Him and Rahul to open. And there was no need to drop Pujara for tailunted either. Kohli going for his mates over actual performers

He's our BJ Watling. Not very talented either but always ready to scrap it out.

Ashwin may pop the ball soon if he doesn't adjust.

Pitch holding up a touch and he is early to his shots.

Actually going by that list, tailunted is as good a batsman as Jadeja,Mishra,Binny and Shami only. Bhuvi and Ashwin are better than him as batsmen alone. Most undeserving cricketer in our squad and i thought Binny was the worst :O

I would rather have Mishra in the team as he at least adds value with the ball. Tailut doesn't add any value to the team. He has scored probably couple of fifties here and there (I think he did okay in the SL series). After the home series against WI, he has basically traveled to all the countries with the team and did nothing. He still finds place in the team replacing our best test batsman (in terms of average) over the last 2 years.

People calling Saha a finer test batsman than Dhoni already! Remind me when he plays an inning (double tone) like Dhoni played against the Aussies in Chennai or even like the one he played at Lords' where the last day was washed out and we salvaged a draw after being 9 down.

Dhoni in the later years may have lacked application but to apply that to his whole career is a joke.

I'll chose talent over grit. He isn't one who can make a century.

It's better to invest on a talented player who is failing than a player like saha who is just mediocre.

Lets see Rohit Sharma can Keep ? Kohli can keep his keep in the team.

I will choose talent over grit too.

But not talent without a spine and with technical deficiencies.

Its a balancing act.

Yeah but we already play 5 bowlers don't we? I mean it's either Jaddu or Mishra. It's unfortunate that we select tailunted in the test squad when some of our bowler s average the same or higher . Granted Pujara is not in the best of form but he s still been better than this hack.

Mumbai lobby at work perhaps?

sensible-indian-fan why u worried mate ? Cummins got one to stay low and the other to take a nasty lift in consecutive balls

Cos barring the balls that is behaving different...the ball is not seaming around...track has gone slower...

That uneven bounce may or may not be in the good length area where spinners can exploit....

If the track becomes like the last game track, we may huff and puff to take 20 wickets....

Roston on.

Let's see what the pitch holds for him.

If the uneven bounce is in good length area, it would be lethal for bowlers.

Or else would just result in oohhs and aahhs from pacerss but not much in terms of results.

Looks like they might go for a change in ball, balls not going throughthe rings

300 up. Good effort by Ash and Saha sensible-indian-fan :D

Ash is the best cricketer in our team.

Kohli might as well play 6 bowlers instead of Sharma...

Or Kohli needs to run himself out whilst playing with Sharma, that's the only way Tailunt becomes a Beast

Well played these two with protecting their wickets.

Ashwin played a bit too slow imo. Saha seems a limited player, esp when it comes to attacking the opposition, and I surely hope that he improves his technique AND repertoire. Still havent forgotten his ugliest of the ugly hoick and getting stumped in the nail biting test down under.

why u worried mate ?

Answering the question yourself? :uakmal

Lunch is over, but sky sports coverage is dead, techinical difficulties.

At this rate, Rohit might need to bat below Ashwin and Saha and if Jaddu and BK hit a 50, then they might get a promotion too:ibutt

Saha 100. Need to open a Saha vs Sarfaraz thread. We know what will happen then.

I am happy to eat humble pie.

Well played Saha.

One thing I'll give him is he values his wicket. He fights it out and doesn't throw it away.

Well played Saha.

Now pls raise your gen game from being ultra archaic to some modern day test level.
