The first game of the five-match ODI series between Pakistan and New Zealand went very much according to the script as far as conditions in Rawalpindi go. On a slow surface that gripped and spun, New Zealand posted a decent total but with batting getting easier under lights, Pakistan were able to chase it down rather comfortably. Teams return to the venue once again for the second game of the series and the plans shouldn't be any different for either side with toss expected to play a crucial role once again.

The common trend for both teams in the first ODI was the middle-order wobble that they experienced. New Zealand in particular were eyeing a total in excess of 300 at one stage but could only muster 288 in the face of some quality death bowling from Pakistan. The visitors will hope that their middle-order can put up a better show this time around. As will Pakistan, whose top-order did the bulk of the job in the run chase before a mini-collapse stretched the chase a bit although the result was never in doubt.

Both teams have a lot of inexperience in the middle order due to different reasons and with the World Cup around the corner, they will be hoping to crack the code sooner than later in terms of the team combination. Bowling-wise, both teams were on the money although New Zealand would argue that Pakistan got better conditions to bowl on. Batting under lights certainly is easier in Rawalpindi with the dew also setting in.

Hopefully Pakistan bat first

Let’s have a free hit at Pindi

How about get rid of Shan Masood/ Shadab and Shaheen Afridi completely and give chances to Abdullah Shafiq
/Usama Mir/Ihsanullah It is so frustrating to see same crap of trying to win series with seniors and then giving chances to New comers with 1 game remaining that is if NZL dont make a comback and surprises you.

My Team

Pacer Ihsanullah is making ODI debut today - Shaheen Afridi gave the ODI cap to Ihsanullah earlier

Who’s sitting out?

I doubt it’s Shaheen (it should be him though)

Looks like Ihsanullah is slightly shorter than Shaheen despite having a higher release point of the ball.

Pakistan have won the toss and have opted to field

In:

Abdullah Shafiq, Usama Mir and Ihsanullah

Out:

Shadab Khan, Shan Masood and Shaheen Shah Afridi

Much better team than the one we played last game. Shadab and Shaheen are out of form so we can afford to rest them and play some newer players.

It will be interesting to see if Abdullah can adapt to his new spot in the middle order.

Total Shock….I should have asked something else. I predicted this players to play and they have been selected.

Ifti with agha wud be have been perfect this is only for subcontinent pitches although our tails looks too long

Looks like someone from team management must have read your post :)) all 3 changes bang on

someone must be drunk in pcb for all these bang on needed changes... + agha swapped with chacha... esp when chacha is red hot

Can't believe that underperforming players (Shadab, Shaheen) have been dropped in place of a genuine spinner and an upcoming bowler. Is this Pakistan?

Regarding Shan, I'm clearly not a fan of him and I don't think he has a future in the Pakistan team. However, I'm appalled at the process in place. You give him one match after 10 matches and expect him to perform. When he fails in one match, you drop him. This is not how you develop players. This goes for any player. If you've selected Abdullah Shafique, then give him the whole series irrespective of failures. Only after 10 or so continuous games should you decide whether to stick with the player or not.

This was Shan’s match to score an 80 ball ton!

Pakistan will regret this decision!!

What a team selection... 100 % marks...

I think shaheen is injured otherwise Rauf should dropped instead of Shaheen

Guys what is a Parchi?

A small piece of paper

*it has connotations of a person with power and authority slipping a small piece of paper into a captain or a person of authority (lesser than the one passing the paper) with a person’s name on it who should be given preferential treatment.

Excellent changes - Hope we have a good show today. But remember Ihsan should not be judged on Pindi pitch, in case he has an average debut.

Ihsanullah got pace but doesn’t move the ball a mm

He was mostly bowling mid 130s in that over with 2nd ball being 128kph. Is that being considered pace now a days? Bcoz we are from a generation who grew up watching Akhtar and Lee, that was pace for us.

Ihsanullah slowly building his pace - not quick at the moment

Naseem Shah blossoming into a decent ODI bowler

Mostly? Speed was only shown for 2 balls that over.

Next over he hit 149k. Not sure what your point here is. He has hit 150km in internationals more times already than entire indian pace bowlers combined probably :)

Haris can be a good new ball bowler too with better control . Gets the ball to shape away just enough at good pace

Naseems been so probing. Just feel wicket is around the corner if batsman tries to create an opportunity. No wonder they’ve been so cautious

Iftikhar Ahmed replaces Haris Sohail in ODI squad

Islamabad, 29 April 2023:

Iftikhar Ahmed will replace Haris Sohail in Pakistan’s One-Day International squad for the last three matches against New Zealand
in Karachi. Iftikhar will join the side in Karachi.

The replacement comes in the wake of a shoulder injury to Haris that he sustained on the eve of the first ODI. The middle-order batter landed awkwardly during a fielding drill that injured his left shoulder.

Pakistan team will fly to Karachi on Sunday.

Harris is very unlikely... nth time he unfits after comeback

I hope Ihsanullah gets more opportunity in the series, would like to see him in Karachi too and under lights.

This is such a flat pitch. Naseem has to be amongst the top 3 odi bowlers around to be bowling like that on this pancake

Bowled too full

Just bowled the right length and he got out.

Pakistan very flat in the field.

Need some inspiration.

How does he if he can bat which i have heard he has improved he is better than shadab for sure
