why are our batsmen not trained or coached properly. I mean Butt should be farming the strike with the last three and trying to score as many runs as possible. It is why Hussey is so dangerous.

Second ball of the over and the strike is given to Gul, who is a sitting duck at the moment.

I am not saying that he has not played well, he has done brilliantly.
But it is these small things that count in test cricket.

People in USA should look at the bright side of pakistan collapsing. they won't have to wake up at 5 am till the next match.
 
At least Afridi was right about one thing: you can't make a great test team out of average players.
 
I guess Australia don't really need to score more than 200 runs per innings.

Well lets face it, we did predict this so no real harm done.
 
:)) Butt wanting to carry the bat at Lords or Gul wanting to be a little too heroic?

position 3 and 4 are the most important positions, its like your center backs in football, we just dont have any quality in them
 
GOTTA LOVE TEST MATCH CRICKET....... u love a dot ball from a tail ender almost as much as u love afridi going crazy....... intriguing stuff to say the least!!

Kamran got a jaffa which he misjudged, Umar got out playing the way he does, you take those with his brilliant innings, and Afridi is Afridi. What were you expecting?

They won't have made many 600s in England, but on the subcontinent certainly. But this batting lineup will be hard pressed to make 300 on the subcontinent.
 
Gul Showing some good technique here... Go Gul !!

hang in there till lunch tommorow, take the singles whenever on offer, rescue this match for us... thats all thats required

i am pretty sure he will play with more responsibility in next inning. What i think he was bit nervous and went for one too many shots. He has been playing with more responsibility in his previous few ODI's inning and he can be more then handy with bat in test matches(showed us what he can do with the bat in 10 minutes).

so basically what you're trying to say is that we suck in tests and have the perfect batting line-up for t20's and occasionally for odi's????

No one would've blamed Afridi for getting out playing defensively. At least that would've meant he is trying to practice what he's been preaching, i.e. change your thinking from T20 to test mode. Isn't that what he's been telling all his players in the past couple of weeks? What did he do today? Why doesn't it apply to him? C'mon, you've gota call a spade a spade.

I have a feeling all that bashing Ponting did about Afridi before the match did get to him. He thought "I'll show you!" in pure pathan thinking, and paid the price. How is he going to tell his batsmen to show patience and play responsibly after this innings from him??
 
no doubt butt is good, but gul is doing what he should be doing

What was Afridi thinking of playing T20 in Test? He was in form after the Asia Cup performance, and should have played sensible cricket. Salman Butt desperately need partner.
 
On another note, I think Afridi should open with Butt in future test matches!!!!
 
whats wrong with the two phathans in our team today..one thought it was t20, the other thinks he should be protecting salman butt......

Afridi's innings was perfectly fine for a number 7 batsman in a situation where we did not have two debutants and a solid #3 and #4 playing in the team. you can't rely on Afridi to bat a whole day. He will give you quick runs but other batsmen need to step up. Everyone knows this is how Afridi plays. I will always support someone playing positively and had he stayed on to score another 20-30 runs, we would have been applauding his effort where everyone else failed.

If Shahid Khan Afridi continue to get carried away like this, then expect Salman Butt to lead the team or wait for Younus Khan to lead the team then.
 
So easy for Australia at the moment. Gul gifts away his wicket to slip.

True that especially when you have Farhat as the other opener, two debutants, the rockstar trio (Umar Akmal, Kamran, and Afridi), then the tail.

I think you have gotten it absolutely right.

That's why he was rightly dropped from the Test four years ago. If he continues to do like this, i am afraid PCB will make dramatic change all of the sudden.
 
Butt needs to go into T20 mode and score 20-30 useful runs. The rest of the tail is pathetic. Danish and Asif - the worse 10 and 11 combination ever!
 
Should Butt do a Hussey and bat sensibly and smartly by giving strike to the tailenders for the last one/two balls or just go hell for leather and try to hit out?

I think he should just hit out.. no other option, our tailenders CANNOT bat.
 
Man, it's disheartening to support the Pakistan team. Time after time - let down after let down. Oh well, time to get some sleep and put an end to this depressing sight :)

You have to build the partnership somehow. Butt is trying to pull 'Hussey version'
