Glad that QG retained Saud Shakeel. Now Sarfaraz please let this guy perform and also give him an extended run as he is the future of our cricket.

Rilee Rossouw, Jason Roy, and Hasaranga are the players who can light up the tournament for Quetta in PSL 9.

It's a weak squad. There's no way this team is qualifying for the next round.

Very good squad but they have a specialist captain playing who is most probably their worst player.

At some point, he either won’t play or will not bat in top 7

They have Shane Watson as head coach. He won’t tolerate nonsense

Khwaja Nafay
Jason Roy (os)

Omair bin Yousuf
Waindu Hasaranga (os)
Sherfane Rutherford (os)
Sajjad Ali (wk)
Wasim Jr
Sohail Khan
Mohammad Amir
Abrar Ahmad
Adil Naz

How is this not a strong XI?

It's a strong 11 as they are playing 12 players.

No chance they will drop him even if he scores ducks for fun.

Adil Naz and Sohail Khan were making the new ball swing miles in the national T20 cup

Mohammad Amir is still the best if not one of the best white ball fast bowlers in Pakistan

Wasim Jr is the best in-swing pace bowler in Pakistan at 140+

That’s a very good pace attack

On a rank turner, if Hasaranga, Abrar and Qadir play…

The drama of Abrar being a good spinner will be over after this Psl.
Bro he isn’t a bad bowler. He played some games last season and bowled in the powerplay. He can bowl. Just needs a proper run in the side

maybe they can also open with Saud and let him bat through for them.

I really think he can become Pakistan’s Conway. He’s a class player!

Agreed. I believe his best position will be opening. Even in odis I would have have opening instead of Imam.

Players haven't faced him much. Once they get used to him, I don't think he will be good. I hope he proves me wrong, but I don't think he has the skills. He's also a poor fielder and a no 11 bat.

Hasaranga will play first 5 matches for QG, then Akiel Hossein will take over.

IMO…QG need to do whatever they can to win those 5 games with him in the side. He is easily the best All-rounder/match winner in this PSL

The batting seems very dependent on Rossouw & Roy.

Bowling attack could be interesting with guys like Hasnain/Wasim Jr/Abrar & Amir. Overall it has some potential and it'll be hard to do worse than last season.

Easy win for Quetta this year mark my words

Looks like Sarfraz was given full creative control with the squad and he has selected the best options possible.

With his leadership and guys like Amir, Omair and Abrar as his lieutenants, a trophy is the bare minimum

Possible XI

Jason Roy
Khawaja Nafay
Rilee Rossouw
Sarfaraz Ahmed
Omair Bin Yousuf
S Rutherford
W Hasaranga
Muhammad Wasim Jr
Mohammad Amir
Mohammad Hasnain
Abrar Ahmed

Should be another trophy on that large cabinet of Saifi Bhai’s.

Got a destructive squad filled with the raw inexperience which can be destructive when given to the brilliant hands of kaptaan

PSL Nine Supplementary and Replacement Players announced

Quetta Gladiator’s Bismillah Khan will replace Wanindu Hasaranga after Sri Lanka's Hasaranga will leave the squad during the tournament owing to his international commitments.

Quetta Gladiators, with the last pick of the round three, drafted English batter Laurie Evans, who previously appeared in his solitary HBL PSL season for Multan Sultans in the 2019 edition.

Quetta Gladiators reserved their pick in the fourth round. The fourth pick of the round saw Peshawar Zalmi drafting in left-arm wrist spinner, Sufiyan Muqeem, who was part of the same team in the last HBL PSL season. With the fifth pick in this round, Lahore Qalandars picked up Tayyab Abbas, a product of their player development program. Karachi Kings drafted 21-year-old Mohammad Rohid as part of their squad.

Surprize to see Bismillah Khan got selected again with his terrible stats

Quetta should have been given chance to any other deserving player

Looking forward to seeing Nafy and Omair bin yousuf light up this years PSL with a massive carrot of potential selection for the T20 WC to come.

It would be great if we can get a few quality spinners in this years PSL to boost up the national side.

Omair is okay Nafy looks exciting.

Sarfaraz Ahmed talked to the media in Karachi, where he asserted that Amir will prove to be a great player for Quetta, as he has in the past for Karachi Kings:

"In the last two years, wherever Amir has played cricket, his team has performed well."

"Amir and Sohail Khan are experts in both bowling new and old balls. We are hopeful that Amir will prove to be profitable for Quetta Gladiators."

Quetta Gladiators have decided to remove Sarfaraz Ahmed as captain ahead of the PSL-9, owner Nadeem Omer confirmed to Local Pakistani News Channel:

"Sarfaraz wants to take a break from captaincy with new head coach Shane Watson set to decide who will lead the side after consulting with the team management."

Great news for Quetta, maybe they will finally win something and their players will actually enjoy playing for them this year.

Sarfraz wanted to step down? This is weird given it is the first time I think Quetta have had a strong squad. Even when they won I don’t think it was that strong on paper. See what Sarfraz can actually do with a good team. Whether the poor performance in recent years was down to the poor squad or captaincy, we’d know the answer. I suspect it was the former.

A select bunch of people won't be able to sleep for a few days I guess.

Quetta truly Gladiators of PSL

The Pakistan Super League (PSL), initiated in 2016, stands as a vibrant testament to the cricketing prowess of the nation, showcasing a bouquet of six franchises that passionately compete for honour and glory on the T20 stage.

These franchises symbolise the flourishing of cricket in Pakistan, acting as catalysts for unearthing talent and providing a pathway for players to ascend to the national team.

Quetta Gladiators is a team that has consistently embodied the values of honour, dignity and commitment. Owned by the cricket-loving and successful businessman Nadeem Omar, the franchise faced the challenge of establishing an identity for Quetta, particularly in the province of Balochistan.

Nadeem Omar's commitment to the cause was evident from the outset. His strategic moves included bringing on-board the legendary Sir Viv Richards as the mentor, the dependable Moin Khan as the head coach, and the accomplished Sarfaraz Ahmed as the captain. These decisions paid off handsomely in the initial four years, culminating in the franchise's maiden title in 2019.

As the franchise enters its ninth year, it has not only built a positive image of Quetta and Balochistan but has also made significant strides in tapping into local talent. Nadeem Omar acknowledges this, emphasising how Quetta Gladiators have eradicated negativity towards Balochistan and become an identity for the province. Initiatives such as the Inter-School tournament, Ramadan cricket, and even a successful women’s tournament have contributed to reshaping perceptions.

“The biggest positivity about Quetta Gladiators is that we created the soft image of Quetta and Balochistan,” Nadeem sums up the achievements of his franchise.

“The way the team played eradicated the negativity as we introduced Inter-School cricket in the province, held Ramadan cricket and energised players and fans in equal terms. The biggest thing was that we held a women's tournament with success in an environment where women might not have gotten the same chance.

“There were apprehensions over conducting such an event in Balochistan but Quetta Gladiators became an identity of the province. The message to the world as a whole and to the people of Pakistan in particular is that Quetta is a place where people can come and stage events. The sweetest and the most unforgettable moment for me is the welcome the people of Balochistan accorded us when we took a trophy tour of the province in 2019.”

Gladiators can proudly mention players like Bismillah Khan, Abdul Nasir, Abdul Wahid Bangalzai, Mohammad Asghar, Haseebullah and Jalat Khan who were picked in Quetta Gladiators. The extreme weather conditions in Quetta pose a challenge to hold trials, camps and matches, but Nadeem remains confident that the efforts from Quetta Gladiators will yield more fruitful results in the years to come.

The franchise is also credited for shaping the careers of players like Mohammad Hasnain, Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Azam Khan and others. Rilee Rossouw became a brand at Gladiators while Nadeem Omar highlights the success stories, with Sarfaraz Ahmed becoming a captain, Mohammad Nawaz flourishing due to trust, and the introduction of players like Mir Hamza and Usman Khan.

Despite facing challenges in the last four years, Nadeem is satisfied with the progress of Quetta Gladiators. The biggest reward, he says, is the love and affection from the people of Balochistan, who take pride in the team. As Quetta Gladiators continue to strive for success, they stand not only as a franchise but also as a beacon of light for local cricketers, promising further harnessing of talent in the cricketing landscape of Pakistan.

Former West Indies batting great and mentor of Quetta Gladiators, Sir Vivian Richards said while speaking to local media:

"Well to be fair, I am very pleased and excited when I saw most of the players here, everyone knows here I’m a big fan of Saf [Sarfaraz Ahmed]. But Saf, I am sure he is on a lot of pressure in my opinion looking after the Quetta Gladiators team, looking after them to have success. But how he is here now in a capacity, where there is a new captain, I believe it would work well for Saf. When I say it will work well for him, he is now relaxed, there is not much pressure on him, and the only thing I said to him that now it's your time to show what Saf is all about, and I believe if things work well and InshaAllah that Saf could have a good tournament."

"This is great to have him[Mohammad Amir], these are the individuals that I have admired over the years before he was with Karachi now having with us I am very very excited he is an individual I have a lot of respect for him, he is sort of an individual of classy inclusion for Quetta. I don’t know if Amir will have pace similar to Naseem Shah, but we are happy that an experienced player is part of the side."

"Quetta has not been able to do well over the past few years, which is why the changes could be good for the side. I think we have formed a good team for PSL 9."

SO amir also needed to be rested. Workload Management? I don't think after seeing the performance of Sohail Khan, Quetta will take the risk again to rest Amir.

--------------------------------

Rossouw stated Amir's absence is due to rest, considering his recent busy schedule.

"We have rested Amir since he has been playing a lot of cricket lately," he said.

Somehow stretch out this batting order…

Hossien coming in at 7 is risky business. One more wicket and you are into the tail. Wasim Jr gives no confidence as a bowling all rounder

Maybe they have to drop a spinner, or one of their spinners needs to be sent up the order as a pinch hitter

Guys like Agha and Tayyab have featured in PSL and are doing well.

Omair Bin Yousuf is a better talent+T20 batter than both of these two

Not really.

Nafay should keep and bat 6/7

They need to draft in Omair bin Yousuf. He is a very good player
So play the youngsters out of order and still expect them to score big.

Ideally Nafay should open but this pair of Roy+Saud is working pretty well. Saud is going at 160 so far in this tournament.

If he can’t open, I wouldn’t send him at 3-4-5 either. These are key batting positions. So might as well utilised him at the end and give him a free licence.l

I don’t know how else to make this work for him

Maybe they think he is a key player so he should bat at key position.

Watson, Russouw, Roy etc are a good leadership group…they know how to give confidence to youngsters. That’s how SENA countries build their cricket in general, it runs deep down into grass roots level.

Personally, I’m not in favour of him batting at 3. He should definitely be in the starting XI regardless

The way I see it is youngsters should bat in thier normal positions the overseas should bat were thier is gap as they have more depth in terms of knowledge and seen various bowling attacks.

News gets worse.

As per a new report:

Quetta Gladiators’ Sherfane Rutherford has left the squad ahead of the remaining Pakistan Super League (PSL) season nine matches.

According to sources, the Windies batter Rutherford has returned back home due to family issues. He also didn't feature in Quetta's match yesterday against Peshawar Zalmi.

If Quetta qualify for the playoffs of PSL 9, Rutherford could join the squad again.

With the likes of Jason Roy, Saud Shakeel, and Rilee Rossouw there is no surprise why Quetta Gladiators are on top of this chart.

Quetta Gladiators have received a significant boost ahead of their Pakistan Super League (PSL) season nine playoffs clash against Islamabad United.

Star middle-order batsman Sherfane Rutherford, who had left the squad on March 9 due to personal reasons, will rejoin the team on Wednesday. Rutherford's absence in the last three matches, including a crucial encounter, was felt by the Gladiators. His return is welcomed news for captain Rilee Russouw, who aims to lead the team to their second PSL title.

They need to drop Nafay for Umar Amin
